I went to a screening of "The Ring" last night

I went to a screening of "The Ring" last night in New York. I have seen the original version, which I loved, so I was very excited to see how the remake would turn out. I must tell you that I enjoyed the movie a lot. It was very well done. Some of scenes were actually better than the original. Of course there are a couple of things I didn’t like, but that is to be expected. I hated the ending. The original ending is just so much better. Plus they had to explain a lot of things, which is never good. Also they killed off a character that doesn’t die in the original. Guess they won’t be remaking Ring 2.

The Crowd was very into the movie, which I loved. Walking out of the theater these 2 big guys were talking and one of them turns to the other and says, “Shit, that movie really freaked me out”. And that is purpose of this film; it’s a really creepy movie. Hopefully the buzz pays off and the movie will have nice run next month. But that’s only if people can look passed non-existence of any blood.

In closing, whether you have seen the original or not, you should really enjoy this movie. Thanks a lot for taking some time to read my post. Bye bye.

Sounds good. Cautiously looking forward to it.

The original was great and the remake doesn't look to bad but I wouldn't say that it will turn out to be better then the original.

I'm very hopeful for The Ring. I love Naomi Watts and I really believe she should have been nominated for an Oscar last year for Mullholand Dr. I don't think a horror movie needs an R rating to be good. Lately, some of my favorites have been PG-13. A few F words and blood splashing don't matter to me. Of course, I am against it if they cut it to get a PG-13.

I don't even think this movie has a single curse. If it did, it was probably shit. Like the last guy just said, a scary movie really doesn't have to be rated 'R'.

Now of course I dont want a movie like "Freddy vs. Jason" to be rated PG-13. ::Crosses fingers::

Dude...looks aren't everything. You gotta dig their personalities too! Plus, her favorite movie is Joe Dirt??? She must be really good looking for you to go out with someone how has listened to the commentary track on the Joe Dirt DVD...

I really hope I can see this before it hits theaters, because this is going to kick serious ass.

I caught this during the weekend of the Fango convention. I reviewed it for the Corner that week.

Don't be hung up on the rating. It's not watered down, there's just nothing especially gory or anything involving nudity or super-harsh language. It's just a good story, very creepy and very well done.

Remember, Poltergeist was rated PG.

Rmember also THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, BURNT OFFERINGS, RACE WITH THE DEVIL, THE DEVILS RAIN all were rated PG too!

Hey what was that movie about cannibalism back then too...something like THE HORROR AT RED HOOK INN or something?

The original Haunting of Hill House was rated G. That still is the scariest movie I have ever seen...and if you haven't seen it SEE IT!

I mean - I hope it's not watered down in terms of banking on a primarily teen audience. Truly scary movies can be rated "R" for being terrifying - compare the Changeling "R" to The Haunting "PG-13".
True, but keep in mind, the PG-13 wasn't an option when The Changeling was released. It was either PG or R.

Also keep in mind that in the early '80s, anything less than an R was though to be the kiss of death box office-wise for horror films.

At the time, a PG signalled a weak, kid-orientated picture like The Watcher in the Woods.

Nowadays films like The Sixth Sense, The Others, What Lies Beneath, and Signs have proven that PG-13 horror can still be scary and pull in a wider audience at the same time. So it's not surprising that studios are aiming for that.

And as long as the films are good, I don't have a problem with it. I know I'd much rather watch the above-mentioned PG-13 movies - and consider them to be better examples of the horror genre - than the R-rated likes of FeardotCom and Halloween: Ressurrection.

Can't wait for The Ring.
