Batman: Arkham Asylum - Page 17

I actually found it even better in mono on a black and white TV.

No, a glide kick doesn't fulfill the requirement to get the three bat symbol/prizes. I'll look up the specific challenge later tonight, but when you enter the challenge you can hit the select button and it will tell you what is necessary to achieve the tasks...
Huh. I can't remember the various moves off the top of my head, but is it a silent takedown where you just sneak up behind someone? Sorry that I can't be of more help to ya...
I thought I was getting pretty good playing through a couple of the challenges without getting hit. Then I saw this, and I've pretty much given up...

Very impressive. Looks like a big part of the method is to keep flipping about. Watching this makes me want to replay it, but I barely have time to keep up with new games and play them once.

Nice use of recent Batman movie music too.

That actually isn't the Begins/Dark Knight score at all, they just made one that sounds a lot like it.

I really need to give the game another try. I hit a difficulty roadblock about a third of the way in, the room in the water pump station where you've got to take out waves of goons and titans. Just couldn't get past it no matter what I did, which is a shame because I loved the exploration/riddle solving aspects of the game. It's probably my fault for starting up on the hardest difficulty.

That bit was a fucking bitch on the hardest setting. Take solace in the fact that the game isn't really that hard again.
What about the final fight before the Joker? I'd argue that it was a harder room.

Motion seconded.
Motion thirded...

Up to that point on hard it was like, 'its not that much harder other than the spidey sense for incoming hits being removed', and then 5 retries later, sunovabitch!

I don't think I'm going to make it through a Hard Run. I started one two days ago, made it to Bane, and I'm already having a hard time. I don't think I'd have the patience to try something like the Poison Ivy boss fight on hard (which I had a difficult enough time with on Normal), so I'm satisfied with my Normal Run, wherein I got all the Riddler Challenges.

And an extra 50 points to my gamer score probably isn't worth the frustration.

I actually had a much easier time on that room. I think because it's far more open than the other one is and it made it easier to move around and avoid attacks. I think I died like twice doing that room on hard, compared to the countless times I died in the room Spike was talking about.

Stupidly I left it to my hard playthrough to get the "Party Pooper" achievement. Holy fuck that was hard.

I had the same problem. I did find on my hard run through that the explosive gel was really handy in the water pump room and in that Party Pooper hallway. Just do a bit of floor preparation with the gel in areas where people will walk (ie in front of the elevator things, and right down the middle of the hallway).

Once the rumble starts, the gel will usually stun a good 3-5 goons giving you enough time to take out either them, or the people left behind. So you don't have to deal with them all together.

I didn't think you could flip more than once and keep the combo going. I certainly couldn't come close to that combo, but I didn't even know that room existed as a challenge. No shock batons, no knives, nothing for the thugs to throw, that shit is made for a freeflow.

Yeah, but the hardest part of it is the crazy inmates who jump on your back. I think there's a reason they don't show up in any other challenge. I'd rather face the other guys...

Bit of backstory: So, my friends and I had a little get together last weekend since the weather had turned around. My friends were there, their friends, etc. And they're all involved in one way or another in the video game industry. Most of them work/ed for Sony in Foster City.

Anyway, so I'm talking my buddy who I hadn't seen in a while about Arkham Asylum and he tells me that the sequel is going to be awesome. I say I hope so and all that. And he says,"No. It is."

He asks me if he wants to spoil it for me. I said hell yes, I want to know.

The Point: He tells me they're going to "borrow a lot from" The Long Halloween and "work it around what they have set up" which is a huge section of Gotham is sort of quartantined off like you've seen in the teaser. Harvey Dent/Two-Face will be featured prominently. After that he refused to say more and would not answer any of my questions, the bastard, after teasing me like that.

I guess you guys can take it with a grain of salt, but I completely trust this dude. Granted this is coming from a friend from a friend from the UK, you know? Hell, even if it's just playful misdirection on his part, I think it's the right direction they should go in.

Personally I think it's a great idea.
Sounds very cool - I loved the first, and having some action in Gotham proper would be great.

Ask him about Robin. God I hope he's not in it. Unless I get to play as the Joker and beat him to death with a crowbar.

