John Edwards admits affair

Holy crap, the Enquirer was almost right. He isn't saying he's the dad but he's admitting to the affair.

Unlike Clinton I don't think Edwards' political career can survive this. Any chance at Attorney General just went kapot.
Yeah, fucking around on your terminally ill wife in addition to having the reputation of a chronically vain pretty boy can't be good for his career aspirations. Especially since he stayed in the race until it was mathematically impossible for him to recover after finding out about his wife... and then stupped the wife of a member of his own campaign. I don't think even Bill Clinton in his prime could have done that and come out okay.

Oh great. Thanks a heap, Edwards, for vindicating every mouth-breathing neo-con blogging idiot in America.
Whew. Dodged a bullet there by not electing him, didn't the democrates. I was rooting for him the whole time too. I liked him more then Obama way back in whatever month it was he dropped out.
Jeez. Desptie not being a big Edwards fan, but I was really hoping this wasn't true. I feel awful for his wife and kids.

I'm listening to CNN right now and they just interviewed the Enquirier editor who led the story. Says this is just the beginning as there may be a huge cover-up on who has been paying her, why she was hired with so little experience, why there is no father's name on the birth certificate, etc. Since the Enquirer feels vindicated (and man was it funny listening to the editor keep explaining to the CNN host how the big media ignored it) they're going to keep going and digging into this.

Well, he proved Ann Coulter wrong.

Yeah, that doesn't inspire confidence.

Regardless of political party, he's a lying piece of shit.

I feel bad especially for his wife, who from what I've heard prior to this, is getting sicker and fighting the cancer off admirably.

This, and I was gunning for the guy when the Democratic primaries first kicked off.

OMG! This is the HUGE! I demand 24-hour non-stop coverage on every network. As any responsible journalist or news director knows, this TOTALLY trumps that whole lying-president-who-forged-a-letter-to-build-a-case-for-war thing. Pfff.

I'm pretty sure just about every reasonable person believes that the vast majority of politicians are self-serving hypocrites. This isn't a party problem, it's a U.S. political problem.

Some day a brave man is going to stand up and admit he's made mistakes with drugs, alcohol and women, that he has doubts about the existence of God, and that he believes politicians have more important things to do than try to legislate morality. And the American people will reward this brave soul by either immediately kicking him out of office or voting for him in such low numbers that his career will be over.
What a worm. I trust he informed the Democrat hierarchy, and they've had a chance to prepare for this embarrassment.
Well, Don Fowler said a day or two ago that Edwards probably wouldn't get a prime speaking slot at the convo if he didn't come clean about this. But now that he's come clean, I can't imagine the DNC giving him ANY speaking slot. The most interesting political subplot now will be to see if Edwards is sill up for AG if Obama wins.

option # 3 the world will come to a end. Really haven't you ever read Plato? Lying sack of shit is kind on the classic definition of a politician.

I don't have that big of a problem with the lying aspect of this whole thing. I can understand why the guy is ashamed of what he's done and how he wants no one to know about it.

But, I have a serious problem with the guy cheating on his sick wife. It's despicable.

Yeah, that's why I said regardless of political party.

Don't matter if you've got a D or a R, they're pieces of shit.

I don't hate either of 'em.

For every Democrat having a marriage affair, I can name five Republicans.

Those guys are going to be idiots anyway. This is just red meat for them and yeah, they'll tear at it tenaciously but if it has to drop, at least it drops now and not during the convention. The story may not have died down after the Olympics but at least it won't be as a red hot.

Honestly, I just feel bad for his wife. Here's a nice little dose of getting cheated on to wash down your breast cancer.

Uh, yeah. How is that sexy? Plus, that shit is depressing. I'd much rather bring famous people down to my level so I don't have to feel so miserable about my lack of accomplishments.
Maybe Newt Gingrich and John Edwards could get together and form some sort of "Cheating on Your Cancerous Wife" club. They could have fundraisers!

Also, from the reports, Mrs. Edwards knew about the affair as early as 2006, yet still supported her husband's run for president. So she's not exactly a 100% completely innocent victim here, either.

yt, I thought you'd be tap-dancing-happy about this, as it goes to your "Big corporate media can never get the story" thesis.

FC, actually, my thesis is that the corporate media chooses not to cover the right story. This story is right up the Enquirer's alley, and their coverage is entirely understandable. The rest of the "news," not so much, which actually supports my thesis.

I can guarantee that Obama will not appoint Edwards Dog Catcher after this scandal. Edwards career on the national stage is over. He might still manage to eke out reelection to the Senate, but he will have no standing whatsoever in the National Democratic Party.
And we still might have another foot to drop with the baby. It is still up in air about who the father is.

No way is he going back to the senate. As the Joker said "You've change things...forever. There's no going back"

Cheating on your wife is one thing. Cheating on your cancer ridden wife. Well certainly another.
I just hope McCain makes some stupid off the cuff remark about this so the media can have a couple days telling America what Mccain did to his first wife.

It somewhat amazing that Edwards thought it was a good idea to run for President while having an affair. Though if Edwards won the nomination the convention would have been interesting.
This is why Dennis Kucinich is the perfect Democratic nominee, there's no way he's cheatin' on that hot piece of ass.

Edited to add the word "nominee".

Edwards is currently not in the Senate nor will he be anytime soon.

His political career is through.

The dirty secret about Edwards (aside from fucking around behind his dying wife's back.) is that he's a shitty politician. He talks the populist game and gets people to support him, but there's a reason he couldn't win his home state either as a VP candidate or in the primary. The knock people give Obama about being flash with no substance? Look to Edwards to see a REAL example of that.

Anyway, I've never had anything for the guy, but I'm pretty disgusted by him today, both for what he did and the damage he risked by running for President with this in his closet. Not a fan.

It's all cool, though. According to comments at DailyKos we shouldn't judge. Monogamy is for tools, anyway. Amazing how people will justify their hero worship.

Not to mention who else would even want to fuck that guy? I mean I know power is supposed to be an aphrodisac but jesus christ.
The arrogance of people in a position of power always amazes me. Regardless of party affiliation, they all feel like they're above the law and any form of scrutiny. In today's information age, it's absurd that any of them think that any dark secret won't see the light of day.
I don't understand why this is a story. Aside from the fact the Enquirer got it right but then why were they following him around in the first place? Stupid.

Exactly. He's the luckiest guy in the world, and thus he has a lot to lose. I think a guy with a lot to lose if the world goes to shit would make a good President, personally.

As someone in NC, this has been top news ALL day long. It's funny, I always knew the guy was a fibber. He graduated from NC State(my school) yet never acknowledges this in any fashion. He went to UNC for grad school, and acts like that is the only school he's ever fucking been to. Lemme tell you, it really pisses off the Wolfpack that one of our own has basically disowned us just for the sake of aligning himself with the more popular school. Dickweed.

Wait, wait, Ed, don't you think people like Kucinich and Thompson prove that that is true? Money and power are more surefire panty droppers than drugs or alcohol.
Yeah, it would have to be. Otherwise how was Henry Kissinger getting all that ass? I sure as shit don't believe it was because the ladies were interested in his thoughts on Vietnamization.

It's because his father worked in a mill Dammit!

Kissinger doesn't count because he's pure evil. Purely evil people tend to get a lot of ass. Even Hitler got a lot of ass.

Thanks for both Godwinning the thread and giving me the mental image of Hitler's scrawny white proud ass bobbing up and down on Eva Braun, bent over a tank.

Well, to be fair, most of what I'm seeing over there is outrage. I'm also throwing in the towel with the "why the hell would you make a presidential run with that lurking so close?" reaction.
