That preview has got my interest piqued. The idea of a massively co-operative Diabloesque Shooter with hundreds of thousands of weapon variants sounds awesome. As does all the talk of driving around deserts with your pals.

I've been hearing nothing but good about this for a long time. My problem is that I suspect they're trying something too big for Gearbox and it'll be a severely buggy launch.

Still, I like their ideas and would like to subscribe to their newsletter.
Possibly the most underwhelming game I saw at E3. Who the fuck cares about 600,000 weapons (or whatever ridiculous number it's up to now?)

But they have sniper rifles with revolver barrels! I don't know I've kind of been interested in the game since I saw that trailer on XBox Live which looked like a mix of Unreal Tournament's big vehicle battles and Stalker.
I'm really interested in this, but I just have no faith in Gearbox to deliver the goods.
In fairness, what they're claiming - customisable vehicles, randomly generated scenery and apparently only a single load time - would be awesome - if handled on the correct engine.

To be fair, it'd be nice to have those features in any game.
Started a thread for this months ago but it must have gotten lost during the site renovation.

Looking forward to this just because of developer Gearbox alone.

Looks good. They really weren't kidding about it being Diablo with guns. It gives off a great MMO feel on small scale. I doubt ill mess with the single player much and do just multi.
Anyone checked out what they have been doing with this game lately? Even though the new looks is great, with the the setting i cant really say I'm a big fan with the art style they have chosen to go with. It has gotten me re interested with it though....i kinda thought it dropped off and got canceled.

I'm quite liking the new look, it separates it from all the other gritty brown and grey shooter involved games.

It is unique(ish) now with a look to match he curious gameplay mix.

4 player quest co-op online in a large world with customizable weapons and vehicles AND stat building? yes please.

I'm really digging the new art style. Hopefully this game will succeed in every way that Hellgate: London didn't.

Game just gets better and better. Bring on October plz
post #16 of 1026
Awesome. Seem like they dropped a bit of the post-apocalyptic vibe and went with something a bit more fantasy sci-fi. I was a on fence with the change of the art style but seeing it in motion I defiantly like it.

I like how you see how much damage your doing when you shoot an enemy. When you pick up a new gun you'll really be able to tell exactly how much stronger it is.

I wonder if the characters will all have access to same skills or if each character will be its own special class like in the video.
Jesus, this looks awesome too. Where am I going to find the time and money for everything coming out between October and the end of the year? This really is shaping up to be a banner end-of-the-year for games.
For the life of me, I can't remember the last time my opinion for a game changed so drastically. If it wasn't for Dragon Age this would have been the one game I'd be guaranteed to buy this fall. Well done Gearbox.
Yeah, the actual Gamespot video is a way higher quality but man, this is looking great.

October is shaping up to be a tough decision month with Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3: GOTY, Forza 3 and Blur all coming out that month.

I was already sold on the game, but now I can't wait. I'm currently harassing my Xbox Live compatriots to buy the game day one so I've got people to play with. This, GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Dragon Age are pretty much the only games I'm getting release date this year.

I'm pretty much the same way, except Alpha Protocol instead of Dragon Age.

What the *bleep* is going on with the art style? Who okayed that change?

Are you seriously irritated by the cel-shading?
Go fuck yourself, Overlord.

Unless you're doing your "fun" trolling again like with The Force Unleashed. In which case, go fuck yourself twice.

The art style change actually makes the game look interesting and not exactly like Rage. Or Fuel. Or Fallout 3.
I think he said the same thing about Prince of Persia, so at least he's consistent.
Ack, it isn't Cell-shading (that is stuff like Wind Waker)

this is toon-shading (I got told off by 3d animator friends)

regardless, Borderlands = fuck yes

Glad to see someone fondly remembers the "pull small moons out of orbit" faux Force Unleashed articles!

I hope this doesn't turn into the movie forums, where we all have to like the same films in the same ways. I remember stills from a year or two ago, and the game looked great. This doesn't look at all similar. Also: 600K weapons? WTF?
Overlord's response to the new art style is about the same as his response to the NXE. Which I guess we should have expected. Personally, I'm not watching it and thinking it's cutesy but rather that it's simply no longer the grim and gritty imitation Fallout 3 wasteland anymore.
This looks awesome, I'm just afraid it's going to get lost in the holiday shuffle.

