It's basically System of a Down without Serj from what I've heard so far.

Yeah, pretty much. I've listened to the entire album, and musically it is better than Serj's solo album (Malakian is just good at making catchy simple riffs). On the vocal side of things, if you didn't hate his singing on Mezmerize & Hypnotize, you'll probably like it.

I wouldn't put it in the words Barkatthemoon said. Daron wrote 90% of System's music, so of course it's a branch off of them, but it's more of a rock record then metal. It's a solid album but nowhere in the league of System.

Well, System wasn't exactly metal. But yeah, there isn't much of a metal influence on this album as there were on the System ones.

Like I said there are some nice catchy riffs throughout the album. Though I gotta wonder how different the record would have been had Casey Chaos stayed in the band.
