That sucks, wanna borrow mine?
Believe me if I had a Blu-Ray player Ratatouille wouldn't have been bought on DVD (only picked it up a few weeks ago).

I admit, I am curious about seeing some of what we know Peter Jackson shot then discarded in LOTR. The "Arwen at Helm's Deep" stuff, for instance. No way that can be put in the film itself, but it would make an interesitng extra feature.

And how about getting "The African Queen" finally out on DVD?

The problem with the STAR WARS special features, for the most part, is that they feel as though they were assembled by a marketing committee and not a passionate documentarian who lived, breathed, ate and slept STAR WARS. The SW DVD releases have been big but not particularly good. Although I was pretty impressed with the access and honesty on display in THE BEGINNING doc on EPISODE I.

My weird, partial wish list for discs in need of improvement:

SORCERER (widescreen, please)
THE ABYSS (16:9,please)
INDIANA JONES films (better extras, please)
THE AFRICAN QUEEN (still not released in R1)
STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (both cuts, better extras)
Stanley Kubrick's films (better extras)
Steven Spielberg's films (better extras)
Coen Bros.' films (better extras)
ALIEN 3 (uncut documentary, please)
OUTLAND (better transfer and any extras, please)
TITANIC (didn't love the film but would love to see the unreleased "tell all" documentary)
ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (better extras)
MIRACLE MILE (widescreen and any extras, please)
KING OF THE HILL (seems ripe for Criterion)
THE ROAD WARRIOR (an SE has long been in the works, needs to be released)
POLTERGEIST (needs MUCH better extras)
FLASH GORDON (ditto)

Pretty much all mentioned I agree with, especially Road Warrior, Badlands and the Coens movies. Am I right that the only commentary they did was for Man Who Wasn't There?

I humbly submit the Oceans 11 movies, if only because I love Soderbergh's commentaries. With The Limey and Schizopolis DVDs he somehow made the commentary track into an art form. Amazing. Heck, add to that ANY Soderbergh movie that doesn't have at least a commentary. The man is holding out on us.

THE QUIET MAN-such a beautiful film; such a shitty transfer

Love to see special editions of Hal Ashby's 70's run.

SHAFT & SUPER FLY deserve better too.

The UK version of LA Confidential is both bare bones and comes in a snapper case. It's one of my favourite films and I'd love for their to be a better version released, even one with a proper fucking case would be a start.

All I really need as far as special features go is an audio commentary and, in the case of apatow films, deleted scenes and improv. If a film's got a decent commentary and a good transfer, I'm happy.

The Conversation
One of the greatest movies ever, and yet such a shitty dvd release.

Or a good documentary, ala 30 Days in Hell from The Devil's Rejects.

Off the top of my head:

The Game
Menace II Society
Grosse Pointe Blank
Kill Bill v.1, v.2
Grindhouse
(theatrical cut)

There's probably a gajillion more, but I'm tired.

Are you chaps going to be getting the version that us American wankers are getting in September?

Ralph Bakshi's LORD OF THE RINGS with a commentary by Bakshi, as well as some featurettes. Most desireable would be the option to watch the film with the original high-contrast 16mm film stock. Stills have been published, and Bakshi says it's hilarious to watch.

Beetlejuice

The Jerk needs some love. The ukulele lessons on the special edition is just offensively bad. Even Steve Martin's shittier movies don't deserve an extra feature like that .

Thunderbolt And Lightfoot
Escape From L.a.
Abyss

Grosse Point Blanke
The Exorcist and south park: longer, bigger, uncut( still have the flipper)
Mimic (heard there was going to be a directors cut)
The Crow
Titanic- the heart of the ocean documentry ( there was supposed to be a 3 hour making of the film but Cameron took it of at the last minute)
