Batman: Arkham Asylum - Page 10

The only technical glitch I came across (on 360) is that my system sound cut out once while playing. That's only ever happened to me a couple of times with Rock Band 2 as well. Since that point though, it hasn't happened, even after extended playing period, and it doesn't seem to happen with any other games.

When he called the Batwing and it dropped off the package I was sure it was going to be a Bat-jetpack. The Batline was pretty disappointing at that point.

I ended up having to do a system restore on my PS3 so I could even play it again. And even then, it still freezes up occasionally. I think there's something wonky in the game code.
Thanks Don, I thought I was going nuts. I wonder if the publisher is aware of any issue and do they have any plans to fix. I'm tired of rebooting every 4 to 5 minutes trying to play the game.

I've already been spoiled on what that encounter entails. And you're right - in my case I'm not gonna know if it's the game or the Scarecrow messing with me.

So, I'm about an hour in, and so far it's jaw droppingly awesome. I'm just waiting for the suck to begin.

**maybe it won't?
I wish you had the option to say "I may not kill you, but I don't have to save you" to that thug hanging onto the ledge for his life above the room full of Joker gas.

Then you let him fall.
This game needed some smoke bombs. Just when I'm surrounded, and feel like stunning a few people all in one shot quickly.

That or just exit a scene in style.

Letting them fall? When fighting Ivy, I tried to push the guard into the ravine so I didn't have to deal with them.

Next game better give me more options on what to carry. Using the multiple batcaves on Gotham, it would add some stratagem to a more open ended game (if they went that route).

I'm still wondering how he built that Batcave on Arkham. There isn't a lot of stuff there, but it'd take crews to put into place all of the metal scaffolding and platforms wouldn't it?

Stealth minigame opportunity missed.

At the end of the game when I had to grapple up to the elevated pump station in the old sewer, I knocked a thug out the hole in the side to his doom on accident. I was pretty pleased with myself.

I have had absolutely ZERO problems on my PS3 whatsoever. (I have the original 60 gig, but I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it)

And some of my friends are saying the same thing. They haven't had any issues with their PS3s either. This past Saturday when I ended up doing the system restore on my PS3, my friend brought over his PS3 and we tried it on his. Same problem. Game kept freezing up.

Not really sure why it's affecting some and not others, but I'm seeing enough complaints between some of my friends and folks online to know that it's certainly not an isolated incident or two.

The only odd thing that occured on my PS3 is the load times. I had no load times whatsoever when opening doors or moving to new areas while playing the story mode, but after completing the story mode and searching for the leftover riddler trophies on the island, there'd be a little spinning bad symbol in the corner for about 3-5 seconds before Batman opened the door.

I'm 1/2 way through my second play-through and no loading.

Wonder why that only happens after the story is complete.

By the way...

60+ combo
Rumble in the Jungle
Round 2

Was on my way to 70 when some fiend ripped something off the wall and chucked it at me from behind.

Also - this is a minor annoyance - when my combo meter reaches over 55 or so, the numbers stop showing. What the hell?

Beating the two Titan freaks at the same time with those other goons was a bitch and a half. The final boss was a heck of a lot easier.

Wasn't Blue Beetle supposed to have a cameo or something in this game?

Almost half the stuff in that place was probably from Wayne Enterprises. Hell, it's entire security system was for sure. It's not implausible that he and Fox worked some $millionaire$ magic to make that happen.

"Spelunking..."
Makes me wonder if Wayne Enterprises is going to lose the Arkham contract, because not only did the security system fail (though it was an inside job), Batman of all people could crack all of the force fields.

I forsee many lawsuits from the families of the guards and other personnel that died that night.
Batman "of all people"? If you have a force field, it's kind of assumed it's not going to stop Batman.
The best combo I've gotten so far is 16. I fucking suck at being Batman. JUST entered the Arkham Batcave. I'm a little behind the rest of you, but I'm taking my time looking around and just enjoying being the GDBM.

GODDAMN BATMAN! Return your Geek ID's please.

What did Batman ever do to you?

He secretly built a Batcave under my fuckin' house.
Well you know, you don't technically own the property UNDER your lawn. Maybe he does?
I guess I could have worse tenants underground. I do live in Springfield, after all.

Just realized there's a Mr. Freeze nod in the holding area with the electric floors that you lock Harley up in.
Did you look at it long and hard?

Two-Face also has a cell in one of the areas.

