Yes, I'm going again, and yes, I'm lame. But, the Amazing Randi will be there in a Skeptic's track, and the opportunity to glimpse the lovely Hayden Panettiere will all be worth it. Especially since my hotel is being paid for by Marriott Rewards points. But there is no price for my shame.

It may be worth it to see Randi. He ain't getting any younger.

A friend (Misfit) told me Ami Dolenz is going to be there. How much are tickets again?

Ami Dolenz. In Atlanta. It's a Miracle (Beach).

I still have never been but this year may be the year. The guest list is impressive (in a totally geeky way of course) once again and I'd love to see these people:

Robert Englund, Adam Baldwin and Brad Dourif is quite the trio

Edit - Oh crap, now I must go. I must get James Hong to sign my BTILC poster.

Yep, Ami Dolenz. Believe it. And Sulu and Chekov.

And Samwise Gamgee himself is supposed to be there, although he canceled last year.

I'll be there. And I'll be engaged in full on geek pandering. Performing in at least one Atlanta Radio Theater Company production, a Doctor Who parody stage show, and apparently I'll be appearing as Professor Moriarty for some panel on Saturday. I have no idea what the details are for that last one. So . . . yeah.

Is this the sort of thing that is worth going to just a day of?

That pretty much depends on what you're interested in. Randi and Michael Shermer are going to be on a few panels about skepticism that I'd like to attend (though I dread the Q & A session where I'm sure at least one or two nutjobs will angrily question their points). If you want to just take in some of the freak show, you don't even have to buy admission. Just go to one of the hotels, take a seat at the bar or in the lobby, and people watch. Or check out the parade on Saturday morning. If you want to check the dealer's room (which I think is less relevant every year now that you can find all this stuff on the Internet), you'll need an admission.

The con is about 80% nerd party and 20% panel discussions. And the quality of the panels isn't a sure thing either. Some are really informative or entertaining, others had a good concept but poor execution, and others should never have been considered in the first place.

It boils down to your mileage may vary. Personally, I'm burnt out on the con. As a kid I thought it was fun. As an adult, I just show up, perform, and then usually skedaddle.

Hmmm, I may have to go for a day just for the novelty of the experience. I like the sound of those skepticism panels.

Last year, I went to a Hot Fuzz panel, and ended up being part of the panel. It was later in the day, like 6 PM or so, and one person didn't show, and the other person overslept and was late, so since I was chatting up the panel lead, she invited me up to discuss the movie and Shaun. It was fun.

And some of the panels are fun like that. The Mythbusters panels they had last year and the year before were fun (the build team came and chatted about the show). They've had some great Firefly panels as well. Actually, most of the panels with the guests are pretty good. The ones run by fans can also be good, but it's not unusual for them to be really, really bad.
