Repaying My Debt To CHUDciety

I'm sure a lot of you know me as that tempermental, occasionally hysteric and shrill poster who usually haunted the comic forum and got into petty scraps with Devin elsewhere. Well, I've been pondering my actions in light of my ongoing interest in this site and would like to offer my apologies and attempt to atone for it all in an effort to reintegrate with the population of these boards.

I've never stopped coming here since I've stopped posting. On even a practical level there's so much information to glean, but on top of that I have a passion for discussion of most things found in these forums whether I'm involved or not. I'd like to get into actual participating in these discussions and I'd like to do it free of any baggage of any previous incidents. Obviously that sounds like a selfish intention, but it's not quite like that. I recognize I was overly reactionary and would tend to hurt my argument (or others') more than help it, and wanted to aknowledge the great discourse that is frequently found on this site by apologizing and attempting to rejoin the fold. I want to contribute, not take away.

I think this is a great site filled with all kinds of informed discussion of various topics that pretty much anybody should take a shot at reading. Even though I've had plenty of scraps with people here, I'd never deign to say most weren't intelligent or free of any quality. I'm actually a fan of Devin, for example, and still read his articles frequently. No matter how much I can disagree with him, his points are at least well articulated in his articles on the site and he definitely is vastly knowledgable.

Anyway, it's obviously up to you guys how you react (I fully expect a fuckload of "Piss off!" replies), but I thought I'd put this out there before I attempted to enter any discussions. I'll at least gauge reaction here before I do.

Appreciate it.

Also, I wanted to point out that I've been described as a pedant in the past here on these boards. I can't argue with that, but I can explain why a bit. I find in discussions on this site I don't want to colour my dialogue with cheap attempts to be funny as that's not what I'm here for, and I'm sure a lot of people would find such a thing annoying. I really want to come here and advance my opinions and knowledge on film and comics and the like and hear from others regarding the same.

Obviously I don't want to be completely robotic about it, but at the same time I don't want to interfere with attention-grabbing quips and obvious jokes.

Nice thread.

Sorry, just thought it was ironic. I never had a problem with you. Weren't you the guy who thought Martin Lawrence was the best thing since sliced bread? If so, while I never agreed with you, I could appreciate you sticking to your guns. If I'm thinking of someone else, sorry about that Martin Lawrence thing.

I sure as hell am not a Martin Lawrence fan. That's it! You've waylaid this whole attempt! I'm going back to my old ways because of this!

In all seriousness, I didn't even think of the irony there. I think that there's a difference in that I'm trying to make up for past mistakes, not get lulz.

Look, I'm certainly not up on my chewer politics, but I'll throw in this if it helps. If you want to get back into most peoples good graces on this board, starting a thread about it isn't really the way to go. If I were you I would hop into some movie threads, join the discussions, and avoid the arguments. I'm not saying this is advice I follow, but I've seen it work for a lot of the chewers around here better than I.

For what it's worth, I consider your slate wiped.

I didn't do that because I wanted to aknowledge that I know I could be a jackass at times, and I was sorry for it. Not only that, but in my experience you get a stigma on this site, it follows you no matter what you do. I've seen it happen with people other than me.

You did me a solid awhile back that I've never forgotten about, and I've always had a soft spot in my heart for you, occasional delirious ravings aside. I hope you're given a fair second shake. Welcome "back".

Never had a problem with ya, Smaegol. Welcome back.

Still not a fan of Civil War, though.

Did you think I wasn't including you when I said "Appreciate it, gang."? I definitely appreciate the fact that you're so juvenile you can't get over yourself and need to remind me whenever possible.

Take a bath and add a toaster. It'll be hilarious.

It's painful how Slater and Fett post with the exact kind of lame, attention-grabbing jokes that help bring the site down without the slightest sense of irony or self-awareness.

You started a thread to announce you came back a changed man. Calling others "lame" and "attention-grabbing" is kind of pot/kettle.

Post, don't post. Just don't take it seriously, add something to a conversation and try not to act like a douche. Or, at its core: APPLY COMMON SENSE.

It's pretty painful and lame that you post a thread titled "Repaying My Debt to CHUDciety" and expecting not to be ripped a new asshole?

The mere fact that you created this thread shows a supreme lack of self-awareness on your part. What's so ironic about Slater and me sharing the same sentiment? I don't think you know how to use the term properly without making yourself look like a bigger tool then you already are.

It wasn't intended to be an attack so much as a comment on the fact that I didn't want to get into discussions and then bog them down by subjecting my fellow chewers with any cheap attempts at comedy. If anything, I was intending to be self-deprecating, it just came out wrong. Sorry.

When calling Slater and Fett's remarks out, they are pretty lame and attention-grabbing. They're not here out of anything but self-interest and they're certainly not funny. Devin was at least frequently funny when attacking me. I still chuckle about "greatlakesadventuredisaster.gif".

That's what I intend to do. It is difficult at times even for the best of posters to do that, so I expect some stumbling on my part and will do my best to recognize and account for it when it occurs.

I totally did expect it, and referred to that in the first post.

There is plenty of irony in the fact that you and Slater clearly fancy yourselves far more valuable contributors to the discourse on this site than I, but fail to actually contribute much outside of hyperbole and ad hominem attacks. A cursory glance at your recent posts yields as much. Slater more than you, however.

Anyway, I'm done with you two. I said my piece, do what you will.

Sorry I couldn't hear you. Your huge inflated ego got in the way of anything meaningful or intelligent you had to say just now.

Did I miss anything important? No? Then we are most certainly done. Now run along and take a bath in a bag of razor bladed dicks. Good day to you, sir.

You can't 'big statement' your way into other people's good graces. Stop with the apologies, post something worthwhile, and don't be an ass about it. It's not hard.

Or if you want to be an ass, that's fine, too, but then don't take up space with silly, narcissistic threads like this.