I have no problems with the cel shading, but the character designs for the good guys are a bit too TF2 for my liking. Everything else looks amazing. Almost like they set a game in the 3rd act of Doomsday.
That's a wonderfully cut together trailer. Good song choice, excellent choice of money shots (destructable buildings always welcome!). 87 bazillion weapons, whilst initially not something that interested me - looks to be a drop in the ocean compared to the other stuff on show here. Man, co-op too is just the sweet, sweet icing on the cake. I'd have thought Overlord would have lapped this up.

It all now rests on the engine. Fuck, I wasn't expecting to have another game to keep me going.
Overlord doesn't enjoy sunsets, he yells at them for having subpar framerates.

It has randomly-generated weapons, a la Diablo. So, you know, a Magical Flesh-Eating Acid Shotgun Of Invisibility, that sort of thing.

Love that trailer so much. Looks like each character has individual skillsets which is cool. Of course this Shooter is adding the 2 elements which ALWAYS addict me to games, LOOT and random Levelling Up so I'm mucho excited for it.
This game's going to be all about the co-op. If Borderlands was a traditional single player game I don't even think it would be on my radar with all of the other games coming out this fall.

Tell me a freakin' bout it. Any game that features this is practically guaranteed to eat up a large portion of my life.

Thanks alot, see you informative bastards on co-op!
Apparently the big dude goes into this berserker rage for his special and just runs around yelling crazy shit and hitting things and screaming and laughing like an insane bastard for like 2 minutes. Which is cool.

As for the weapons, it's all pieces. Like you have a shotgun. Ok, now shotgun with a scope, that's a new weapon. Shotgun with laser sight, another. Shotgun with laser sight and scope, one more. Shotgun with scope, laser sight, under slung grenade launcher with acid splash damage and the main shotty attack does lightning damage? Yeah, another weapon tick, slowly working it's way to 18 bazillion. I'm totally ok with that.

Also, the "elite" enemies in the game has the name "bad-ass." For example, you fight the normal fire beetles then the Bad-ass fire beetle. Yeah, I don't think this game is taking itself too seriously...
Can't wait to ride out into the wastes looking for loot and alien artifacts with some Chewers.
Yeah Diablo II had 87 bazillion weapons if you include all the modifiers, gems and etc that could be used to make new variations.
...Diablo II was great. I'm sensing a pattern!

Yeah, but Blizzard keep paying attention to their games post-release and are keen to get the balance right.

The problem with 87 billion weapons is very quickly the community will figure the 1 or two that are best and worth getting (also: see the efficiency thread). The game can have a lot of choice, but it needs to be balanced. Otherwie the choice is between what works and what doesn't.
In fairness I think I might have been joking.

Ignoring the fact it's a fairly limp developer and it's clearly a Fallout 3 clone that wants us to forget Fallout 3 existed - it still looks like fun.

Which is more than could have been said about it in the original incarnation.

I'm trying to think of a game that Gearbox has done that wasn't a PC Port or expansion. Having said that Opposing Forces was awesome and they do have a lot of experience with FPS's, hell they ported Halo over to the PC.
Conceptually, this looks like pure crack. Diablo-alike in FPS form. The only way it could be more addicting would be to make it an MMO. 4-player co-op is probably going to be enough to suck away lives for a lot of people.

I didn't see any mention in the trailer and am too lazy to google from my phone - is there going to be competitive multiplayer at all, or strictly co-op?

This game is going to get utterly slaughtered come Autumn, it just has no chance which is a shame because it looks amazing.
So the box art doesn't feature a lone warrior standing amidst a hazy rubblescape while clutching a rifle and looking angry? I have a hard time believing it's real.
I don't think that's the final/official box art. Otherwise you'd see 'Check out the Borderlands box art' posts on Joystiq and Kotaku by now.

Still, the more I read about it the more difficulty I'm having imagining how I won't like this game.
What, I'm not official enough for ya? They sent over a press release and just twittered about it, it's the real thing. Here's a big look- http://www.gearboxity.com/images/tra.../boxartbig.jpg
post #50 of 1026
So I guess the image is so awesome the mass amounts of traffic shutdown the borderlands and gearbox site?

But if the image i saw on some forum (a thug miming blowing is brains out) is the real thing....wow....i just really don't know what to say. I've never seen anything like it.
