The Dangerous Depths of the IMDB Boards

I am so sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I just watched Bug again and wanted to check out what IMDB had on it, and I came across this insane bullshit on the movie's message board. If this doesn't perfectly illustrate both the depths the IMDB boards can plumb and the concept of a philistine, I don't know what does.

1. The entire movie was filmed basically in a run-down motel. There's no diversity in the setting.
2. The movie misleads you into thinking Peter is telling the truth, when infact he is insane.
3. There are no "Bugs", which is what everyone was expecting.
4. It's boring, draggy, and the climax doesn't happen until the film is almost over.
5. Things you want to happen don't, which usually isn't the case.
6. The main characters are just killed off at the end. It felt rushed.

That's why the movie got a six. Personally, I gave it a three. It's just not interesting enough. If you want something with plot twists, confusing storylines, and irrelevant things that have meaning, read a book.
Christ. Not only did he just display an insane level of stupidity and revelry in it, he slagged BOOKS as a medium. As I was constructing the quote I noticed he's named himself after a character from Eddy Murphy's Nutty Professor to top it all off. God help us all.

What shit have you guys found on those boards? Usually there's some thread asking or debating whether or not a filmmaker is racist because one of his characters is. I've even seen someone ask if the director/star of that 'Rubber Johnny' video is gay because he showed his penis in it. I've heard of some guy claiming Father of the Bride Part II is the greatest movie ever made, but haven't been able to find it. Maybe I'll try looking again.

EDIT: I wanted to add that I'm well aware many of the people there could be full of shit and fucking with everybody, but the sheer volume of idiots means enough of them are legit that it's still a scary place.

I like the way he listed all the reasons I liked Bug as reasons not to like Bug. He's like Bizarro Me.

He's more like Bizarro sane or Bizarro rational.

The IMDB boards are a half-step above YouTube comments, if that. The stupidity is almost overwhelming. I can't hang with it. If I'm there I'm looking for specific information and a rapid exit.

I say, that fool is simply too ignorant to understand the complexity of that pretty good film.

Thats why I came here instead of joining IMDB permanently. Too many faux-ivy league self-important assholes.

Persoanlly, I found a guy there on a board for Y Tu Mama Tambien, and he stated that "Latin People" would never enegage in such behavior as they have "dignity beyond that of Anglo-Saxons."He then went on to trace his ancestors all the way back to spain. I just cut him down with one sentence,"You fuckin' prude.". Immature but true.

I hang out on IMDB fairly often but have no plans to join the boards. The level of idiocy is too strong just reading the beginnings of people's comments.

Irrelevant things that have meaning? Seriously?

When I was buying Bug the girl behind the counter said, "Uh oh, you don't want that." I said, "Yes, I do. It's a great movie." She said, "I think you're confused. Everyone hates that movie. It's a piece of shit. You should get something else."

It wasn't as bad as the girl behind the counter when I bought Idiocracy. "Did you watch this? It's not funny. Our country could never end up like that. That's just offensive."

One of the girls at Amoeba told me she hated The Wire while I was picking up Season five. I was shocked. Her reasons for not liking it were terrible. I think she said she didn't like the violence.

This deserves its own thread. Employees with bad taste who try to kill a sale. Amoeba is this weird anomaly because they have hipster employees, not film or music geeks.

Oh, and my favorite... I know a few people in Los Angeles that have had employees discourage them from buying movies they wrote or directed. It's unbelievable.

Yeah, I sort of gave up on Amoeba the time that one of their scruffier trucker-capped employees told me to forget looking for a used copy of Seven Samurai Criterion and pick up Master of the Flying Guillotine.

Flying Guillotine's amusing and all, but fuck him for trying to discourage me from Seven Samurai. I should have kicked him in the balls so hard that his dad would have a coronary.

But most people who work jobs like that have horrible taste, so I don't ever get too bothered by it. Usually it explains why they're working there.

All I care abut is having relationship with the dudes at the buy counter so they give me more money for my trade-in's.

When I bought Cannibal Holocaust at Borders the cute girl at the register looked it over and said "Oh, ew! I saw this a few weeks ago in college, at a screening! It's disgusting!" She said it in a kinda amused way instead of bimbo way, so it was cute.

And when I bought The Devil's Advocate last week at Best Buy the (also) cute girl was scanning the purchases (as in the bar code) and when she got to that one she spent like two whole minutes reading the back and looking the pictures over. It's like she forgot I was even there. Then I had to tell her that the girl in the pictures is Charlize Theron and explain to her how she wasn't Nicole Kidman.
