Britney's looking good.

Now don't say that I've never said anything nice about her.
What the fuck happened to Russell Brand's hair? And when did he become a big enough name to host the VMAs? All I've ever seen/heard of him was Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Wait... he's hosting the American VMA's? Like United State of American VMA's?

I just assumed it was the British/Euro one or whatever. Huh. Do people know who he is?
Wait, I totally missed out on using this: Is he a brand name?

I have no idea who he is. I assume a British singer. As soon as I heard him speak, I wanted Britney to go into her British alter ego. Man, I miss her crazy days.

He's a comedian and VJ on MTV. Only reason I knew of him was from his random appearance on Chelsea Lately.
Evidently, he showed up for work (at MTV) the day after 9/11 dressed as Osama bin Laden.

He was terrific in Forgetting. I'd never seen him before.
He's a stand up comedian who sort of took over British TV for half a year last year. He used a stint as a Big Brother presenter to launch his own chat show and then just appeared in absolutely everything. By giving him this chance he'll probably attempt to do the same thing in America.

Fucking Eskimos.

Thanks Alex.
I saw him on Jonathan Ross and I saw some of his standup on YouTube, but I didn't know Americans knew who he was. Good for him, I suppose.
His great role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall makes up for any lapsed time of not know him. Plus, he's been on Leno/Letterman/Conan like 8 times since then. He's the goods. Too bad he's wasting it on MTV.

I know him from his hosting of the UK spin-off of Big Brother, Big Brother's Big Mouth. He was supposedly famous in the UK for the number of drugs and famous women he did, at the same time. Though, I doubt he'll be able to get away with his his penchant for telling stories about what his ball bags, like he did while hosting Big Mouth, on the VMA's, which is too bad as I am curious as it's been a while since his last update about them.
I do like a good ball bag story.

You guys are ignoring the elephant in the room.

Beautiful.

Brand might actually be enough to make me watch (the YouTube highlights) of the VMAs.
I literally only watch MTV twice a year: the Movie Awards and the VMAs. The VMAs have steadily gotten worse and worse every year, though. I've noticed that whenever the show isn't set in NYC, it sucks especially hard. They put more work into making the location look pretty than into actually making the show as a whole any good. Other than Britney fucking up last year in Vegas, I cannot remember a thing from that show.
Brand will make it worth watching. He's a terrific stand-up. His biog, My Booky Wook, is a great read too.
This show is an abortion.
I watched the intro. Britney and Rihanna were not good but I thought Brand's monologue was kind of funny, if obvious. Why are there only 150 people there?
Because people have better things to do? I just find it strange Michael Phelps is there. The funny thing being he has actual talent.

Britney won two Moon Men. Instead of thanking God, she should have thanked her manager for rigging the votes. For serious.

Edit: Britney just won Video of the Year. What?! Did her video even air on MTV?
Show sucked big time donkey dick.

Aguilera lip-synched. WHY?

The room was incredibly small, which took away from the usual overblown nature of this show. I also hate this trend they've started of people performing OUTSIDE. I'd be pissed if I went to that show only to find that my favorite performer was singing out on the damn backlot. Bring the show back to Radio City Music Hall.

Brand bombed HARD.

Britney won three pity awards. What a fucking accomplishment.

Don't worry. She'll be headed right back to her trailer-park home by tonight.

If your favorite singer was Pink or the Jonas Brothers, you deserve to be outside.

Brand was fine. I don't think his British humour translated to this sort of venue though. He spent a bit too much time talking politics (normally a good thing) and trashing the Jonas Bros.' virginity.

Greatest bit of the night was when Slash LOLed while announcing Linkin' Park as the Best Rock Video winners.

I'm 34, so I remember when the VMAs were almost required viewing.. I went from going out of my way to watch the entire telecast, to watching something else but flipping back to MTV often so I didn't miss the handful of vaguely interesting performances, to taping it and watching 99% in fast forward, to ignoring it completely.
My kids watched it downstairs with my wife last night as I watched the Colts/Bears in another room. On the two occasions I went into the living room, I wintnessed:
A) Demi Moore, who looked damn good (but I can't figure out why she was there.)
B) The "I kissed a girl" song was performed live, but during a commercial. So when the show came back from break, you saw/heard the last 30 seconds. Are all the performances like that now?
I've read some press this morning proclaiming last night as her "comeback." Eh, no.
So I guess MTV gave her a few awards for a video that nobody's ever seen. Shit, I only heard that song once on the radio for about ten seconds. Enough with the "comeback" shit. Good for her: she's on her meds and spend thousands of dollars in lipo. Any talent ten years later? Nope.

Now THAT is something i wish i had seen. I'm suprised people are suprised when these shows suck. Didn't they always suck? I've never been much of an awards guy, so maybe i was just out of the loop on this for many, many (many) years.

I have no idea why Demi Moore was there either.

There were mainstage performers (Rhianna, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Kid Rock), backlot performers (the show was held at Paramount Studios so several bands performed on movie set locations; Jonas Bros, Pink, T.I.), and then there were several between break performers (LL Cool J, Ting Tings, Katy Perry). It was a bizarre set up all around.

It was so great. I mean he literally opened the envelope and laughed loudly into the mic before reading the winner. He was still chuckling to himself when Linkin' Park took the stage.

The awards shows have always been lame, but they were also sprinkled with cool and/or outrageous performances that you had to see to believe. The "artists" these days try so hard to be edgy that they just come off looking like posers. There was one band (Paramour?) who had a crappy song, but they sand live and just rocked their little hearts out. I give them props for authenticity.
No disrespect to our Brit Chewers and Devin but I frankly never found Brand to be funny. I mean he was fine in Sarah Marshall. But people find this guy funny?
He was funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and the clips I heard last night were just alright. It was kind of funny when he was talking about that kid band being virgins.

It's funny to me how the press keeps pushing it when the general public just doesn't give a shit about her music anymore. They just want to see what white-trashy thing she's going to say, do, etc. next. Sorry, but that doesn't sell albums.

I mean...how many times have we heard the phrase "comeback" used every time she does something remotely non-negative (i.e. her split with K-Fed, showing up on Letterman, her opening performance at the VMAs last year...err...well before we saw actually saw it, her "wins" last night, etc.)

Going back to Russel Brand this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1uhmnNnmL8

sort of presents the best and worst of the guy. Hilarious and articulate, but also completely and utterly full of himself.

Um, what the fuck is Tokio Hotel and why does it scare me?