Yeah, it's hard to miss if you're bothering with the riddles since one is based around that cell. I also liked getting the Riddler Trophy in that area with Harley calling you stupid for falling into her trap, and then getting mad when you get out.

Does anybody know who the one looney is who stays locked up? When all of the crazies get released there's one guy who remains in his cell making lots of weird breathing noises upstairs. You can go look through the plexiglass and see him, but it seems odd for him to be some random kook who happens to be the only random kook stuck in his cell. Is he some sort of cameo that I didn't recognize?

Speaking of which, did anybody else feel a little bit guilty about piledriving all the lunatics who came at you? Beating up the thugs was all fun and good, but smacking around the mentally ill before they can start riding your head like a monkey didn't exactly have the same feeling of satisfaction.

YES. Yes it did.
I'm kind of amazed that some sort of professional psychiatrist/psychologist association didn't use the game as a platform to complain about the depiction of people with mental disorders.

"They don't swing from light fixtures and yell like that, they just rub their own shit into their hair and assault orderlies when we're not doping them to the gills! This is an outrage!"
I do like that Batman apparently has no qualms with the fact that inmates in an asylum that Bruce Wayne helps fund are kept in cages with their eyes propped open and metal clamps around their jaws for no discernible reason.

Should be the contest winner.
Well, he does sit on the Board. Maybe the clamps were his idea. Getting pummeled night after night probably dulls your sense of sympathy.

Maybe Arkham was Joker-proofing.

And im done! What a great game, easily earns the "best comic book game" award in my book.
Having minor OCD helped collect and solve all of Riddler's challenges (Even got to solve the real, final Arkham mistery), but missed on the "Party Pooper" achievement.
Funniest moment so far has to be talking to the two guards Ivy controlled after defeating her; "I had a crazy dream were I was fighting you!" seems a bit weird considering I fucking broke that same guy's leg in three parts while he was possesed.
Damn satisfying game, and it wont get traded in, despite not much replay value...I can see myself replaying it from scratch just to get a Batman fix.
Started working on some challenge rooms last night, just long enough to get my 40 hit combo. It's maddening how I can get to 20 hit combos with regularity but 40 seems worlds different. So many combos messed up by little things. Sometimes a guy pulls something off the wall and chucks it at you, sometimes you're flowing like crazy and aim an attack at a guy and your guy decides to launch in a totally different direction and attack the dude with the shock baton instead, sometimes a knife thug is in a crowd and you don't see he's a knife thug until he's blocked an attack and destroyed your free flow. All in all I was pretty proud to hit 40 and can't even imagine 60+.
Do they up the amount of fuckheads in each Challenge Room? Like room 5, is there 30 guys going at you? I haven't gone past the first room, so I'm askin'.
Yes, and they add in gun lockers (which alarm when they are being accessed), shock baton users, and knife users. But it doesn't get nearly as big as 30. Maybe 10, plus 2 Titans is the most you'll face.
Finally finished this the other day and I have to agree that the final fight is a disappointing way to end the game. Still, I quite enjoyed most of the game and am looking forward to seeing another.

You have to love our messed up expectations. It's barely been out a week and we think of it as "finally" finishing it.
Well, I played it every day for over a week, so to me that's 'finally.'

My bro was watching me play through last night and he mentioned how much the Riddler sounded like David Cross, now I can't help thinking of Tobias Funke covered in green face and body paint prancing around Arkham. Godamnit!

Even better: IMDB the actual voice actor, Wally Wingert. He's hilarious. Looks like a lost Spinal Tap drummer. Great guy, though. I met him a couple times - the first is when he used to be Beetlejuice in some stage show for Universal theme park way back. lol
post #497 of 843
On a whim I decided to download the demo for my PC after having played through the game on my PS3 and holy crap does it look about 1000x better. I have a fairly beefy PC (at least by last year's standards) and I was amazed at how much better it looked. It's almost enough to make me think about getting a really long HDMI cable to occasionally do some gaming on my TV.

That said, trying to get used to the controls with a mouse and keyboard was tough. I think this game was definitely designed to be played with a game pad.

Also, I've convinced myself that one of the henchman voices is done by John Di Maggio. I'd swear about 1/4 of the time that one of those guys sounds exactly like Bender on Futurama.
Spoilers below:

Just before the final (I think ) run in with scarecrow where the beginning replays with you as the joker, is the screen supposed to get all blocky and wierd, like your 360 was about to die? Great scene, but it freaked me out a lot more than it should have for that reason alone.
Yeah, it's party of the game. I imagine it would be a good scare for XBOX owners.
