Toronto Film Festival '08

So I'm thinking about getting up there for the first time, and I was hoping to take advantage of the experiences of more seasoned festival-goers. Right now I'm looking at this site http://www.tiff08.ca/boxofficeinfo/t...s/default.aspx. It offers 10 tickets and a chance to choose your movies ahead of the general public (pending a lottery) for a bit more than $150. So is there any advice anyone wants to drop? Movies to really watch out for? And though I'm kind of reluctant to do the internet meet-up thing (bad experience with an unmarked van), we could talk about that too.

I'm not going, wish I could, but personally here's what I'd be looking at for movies (ten tickets meaning you get to pick ten movies right?):

The Brothers Bloom
Che
The Good, The Bad, The Weird
Me and Orson Welles
Miracle at St. Anna
Religulous
RockNRolla
Synecdoche New York
The Wrestler
Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Thanks for the suggestions, and you're right, 10 tickets for ten movies if you wanted. Great deal I think.

And don't sweat the van, Toronto's public transit is pretty good.

Isn't The Road going to debut there? If so, that's definitely one to check out.

So I'm going to Toronto this week, and I was wondering if anybody from the area would be willing to give some recommendations for good places to eat, drink, see etc. I'm really looking forward to getting down there.

Head down Spadina between College and Dundas for terrific Chinese and Vietnamese food. College St. west of Bathurst St. has many Italian restaurants. Bloor St., west of Spadina, is great for Korean, Sushi, and various pubs. A lot of great restaurants downtown. Hope you enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the recommendations. I actually went to a few places on Spadina. Toronto was a lot of fun (maybe a little too much, I spent most of Sunday nursing an insanely brutal hangover). Wouldn't mind staying there for longer next time.

Did you end up checking anything out at TIFF? I've got tickets to see Aronofsky's new flick tomorrow afternoon, but it doesn't look like I'll have time to watch anything else. Would love to watch some of the short film showcases. Maybe next year.

Any reviews from this year's lineup?
