Patrick Murphy is a mutherfucking G

Good won a round.
And kept going.

What balls, what heart. His disdain for the position of Elaine Donnelly is righteous and his critique is faultless. If I was from Pennsylvania I would be high-fiving myself right now.

Go America!

Man, that is fucking great. Rock on, Patrick Murphy.
Thanks for posting that. Absolutely awesome.

Great job Murphy.

Fantastic. Wow, Ms.Donnelly really needs to sit down and re-evaluate her beliefs. I love that she points out that we could eliminate discharging people based on their sexual orientation if we just didn't let them into the military in the first place.

A good chunk of this country really needs to grow the fuck up.
I also wanted to punch Ms. Donnelly in the mouth when she continued the mis-fucking-guided belief that just because someone's a homosexual they have no control over their sexual urges and would turn into a bunch of gay rapists if they were on a submarine.
Not to mention that heterosexual assault is a big problem in the services. Maybe we shouldn't let heteros in either!
Homophobes puzzle me. Why do they care?
Because they yearn, Seabass. They yearn.
I have yearnings too, but I don't argue to the highest in the land that S&M shouldn't be allowed.

I actually watched this last night, because I have no life and I enjoy C-SPAN, and was most impressed with Susan Davis, the chairwoman of the hearing. Most of the congressmen, though I agree with them, were getting emotional or just repeating themselves about lofty ideals, and Davis kept poking at the specific questions which would actually give Donnelly and her side trouble.
That seems to happen a lot these days.

How are these arguments not exactly the ones that were used against desegregating the army? "There's nothing wrong with them. It's just that a lot of soldiers are racists and having blacks among them would be bad for morale."

What a fucking legend. Thats awesome

A straights-only military is such an indefensible position, especially when you have truly excellent soldiers like Eric Alva to reference, that I was happy to see someone finally give its proponents the contempt they deserve. Too many politicians are scared to call hateful legislation and its hateful advocates out.

I have to wonder why those who want to swell the US military's ranks are willing to lower recruiting standards so, but don't want to swell those ranks with gay people. They're shooting themselves in the foot, arguing that an arbitrary segment of the population is not fit for government work.

Well, by and large until more recently, the country has been homophobic and if you openly allow gays in the military it might discourage homophobic people from joining because they don't want to be sleeping next to some gay guy or showering with them. Chuck and Larry was a docudrama.
Except if that thinking is actually false. This was actually discussed (if something briefly) last year.

Since when did what recruits want matter? If they can't take a joke, they shouldn't sign up.
It matters only to get them to sign the dotted line. The best salesmen in the entire world are recruitment officers. They got their own little special training program and everything.
They can't be that good. Standards have lowered at least twice since the US pretended Iraq posed a threat to drum up support for its invasion.

Yeah but you still voted for Clinton.

I love how she brings up the one instance where a group of women raped another. I would assume you could rattle off a some male on female assult for a good hour.

Policy should be gone by Jan/Feb of 09.

True, and I don't wanna get into that.

Mainly because I voted for McCain.
Well, it *was* Bill's policy. The military will do what it's told.

What the great Patrick Murphy needs to do is get Pelosi and Reid to make the legislation, watch Bush veto it (which he assuredly would), and then override his veto.

Ten minutes later...no one in the military will care, except for the douchebags. And they'll be outnumbered. Any policy that couldn't survive a draft is retarded window-dressing anyway.
Yeah I really don't see how (or why) anyone can argue that gay shouldn't be in the military.

The only question that comes up to me is the question of...segregation, for lack of a better word. Since homosexuality somewhat blurs the line between male and female, the quesiton for me has always been - where does a gay person use the bathroom, and how is that justified? Where does a gay person attend boot camp, and which barracks does he/she stay in?

Personally, I don't care about staying with, showering with, etc, a gay person (my brother is gay and I'm friends with many of his gay friends) but I can see a semi-legit argument being built from those points.
I was never bothered by the fact that some of my fellow Marines were gay. What did bother me was that by lowering the standards for enlistment to the point where you could get a waiver for anything up to murder, I was serving with some mentally unhinged individuals who now qualify as a marksman with firearms. These people need to step back and see the big picture.

You know, that's what I thought the argument was, too. But after watching, I see that Donnelly was saying that it was the gay soldiers who couldn't control themselves, that they would be the ones who'd be assaulting people, etc.

Terrible.
There needs to be more people like Patrick Murphy.
He's great. Donnelly's argument is surreal.
Her argument would make a great plot for a DTV horror flick. DEPRESSURIZED LUST starring Ryan Philippe as the lone straight man on a submarine of randy homosexuals trying to rape him. Hell, forget DTV, release it in December. That sounds like a prestige film.

I also like how Patrick was completely nonplussed when Donnelly asked what the female soldier should have done after being assaulted by the "pack of lesbians." The man can think on his feet, and it definitely gives him the edge when dealing with the Elmer Fudds of the subcommitee.

Please tell me I'm missing the irony emoticon here... How does it blur the line between male and female?
Transgender, possibly, but gay? Kidding, right?!
