Coroners with sandwiches

I recently watched Night of the Creeps and noticed that the coroner in this movie always had a sandwich or some kind of bread with meat. He even pops open a briefcase and grabs a sammich.

How many other movies featured coroners with a sandwich or at least with food or beverage?

Almost all of them, I think. The Enforcer, the Dirty Harry flick?

Extra props to the ones who drop bits of food on the corpse. Classy.

I don't think he had any actual food on him, but the best movie coroner is the one from THE ENFORCER.

I just remembered Braindead. Peter Jackson had a sandwich and used the corpse as a plate.

That's a good observation. There's also the fire investigator or firefighter who chain smokes as seen in Backdraft and the arson episodes of Homicide.

I can't think of specific movies, but it feels like all of them feature sandwich eating coroners.

As for TV, Illeana Douglas' character on Six Feet Under was chomping on a hoagie when we meet her.

Just watched Pathology, and there was at least one scene where a sandwich is eaten over an open body cavity.

Fletch has the classic sandwich-eating coroner and I think might be the same guy who played sandwich eating coroner in Arachnophobia.

I once had to help cater a mini-convention of doctors practicing surgical techniques on dead bodies. At one point I delivered a cooler to a morgue, and interrupted some guy hard at a work on a knee. So, yeah coroners are living people who eat, I can vouch for that.

Started watching Diary of the Dead the other night, and while it's not exactly a coroner, there is a specific shot and mention of an ambulance driver eating a sandwich at the scene of a triple murder/ suicide.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has a coroner who not only eats a sandwich over Jason's body, but leers at cute murder victims. The movie Cannibal Man also comes to mind, with the opening scene of a guy eating a sandwich at a slaughterhouse.

A classic: John Sayles' half eaten burger sitting next to a tray with brains on it in The Howling (one of a few great meat related gags in that movie)

also, there's another scene I've got memories of, but I just can't remember the damn movie. I'm thinking it's an 80s American horror movie (maybe horror comedy?). It's got a geeky looking morgue attendant with glasses, there's a fresh corpse on the slab in the middle of the room, and he's eating like a really messy pizza or something, and then he leaves the food on the table and the camera lingers on it for a bit just to get the grossness across. There might be other body parts around the room too.

Not much to go on I know, but someone help me out with this otherwise it's gonna bug the SHIT out of me.

Yeah, coroners are either hungry all the time in movies (just to show you how unphased they are about all the gross stuff and to get a reaction out of the audience), or necro-perverts (especially in vampire flicks). "Check out the tits on this one..."

The Coroner in Bride of Re-animator is eating a sandwich, even leaving it on a body at one point.

It's a common gag.

This reminded me of Vince Masuka from Dexter (played by the excellent C.S. Lee). He's forensics, not a coroner, but he has to be the king of characters who make inappropriate comments while working with corpses in a professional capacity. Don't recall if they ever showed him eating on the job, but in his own way he is kind of a spiritual successor to all these Coroners with Sandwiches.

That was an inside joke between Pitt and Soderbergh that came about because Pitt showed up to a meeting starving. So Pitt suggested that his character always be seen eating.
