The "Chewer's choices for Live Arcade/PSN/VC releases" Thread (Wishful thinking)

So, seeing "Soul Calibur", "BC:Rearmed" and "Megaman 9" being released got me thinking that there's a LOT of money to make here by companies by releasing old/classic/out of print games that have cult followings; Ive proffesed my desire to see "Strider" or "Marvel Vs Capcom" re-released several times on the boards, so Id like to know everyone's top choices here...its all wishful thinking, but maybe, just maybe one of will get lucky in the future.
My starting pick? "Guardian Heroes", goddammit, Treasure/Sega/homever owns the rights to it, if you gave us "Sin and Punishment" on the VC, you sure can get a port of GH on live/psn ASAP, you selfish bastards.!

I'd love to see some old Commodore 64 games.

Raiden Project. My favorite top-down space shooter ever.

Rocket Jockey from the PC, circa '96. You rode around on rockets that could marginally steer. So to really turn, you shot grappling hooks out the side of your rocket (ROCKET!) and swung around pylons. Oh, and you could clothesline opponent with these. It was so awesome.

Journey to Sililus, Day of the Tentacle

I wonder if Descent would be cool anymore?

You pretty much read my mind on all counts, ryoken. Guardian Heroes is one of my all time favorites.

And it'll never happen due to licensing issues, but Capcom's side-scrolling Dungeons & Dragons beat-em-ups (Shadow Over Mystara in particular) would be so awesome. Any of Capcom's beat-em-ups or their Disney platformers, really, especially DuckTales.

Simpsons: The Arcade Game.

Seriously, how has it not been ported yet?
Rights bullshit probably. But that was probably the best Simpsons Game. I do remember having a shitty PC version of the game. Just not the same.

And I second Ducktales.

How was that level a bitch? The bitch was trying get the ending where Scroogs sat on a giant pile of money as opposed to just having that chest he was jumping in front of.
I concur on Strider, Simpsons arcade and Ducktales.

How about the old X-Men and Aliens arcade games from the early 90s?
I'd rather like a Virtual Console release of Terranigma.
Hell, the entire Soul Blazer trilogy wouldn't hurt.
I'd like to see all the early Squaresoft games like FF1-6 and Chrono Trigger be released as Live Arcade games with achievements. I know it won't happen because of Nintendo's rights, but Live Arcade would benefit from having those classics on the marketplace.

Ducktales: I just want the soundtrack.

These choices are weak. Where's X:Wing/Tie Fighter? Where's X:Men Arcade? Simpsons Arcade? Dungeons and Dragons Arcade? Final Fight? Bring on the air/space combat sims and sidescrolling beat 'em ups, please.

Where, in the name of all that is just and righteous, is my VC port of Zombies Ate My Neighbors? Where, dammit, where?!
The list begins with Goldeneye.
I may be one of the only people who couldn't care less about never playing GoldenEye again.
I would love to see a sick Next-Gen version of Marvel vs. Capcom.

But, in terms of games being remade. I'd love to see Hudson's Adventure Island, Marble Madness and Clash at Demonhead get reworked for the modern systems ala Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

I would pray for your soul, but you obviously lack one.

Maybe I'd enjoy it more now if I wouldn't have to use the N64's horrendous controller.

I'm rather pissed Nintendo isn't allowing the NES Bionic Commando on the VC. I read it on Kotaku last week, but they didn't go into details. That's fucked up.

I second(or 5th) the Capcom Disney games. Rescue Rangers was pretty great too.
Capcom's sitting on a pile of gold, so is Konami(where the fuck is the first Contra?). I don't know why they aren't releasing more stuff. It can't be that hard, can it? Unless Nintendo is being a cock like with the Bionic Commando thing(most likely answer). I'd love to be playing the NES versions of Legendary Wings and Little Nemo the Dream Master right now. Hell, I even have fond memories of that game Trojan.

Is Guardian Heroes a sequel to Gunstar Heroes? Any relation?

Guardian and Gunstar are both made by Treasure, but where Gunstar is a shoot 'em up, Guardian is a beat 'em up.

