Just saw commercial for Starship Troopers 3...

Great Xenu's ghost! It looked beyond horrible. I don't know what was worse - the shoddy FX or the acting. And the mechs, oh the mechs, looked so, so bad.

The trailer that came out a few months back got me excited. Everything I've seen or heard about it since has not been pretty.

I will spend my hard earned $4 to watch it though because I'm not well. At this point I have higher hopes for the following week's big ticket DTV sequel, ART OF WAR 2!

It seems they broke into DTV hell. Stealing ideas from that cartoon series. Man they are really trying hard to find purchase for this franchise.

Wow, I was just about to do a *Paging Moltisanti*, looks like I beaten to the punch.

It's better than #2, but the CGI is god awful. The mechs don't show up till the last 10-15 min, but look like they came straight from a Mechwarrior video game in the early 90's. Maybe blind nostalgia for having Johnny Rico back helps more than it should - having a friendly face around probably dulled a lot of the pain. At least they brought back the old Federation propaganda videos which were sorely lacking from #2.

Would you like to know more?

Are we really shocked?
I mean, this film has a character called Dix Hauser!

Is it me or did Casper Van Dien's voice drop a few octaves from the first movie to this one?

Maybe puberty finally kicked in.

I can't wait to see Starship Troopers 3...my copy from Best Buy arrives either Monday Aug 4th or Tuesday Aug 5th.

LinusUK, So there is a character named...Dix Hauser, It is no stranger than some of the character names in the 60's,70's, and 80's James Bond Films.

Which was using concepts from the original book.

Oh come on now that Casper is back this series can finally get back on track

I only have one rule. Everyone fights. No one quits. You don't do your job, I'll shoot you myself. You get me?

I've only seen the first half but it was fucking awesome. I love the tone.

I'll give it points for having a giant Cthulhu bug at the end, but jesus is it fucking terrible. And the CG is beyond awful, with the exception of the one shot of the new fleet that they took from the first film. They would have gotten better looking powered armour by FRAPSing Battlefied 2142.

Yeah, the mechs are from the book.

This is one of the few Heinlein books I never read. I rarely see movies with bugs in them as i have a real fear of insects. Which I got from seeing the original Fly film as a child.

Watching this film has made me wish for another Klendathu, fast.

I thought this would be great drunken "bad movie watching" with friends, but they hadn't seen the 1st so I switched this off a half hour in, and played the Verhoeven classic(yes, it's a modern classic). So much better.

That said, it starts out REALLY bad, but in the end it's better than 2, not that's saying much(2 has vastly superior FX, go figure). But it's not the godawful mess the first act would imply(but yeah, it's still shitty).
Why on earth did they choose the one actress with the super-thick accent?
Why are there so many Rico lines that lend themselves to Dix/dicks jokes?

I just got home from a midnight movie showing of Starship Troopers and was compelled to post here.

I know ST3 only had a DTV budget, but you'd think after 10 years they could do better than they did! Jesus, I think the visual effects of the first movie are destined to age well forever. Unfortunately for ST3, this is the standard it has to compete with and it ain't pretty.

Other than the silly Sky Marshall music video, ST3 was so dull. It only got unintentionally hilarious when the mecha-angels flew in forming a halo around the religious girl.

But mostly, I just want to continue to praise Verhoven's film. I get that it's all a satire. But despite that tone and the terribly bland actors in the movie (other than Ironside!), Verhoven and Poledouris get me caring for the story anyway. It's utterly ridiculous and the fascist part of me loves every moment of it.
