Go go gadget trash talk.

Jan is going down. I HATE the guy. (Jan, i might need you to pick for me on monday )
I'm actually looking forward to the legitimately great vs. nostalgia pick debate and where the thin line is between the two. That should kick up some dust.

Also, I suspect this draft more than others is going to be a genre film bloodbath.
This is easily the weakest field yet in one of these drafts, if we're talking legitimately great films. And some of those great films are unabashed genre wallows. Should make for a great draft, though. I defy anyone to pick five great films. Great.

With Moltisanti involved, I have no doubt that will be the case.

I'm looking over a preliminary list right now. I strongly beg to differ.

I've got 15 picks that already validate this decade several times over.

Unlike the 70s and the 00s, I think I have some mighty gaps in my knowledge of this decade. Probably because I spent it immersing myself in the worst children's TV imaginable. I have a suspicion this draft will fuck my netflix queue up, unless everyone picks feature length kid's shows (Duck Tales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer, etc).

Stop giving people ideas!!!
I thought of that, and decided if someone was going to pull one of those, they deserve to have their joke stolen.

That 's the perception, but more of a myth.
First inclination is to paint the whole decade with the same brush; judge the whole thing by the sins of the latter half. But that's not fair. Some real classics, big & small, genre & not. Think it can hold its own with the 60's & 90's.

Looking forward to see what goes first. Top twenty will be fascinating.
I have my first-rounder picked, but I know it'll be gone by the time my slot rolls around. I suspect this is the case with most people.

Seriously, there are some really great films from this decade. I hope nobody remembers them so I can snatch them up.
I have a feeling we're going to see more than a few Canon films.
I practically feel bad about getting such an early pick, since my first choice always has been pretty low key. Are there bigger and better films than it? Sure, but they're few as interesting.

Well, I guess passing on one of the "big guns" will make someone else happy.

Fixed that for ya. Just let me know when you need me to place your pick.

The Cannon Canon?
Don't know what kind of secret deals & shenanigans are going on between the German and Argentinian--but I warn you, we 've seen Boys From Brazil! You won't get away with it!
5$ my #1 film is gone, most likely by fucking Dickson.
I still have no idea what I'm going to pick. I never really plan for these things, I just let my immense and well respected knowledge of cinema take over.

Also, cry about nostalgia picks all you want, the 80's was a wealth of solid genre efforts all across the board. Some of them were even honest to dog good movies.

It's time for us to capitalize on 60 years of lame jokes regarding Argentinians and Nazis. FEAR US!

(I still have NO clue what i'm going to pick. I'm leaning more and more towards winging it all the way)
I am totally torn by this one. The first pick is going to be the hardest. Some of my favourite genre films of all time were released in this period, as well as some of my most formative viewing experiences (I was born in '81). Its so hard for me to choose between beloved films, classic films and the ones that combine both.

I've got like 5 films that would all make excellent first picks. I guess if they all go by the time I come around, then that's that. But I genuinely could not tell you what my number 1 pick would be even if I was in the first group.

Oh, c'mon, we all know every Argentinian knows the secret location of Hitler's brain.

Buenos noches, mein fuhrer.
The line between nostalgia and quality is really blurred in that decade though.

And since I am drafting on day 2 I will start thinking about my first pick after the Bloody Monday and see what is left on the shelf. I doubt my top 3 will still be there, but with this field you never know.

And there will always be the unforgettable football matches between us as well as a source for endless mocking.

Do you remember the quarter-final ´06? Good Times!

Uh, sorry, but we won't mock the actual matches, we're too busy mocking the actual game. We call it Soccer. USA! USA! USA!
This is my first draft. No way can I compete with the likes of Strax in a straight up "Best Of" list, so I'm choosing a theme. I suspect Moltisanti and I may find ourselves at odds (after he exhausts all the Police Academy sequels).
Bad form, Bob, dropping the name of even those flicks. Besides, you have no idea how high in esteem I hold the first one.

I'm come to the conclusion that the likes of Strax, Dre, and Rex are smarter than me and see more of those funny talkin' foreign jobbers. Or they're just more pretense, pretench, Christ, you do you spell pretentious?
I'm pretty sure Strax will just make up names for at least three picks and none of us will blink. We'll just assume he's right and give him the winner's ribbon.
Do I honor my fairly high draft choice with a stone cold, argument proof, no justification needed solid pick, or take the movie I like more, knowing it won't last until day 4?

I got some decidin' to do.
That's the big question here. And picking between the three or four rock-solid choices I have for my first pick.
And so the predictability begins, but it's my absolute favorite movie from the decade.
Now I get to sit back and watch the rest of my top 10 fly away over the next two days, but there was no way in hell I was letting Raiders get away. There might be better-made, more profound films in the timeframe, but there's not a purer cinematic experience to be found.
Wow, I guessed Raiders was gonna go, but I didn't expect The Thing to go that fast. Still, my #1 is not gone, but there's no chance in hell it will last 10 picks...
Yup, my number 1 and 2 picks gone as i thought they would (of course i never once dreamed of getting those day 2. )
It was a real heart vs. head choice between my two #1s, and I went with the heart.
And your heart chose right.
No buyer's remore here.
Yeah, completely understandable 1st pick Dickson. Raiders belongs in that spot.
Not being snide-
So we don't need to wait for Matchstick to go first?
No, it's not in order.
The group can post within the timeframe whenever they want.
You can go anytime in your slot.
Who wouldn't grab Raiders #1?
Evil Dead 2 is the third pick. This is gonna be seriously nuts.

Is this another one of those rhetorical questions?

Wow, Dead by Dawn, third pick. Did not see that comng.
Raiders # 1?

*YAWN*
Heh, actually, I'm one of the proles on this one, looking over my picks. Not a blockbuster I sight -- actually there's one, I think, but only restrospectively and it's in reserve. All pretty recognisable. And awesome. Of course, when Banks and Dre and the like strip away all the goodness, I'm headed to the Eastern Bloc, fiends.
"Belongs in that spot"? Really? So the intimation is that Raiders.. is the best film of the decade?

Hmmmmmmm.
I'm probably the only one not doing any list for these things. That said, if I had, I'd be pissed at Fordyce for taking my number one.
Is Wilford Brimley a theme?

Yes, but you're gonna have a hard time making that fly.
