Eli Roth Is In INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. What A Surprise.

Would it be advisable not to read more news regarding this project? I mean, I suppose this site won't flat out spoil it, but considering how known the script is, I doubt other sites would be that decent...

That debunked rumor about DiCaprio playing Landa is probably not sounding nearly as bad to a lot of people right about now. Short of casting porn stars in a remake of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, I think I'd have enough faith in QT's vision to be on board with just about anything he wanted to try. But this would make me a little skeptical, to say the least.

If you don't want to know about movies beforehand, disconnect the Internet.

How many make up the group, apart from the Pitt role? Six with him?

Just trying to think of how many character actor parts are still up for grabs.

I haven't read the script, by the way.

That is a surprise. A baffling, unpleasant surprise.

If he doesn't put Udo Kier in there somewhere I'm going to be very disappointed. Kurt Fuller should be in there too. He did a great job portraying Werner Klemperer portraying Col. Klink in Auto Focus.

I didn't mean it like that, but ok, whatever. Nevermind.

I fucking hate Eli Roth's "acting." He infuriates me to the point of wanting to throw shit at my screen in Death Proof. Maybe it's his face...
I'll say this much about casting Eli Roth-- it gives this Inglorious Bastards cred for having real B-movie acting.
I said it before but I really think he should only cast Jewish directors as the eponymous bastards. He should be able to get a nice cast together. Liev Schreiber is Jewish and so is Favreau I think.

Jason Schwartzman.

Not even fucking kidding.

I had an outside pipe dream of hoping the CHUD-born Seth Rogen as Donnie idea would pull a Rorschach and become a reality. That said, is Eli Roth's 5 minutes of screentime in Death Proof enough to condemn or commend his acting?

Also, for Col. Landa, can I suggest Thomas Kretschmann?
Just had a look on I.M.D.B. and some are pissed that Tarantino's going to cast a german actor as Landa.I can understand their feelings,it is a bit "Twilight Zoney" casting a german as a german Colonel! fuckin idiots.

Casting of Roth is disappointing,i just find him irritating,he reminds me of the stereotypical jerk frat boys that you see in teen comedies.I'll give him one thing he does have crazy eyes which could work in his favour playng Donnie.
Who says nepotism is dead in Hollywood huh?
Eli Roth means very little to me as an actor, and I haven't read the script, so admittedly the news doesn't do much other than help cement the "Holy crap Tarantino's making a movie" thoughts in my head.
The right character popped into my head as soon as I read the title, so I guess I can't argue with it.

Still pulling for Matt Damon as Landa and that German who shot Hanks in Saving Private Ryan as the lead basterd. Doesn't make any sense, but still.

I Thought the chudcaster put him in Jew Bear's shoes?

Wait, is it Jew Bear or Bear Jew? Because if it was Bear Jew then I completely overestimated the awesomeness of Inglorious Basterds...

edt: never mind, that was the same character, duh.

Ho-ho-ho! It just gets better and better.

I vote for condemning. During that whole little monologue of his, he didn't have crazy eyes, he had what some people in the frat scene have called "hungry eyes." That is, he really looked more interested in fucking the weaselly guy he was talking to than the girls. That either makes him a really bad actor or the other guy someone who would do a bit too much for two minutes' worth of screentime.

Hate this casting. Hate it.

So who's next up? TIM Roth or Tarantino himself?

Speaking of which, why not Jackie Earle Harley in Bastards?

Apparently, I'm one of the few people who hasn't seen/read the script for this project. Can someone provide a link to where I can get it?

Not having read the script I can´t really make an educated fantasy casting guess.
But in my eyes Kretschmann is a bit obvious. Is he actually the only German actor with some skills in Hollywood right now? I can´t think of anybody else.
Anyway there are dozens of German actors that are way more versatile than him and more than capable to work on such a high profile project.

I haven´t read it either and I am hoping to hold up my will power. But if you really wanna read it I think you can easily hunt it down via google.

I kept visualizing Til Schweiger in the role, actually.

Only when I say so.

No, but the thoroughly wonderful, time-jumping introduction of this character would be served by a) a better, more charismatic actor; and b) someone big. He's called the "Bear Jew"; I assumed he'd be a big motherfucker, not....Eli Roth.

Fat suit.

While Donnie doesn't say much in the script, he says enough for me to say fuck this atrocious casting choice. Tarantino needs to stop smoking so much weed. Eli Roth is a horrible actor and a horrible director. And Donnie was fat in the script if I remember correctly.

I got the feeling from his performance in Death Proof that Roth really is like that. I hope a) I'm wrong and/or b) he somehow learned how to act (and gained about 30 lbs, fat guy muscle).

You're not alone. I haven't read it, and won't read it before actually seeing the flick for myself.

Having said that, however, I simply can't get behind this casting. Like Tarantino himself, Roth really belongs behind the camera (and even then, I'm not so sure).

I'm still EXTREMELY excited about Inglorious Basterds (it's probably my most anticipated film of next year, even more so than Watchmen), but this is definitely a strike against it. Hopefully it's the only one, but man...it's a big one.

Shit. I hope Roth has some hidden acting talent, because if not, he has the potential to fuck up every scene Donny has a big role in.

Hopefully the casting of Roth means the character has been revised and his screen time reduced. Just as likely it's been beefed up, I guess.