Got around to finally playing the copy I got for Christmas, and I spent most of Friday and some of saturday playing this awesome game. It was just REALLY fun. I liked the stealth missions, as they reminded me of Manhunt, except I'm Batman and have the grapple gun.

Can't wait for the sequel to come out. This is a game that certainly lived up to the hype.
It's a fantastic game - the environment, exploration, fighting, stealth, cool gadgets - everything works.

I'm deep into a Dragon Age replay right now - but after that I'll replay this.
I've been playing through Arkham Asylum again. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the story mode, and I've been trying to get high scores in all the combat challenge rooms I didn't finish the first time around.

Last night I FINALLY got the achievement for getting a perfect combo that uses all of Batman's moves and gadgets. I can't count how many times I would get a great combo going only to have it ruined at the last second by pressing the wrong button or getting hit by a thug I didn't see. Feels great to have finally gotten it.

Now I just need to get the six more bat symbols in the challenges I have left. Unfortunately for me, that means I have to get a giant score on both Shock & Awe levels. I hate that freaking room! It's too small, too crowded, and there's a time limit!
As much as I like the game, the last hour, on Hard, really felt like pulling teeth. Everything from fighting the Titan in the control room, to Ivy, through the twin Titans and up to the final boss felt more like a war of attrition than anything else.
I'm still not sure if I even want to attempt the game on hard or not. Getting that achievement would be nice, but I'm sure it would come with more than a few headaches.
Hey, maybe you get all new achievements with the Game of the Year edition in 3D!
I decided to replay this too. There's no fucking way I could do this on hard. I barely ever get over a 10 hit combo.

And the INCEPTION soundtrack you should have already bought goes wonderfully with this game.
Just started a new thread for the sequel Batman: Arkham City.
I'm currently playing Alpha Protocol and it made me think: the development team behind Arkham Asylum could make a great Jason Bourne game.
So I finally have a complaint about Arkham Asylum...I've reached a point in the game I cant get past on Normal...why the fuck is there not an option to change the difficulty in the game once you've started. I dont feel like playing through again just to get past this point.
What part are you stuck on?
This is going to sound pathetic...but I cant get past the first 7 enemies in Intensive Treatment when going after Killer Croc. The part where the gargoyles are mined by Joker.
Not pathetic - that part's tough. It's been a while, but I think you can use the center of the roof of the large building in the center as a hiding spot, and pick them off that way.
Is there a way to get back into the penitentiary after the plants cover everything? There's still a lot of stuff I need to get in there.

I'll give that a try then.
grubsteerer, your advice about that part worked perfectly. I just stood up on the roof of that center building and used batarangs and batclaw to take out the armed baddies.
Excellent. Don't take any crap from those clowns!
It was aggravating trying to do it the "correct" way sneaking around to take them out. It was so much easier just to stand on the office in the middle and do it that way.
Just finished this game a few days ago, and that part IS a bitch. I remember getting so close to doing it the "proper" way (hunting them down one by one), only to get pumped full of lead while in the middle of one of those silent takedown animations by the last inmate left standing. I eventually took out the first guy at the vent, sprayed some of that explosive gel on his body, grappled back into the vent, set it off, and quickly took out the disoriented guards. Kind of cheap, but still Batman-y in a way.
You can explosive gel knocked out inmates?

As James Coburn once said, Man, that's just mean.
I was just that pissed. Besides, Detective Vision said he was alive, unless Batman programmed that thing to tell him what he wants to believe so that he can feel like he's living up to his code while dishing out vicious beatings and spraying explosives onto people.

I played all the way through twice and I also did not know that. Pretty cool.

Yeah, you can set a trap using explosive gel on knocked out foes. One of the explosive gel upgrades is for Proximity detonation of the gel when someone goes near it.

If I remember correctly, you actually have to do this to get one of the achievements/trophies in one of the extreme predator levels...

I just finished the story mode for the third time this weekend, this time on the hard difficulty level. By far, the fight I had the most trouble with is the elevator fight with one titan and a bunch of goons in that tiny room. I can't count how many times I was killed by a flurry of cheap shots or because Batman decided to get caught in a doorway when I was trying to dive out of the way of the charging titan. The Ivy fight was damned easy, the fight with the two titans wasn't too difficult because the room is large enough to maneuver in, and the Joker fight was only slightly annoying (due more to the locked camera than anything).
