The County Fair - Page 4

Almost all the fairs here in Florida happen outside the summer months, and most are in the February to April window. Probably because the last thing you want to do in this state between May and September is walk around outside and eat fried food.

We really haven't had a typical Summer up here in MN (we never even hit 90 this July), so it should be a particularly pleasant experience at both the State Fair and the Ren Fest this year.

Didn't even hit 90 in July? I sense a bitter cold Winter coming your way.

Yeah, here in Pennsylvania, we've had a very cool and wet summer. In the Poconos, it raines something like 23 out of 30 days in June. Therefore, by the time our big fair rolls around at the end of September, I expect we'll be knee-deep in Indian Summer and it will be blazingly hot.

Ugh, your mosquitos must be unbearable this year, Mattioli.

We had a bit of a drought in the beginning of Summer so we haven't had our usual swarm of mosquitos and gnats. We've received a ton of rain since, especially in July, but not enough to raise their populations. It's been GREAT.

We've had a cool summer too. Of course now that the fair is here the forecast has 90 degree temps and thunderstorms. Nothing like sleeping in a leaky camper with twin 1 year olds as the wind and thunder whip about outside.

I don't dance

Hold on, am I one of the friends who don't dance? If so it explains why my friends only hang around me for a short time. I always thought it was my abrasive personality and crippling shyness.

On the other hand, it is possible that I have always longed to dance and pushed away my friends because they denied me that oppurtunity. That would make the song about me. These are the kinds of things that cause me to have panic attacks.

So... I probably should have quoted Leeann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" instead, huh?

You guys with your cool summers. Here in Austin, we're suffering our worst drought since the 50s and it's been over 100 and humid almost every day since May. I stay at home with my daughter and run the A/C almost constantly just to keep it bearable, so our utility bill has been nuts.

Today we may hit 105. Fort Worth, where they have the Texas State Fair, is probably not much cooler.

Oddly enough I do feel small when I stand beside the ocean.

*TYPICAL MINNESOTA WINTER DANCE*
We may as well call it for what it is.

I think I love you.

Edited to Clarify: It's not that I like to eat trash like a rat. It's that the movie was on *constant* rotation whenever we would travel with my grandparents in their RV. It's the like ultimate southeastern kid's movie. And I just loved that wacked out rat. He was the best. So thank you.

We STILL have the Zipper ride at our State Fair. I've never ridden on the damn thing; I've watched sick people stumble out of it, and I've watched carnies hose out vomit-laden cars. No thanks.

I rode on one of those with this girl that I was trying to bang when I was in high school. Really smart thing to do when you're terrified of heights and she's like "C'MON, LET'S FLIP THE CAR!"

Did you bang her, at least? She owed you SOMETHING after forcing you to ride in that thing.

I'm sorry, but rides like the zipper just have too many rotating parts for my stomach to handle. I just look at them and my stomach gives me a vurp as a warning shot.
Vurp is an awesome word... first time I've heard that.

It's funny how your John Candy avatar goes perfectly with this picture.
