80's Draft: Rules

Rounds: 5 (no scheduled bonus round but it may happen)

Style: Snake*

Parameters: From Heaven's Gate (11/19/1980) to sex, lies, and videotape (8/18/89). All in between. US theatrical release dates. US and foreign films.

Start Time: This Thursday 8/14/08 at 9am EST (all draft times are EST) with the Day 1 team. The Day 2 team will go on Friday and then on Monday (Day 1 picks first in rounds 1, 3, and 5. Day 2 picks first in rounds 2 and 4.) Each day is broken down into six 2-hour time-slot groups. Each group is on the clock for two hours. Each group is on the clock for two hours. If every drafter from the previous group has selected, the next group may go. The next group may also go if the previous group's time runs out.

*Note: time slots remain the same even after the snake turns into a new round.

Also: I need a plucky volunteer to keep up the Chosen list and keep it up well.

Submit rules questions here.

In the name of redundancy, in case people look at the order thread and bail, I'd like to preemptively request a rule:

None of this business we had in the last draft with, "Ah, I've got to go out in a half hour when my slot comes up, so let me just post my pick now." Either make arrangements for someone else to put it up there in your allotted time, or post your pick after you get back.

I can do the Chosen again. I know I dropped the ball re: bonus rounds with the 70s draft but I enjoyed doing it.

I would propose a moratorium on draftable movies from that decade in the relevant threads. Just to preempt the bitching and spoiling.

Just want to clear something up, when any given team is on the clock, do they have to draft in the order that you ranked them? Or can they pick at any time during their alloted time slot?

Pick any time in your allotted slot.

Thanks, Rath.

Fordyce, yeah, anytime. I hope the groups can play nice and share though.

This is probably dumb but where is the official selection place 80's draft: list or the round one day one? which im sure tomorrow there will be a round one day two.

Each round/day will have its own thread and selections should be placed there.

List thread is for each individual drafter to keep track of what they've drafted.

thanks much

Hypothetical: What's the etiquette if two people (in the same group) post the same movie simontaneously?
They fight it out with sawed-off pool cues.

One of them will post first. Always.
Posting order wins.

Updated rules. Any clearer? Things like snaking, etc.

Crystal clear. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

No, I appreciate the discussion. I'd like to get to the point where I have the rules down in easy-to-understand text.

Team A and Team B?

Cross-posted from discussion thread: Is a film eligible if it played at a North American film festival during the relevant time period?
I know sex, lies and videotape premiered at Sundance, but we're using the actual release date of August 19th rather than the festival date of January 20th. So I'd lean towards saying that it's the general release date, not a festival date.
Ok, i'm sure this was addressed somewhere, but what about re-releases that occurred within the given dates?

Come on. NO.
No, unless it never played America before.
That's what I thought. Always worth checking. Sorry.

Oh, no harm in asking.