Konami put Contra and Super C as unlockables on Contra 4. Contra is a two hour game (if that) and holds up as well as James Brady. I can't imagine people paying $6 for that.

Hey, facts are facts, Contra doesn't hold up.
If length was a qualifier for awesomeness, yeah, it'd fail. But given my experience in dealing with things that don't quite measure up in length or overall size I can pretty confidently say that so long as that short length is used well, that's what really counts.

My lame attempts at humor aside, I'd much rather pay five bucks for Contra on the VC than the 15 they'd probably charge for GoldenEye. Contra still stands as a pretty great example of a classic action shooter/platformer whereas GoldenEye just feels horribly dated now when compared to other FPSes.
Length plays a role when the game is very easy (I was shocked about how easy it was) and is finished in a blink of an eye. It feels like an extended demo.

GoldenEye's mechanics are still great, compared to modern FPSers.

Kid Fucking Icarus y'all.

It's on the VC.

i also second the simpsons arcade game. so much fun.
Both the SNES (more fun overall) and the Genesis (the Matrix was awesome) versions of Shadowrun.

Godammit, Gites, the D&D arcade games (along with Alien vs Predator) would be awesome, specially with online multiplayer, headset support and bonus content.
Shit, id even settle for Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
post #36 of 51
I'd kill a barrel full of puppies for Marvel vs. Capcom.
Atari's "Custer's Revenge" with online Co-op and deathmatch needs to be done asap.
just cause nintendo is never going to get around too it

an Earthbound update would be great

or some battletoads would be even better

and contra was awsome. if one of the hardest games EVER!

I don't own a DS, and I prefer the NES versions of Contra and Super C to the arcade ones(available on LIVE Arcade), and my NES is as dead as can be.

I still think it's a great game, and I've probably played Super C more than any of the other VC games I've downloaded save for Mario 64. The Contra series(never played the Playstation Contras) is one I love to play over and over and watch myself get better. A long time ago I could beat Contra and Contra III without dying. My skills have deteriorated quite a bit, but I can once again beat Super C with only a handful of lives. More than anything, the tiny D-pad on the Wii remote fucks me over.

That was my long-winded way of saying yeah, I think Contra is worth 5 bucks, and I have no idea why they released the sequels to the VC first.

Castlevania Rondo of Blood, goddammit.

Currently available as an unlockable on the Rondo remake/update for the PSP, as well as Symphony of the Night.

I would ike to see The Real Ghostbusters arcade game made available, as well as the original TMNT arcade game (which I think was an unlockable on one of the TMNT games for the Game Cube).

Edited because capitalization is good for America, kids.

The TMNT arcade game is available on XBOX Live.

I bought it with leftover MS points; its not nearly as good as I remember it being.

OK, Castlevania Rondo of Blood on a system I actually want.

I was thrilled to find out Contra was an unlockable. As I played through the game, I was shocked at a) how easy it was b) how short it was. It'd sell well, but there would be a ton of disappointed people.

Yep, X-Wing and TIE Fighter, definitely. I'd also love to play SUPER Tecmo Bowl, not just Tecmo Bowl like the Wii VC has.
I would still love to see the Arcade version of Killer Instinct. CCCCCOOOMMMBBBOOOOO BREAKER!!!!

Any programmers out there have any idea why we have seen so few (are there any?) computer to Xbox Live conversations? Shouldn't the 360 be able to easily handle a Dos/Windows game without much conversion (if any)?

Maybe all the copyright holders are defunct.
The hardware is more than powerful enough, it's just the difference in architecture where things become a big screwy mess. It's a pain in the ass to even get old DOS games to run on a current gen PC without using emulation like VirtualPC and DOSBox; making them run on a 360 would essentially require coding a different emulator for each game you want to release, since the hardware capable of running a specific game with 99% stability would be wildly different for each game. Or recoding the game from scratch for 360 hardware, at which point you're better off just spending the development time and money making a brand new game.

I say capitalize on the "Olympic Fever Which Is Gripping The Nation" and give us Summer Games, Winter Games and World Games. And a cheapass Atari joystick so I can do the track and field.
