Fantastic Contraption

It's a physics-based puzzle game with a simple goal but a surprising amount of depth. You have to get the pink shape into the pink box, and you do that by constructing a machine to carry, push or throw it there. Machines can be made out of a mixture of wheels and hinged supports, with the only limitation being the amount of space they're allowed to take up. Then once it's built you click "Start" and watch the thing come to life and see whether it achieves it's goal or hilariously turns itself inside out while rolling off the nearest cliff.

At first it seems simple, but once I started to experiment and looked at the contraptions others have made I wound up playing through all 20 levels in a day just to see what weird things I could create. You can make anything from tank tracks to catapults to semi-humanoid robots.

You can also save your designs and link people to them, so if you make something interesting post it here.

So it's like The incredible Machine games? I used to love them.

Yeah, it's great. I've spent like the last hour just dicking around trying to make a trebuchet. It's a flash game too, so it's nice and free.

Mission to Mars is eating my soul.

Fuck you Spike, I just lost an hour of my life to that!

It's awesome. Really restores my faith in flash being used for good, not evil.

This is more mechanical engineeringy, whereas The Incredible Machine was more Newtonian. I think adding bouncing balls to this would break my brain.

A better name would have been The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel.

Up the Stairs is eating my soul.

I'm pretty sure there's a better solution than this, but hey, it works:

Takes a few minutes though...

Edit:

This is a very nice solution: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=444300

Amazing.

Yeah, I tried this out a couple of nights ago, and thought it was very cool. I believe Up the Stairs is one that stumped me, too. Definitely intend to revisit it soon.

There are a couple of games similar to this coming to DS in the near future. Hopefully one or both of those will be great.

Thanks for sharing this... I'm supposed to be packing for vacation and I'm playing this damn game!

Glad I did a search, got sent this link from a friend yesterday and it has, indeed, been eating my soul the past 24 hours. I managed to get all the way through Big Ball -- that motherfucker lost over an hour of my damn day -- and managed Awash surprisingly easily. But everything beyond those, holy crap. Unpossible, damn right!

And, like an ass, I never realized there was a save-and-share option.

I fear for my workday.

ETA: Beat the Tube! w/ the Ninja Shimmy.

Four Balls, Down Under, and Back and Forth can felch me.

ETA 2: Four Balls, finally. A little Pinwheel pitch and catch. Christ, I gotta work now.

ETA 3: Goddamn this thing. Down Under, whiplashed. I sigh, and ETA 4: Sweet, I thought it lost my first attempt at a whiplash (that I couldn't replicate).
