Anyone else going? It's in two weeks.

Myself and a large group of friends will be doing the World of Darkness LARP.

Never went, but I'd love to go sometime. I used to do the Minne-Con here in Minnesota before it became an alternative lifestyle parade. It got taken over by the uber-goth satanic wannabes going around and making a nuisance of themselves. They were amusing for a while and then it got annoying.

I had a friend who used to go to this every year when it was still based in Milwaukee, and was he ever pissed when they moved it.

But to answer your question, no I won't be going.

Been twice, although both times were in Milwaukee. The thought of a Gen Con without a visit to The Safe House just doesn't seem right.

Now, the last time I was there was in 2000, but I was amazed at how approachable all the companies were, even the (at the time) big guns like TSR and FASA. You could just walk up and chat with Dave Arneson or Steve Jackson. Granted, that's just good PR, but to react enthusiastically to what had to be thousands of variations on "And then my character..." they heard that weekend required the patience of a saint. And if you came at them with something that was actually original or unique, their eyes lit up and they started jabbering away just like any other geek.

And while I never went to one, I hear the annual White Wolf party is the stuff of legend.

The White Wolf part is amazingly crazy. My friend was invited last year because he won the Vampire Requiem novel contest (he's almost done with the book so don't fret if you're waiting for it).

I never went to it when it was in Milwaukee (even though that's infinitely closer) but I have to say I really love Indianapolis as a city. It just has this great vibe, and there are still some good bars to hit up when not at the convention proper.

Also, it does seem the companies remain easy to approach. My highlight of last year was talking with the guys from Paladium Games.

Thing is, almost all those guys started off as players. They know what it's like to be on the other side of the booth, and let's be serious, nobody in gaming is making so much money as to be able to consider themselves above it all.

Mostly, the kind of LARP (Live Action Role Play) White Wolf supports is more on the "walk around playing rock, paper, scissors" variety. Sure, we dress up as homeless people (playing Bone Gnawers, for those of you who care), but nothing close to the reject cast of Lord of the Rings.
