Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade
We've been asked about this for a long time, we've had fans pleading with us for some sort of announcement or information. Well, today is the day!

We're very pleased to announce that "Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade" will be coming to your Xbox 360 console soon!

As has been reported around the net today, we can confirm that the game has indeed passed final certification with Microsoft on Friday the 15th of August (on our first try, no less). That means the game is done - it is now in the hands of Microsoft. At this time we cannot give you details on release date or points cost, as we do not have that information. There's plenty of really cool stuff in this new update to a classic title. While we're not quite ready to divulge everything yet, we can tell you this.

There is a preview available now in the October 2008 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine. This issue of the magazine is hitting subscribers' mailboxes starting today, and will be available on newsstands in a few days. Some of the folks from the Official Xbox Magazine have been playing it, and have written up a preview about the game and their thoughts on the game, having played it. You definitely won't want to miss that.

Look for online previews of the game to start appearing on August 26th. We're really excited about this release - and we hope you will be too! More info on the way - stay tuned!

Can a Redneck Rampage release be far behind?
Fuck that. Blood. Flare gun owns all.

How bout Heretic? I played the shit out of that game when it was released on PC.

Blood would be cool too. One of the last build engine games, right?

Only played Heretic 2 but I wouldn't turn up my nose at trying the first one.

Don't you mean Hexen? There wasn't an actual Heretic 2 was there?

I have such amazing memories of networking nights with all of these games. Killing a friend while I was a chicken and as a pig in Heretic and Hexen were some of the funniest things ever.

They should also port over Rise of the Triad. Horrible single player game but I'd never had as much fun playing multiplayer as I had on that.

Heretic 2 existed, and it was fucking awesome, at least as a multiplayer game. 3rd person melee combat with staffs that would behead your opponent with a geyser of blood. Cool magic spells, both offensive and defensive. I played it for quite a few months back then. 10 years ago? Christ, I'm old.

Geez, cant believe i had forgotten all about Heretic 2. The multi was amazing. I remember always getting in the line to fight with the best person in the various pits with everyone watching over. Before each fight we would to this downward sword thrust with the spear to signal the ready. I was such a geek for the game i begged some dude to make a custom skin for my char.

Details- http://chud.com/articles/articles/16...DAY/Page1.html

That replay feature's got me mighty intrigued.
Seriously, fuck checkpoints. Every game needs the rewind feature.

I can guarantee you that I'm not picking this one up. After my friend picked up Doom and how little we played that, I'm done with old-ass retro FPS games on XBLA. I think I'll be picking up Mega Man 9 instead.

Duke Nukem 3D is like 50x better than Doom.
I'm kinda annoyed its not the original game remade to be a little friendly on the HD generation, but I figure that'd have been more than $10 worth of effort, so it's nice to see the extra work that did go into it.

Saying that, even though its better than Doom - I still own my original Duke 3D copies from way back with the Starship Troopers mod. Won't pay for it again.
Yeah, I think I've got the Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition sitting around in a box somewhere. Probably next to Starcraft and my Quest For Glory collection.
Having never heard of this game, I certainly hope they release a demo before I spend my hard-earned ten dollars on something that looks like it was programmed by heathens. And disparaging the police? Inexcusable.

I CAN'T WAIT.
They should have released a pack of the old side scrollers with this.
They have demos for every single XBLA game, so I doubt this will be the exception.

Plus, if you missed the trailer- it's up in high def on the MCP Youtube page- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoKwshsnzCc
post #25 of 65
Any chance there will be a version I can download to my PC (or play on Xbox) without signing up for Xbox Live?

That would have been excellent. Especially if they'd been given at least a little next-gen treatment.

They'd have (have have have) to keep the PC Speaker sound effects, though.
This might seem silly to ask in regards to a ten dollar game,

but will this release have 4 player split screen death match and possibly 2 player split screen co-op?

There was nothing as much fun as duking it out in duke nukem with four players on four computers next to each other. the n64 4 player split screen was fun as weel. Squishing a friend or seeing his bloody torso fly into the sky due to a good rpg shot, never ever got old. I really wish more games would offer the split screen options of yore.
Nope. There's a system link option, though.

As for the game, it's still glorious.

Just spent a while tooling around with it. I'm in love with both the rewind feature and the player videos feature. Not only can you watch how these crazy bastards finished Hollywood Holocaust in 30 seconds, but you can watch their video and then just take over playing half way through. You can download someone else's video, pause it, and continue playing from that point yourself. That's wicked.

I think I'm gonna have to start my LIVE account back up to get in some Dukematches (might wait until the GTA DLC comes out, though).
Its not available for download in South America, it seems...well, dammit.
Megaman 9 beter be, or else.
More than 10 years later and i can still remember where nearly every secret area is located in the first couple levels.

My plan is to devise a FPS calender so i can actually remember things that matter like birthdays and anniversarys.
This is the reason I will be repurchasing a 360.
I remember so many sleepless nights from playing this game and the Atomic Edition. I played Zero Hour for the 64 as well. I doubt that'd get a Wii release?
Review! http://chud.com/articles/articles/16447/

Game was a helluva lot longer than I remembered. So much goodness.
I actually downloaded the demo for it and it held up much better than I expected. Unfortunately I've played the first sections so many times I even remembered where all the hidden items were. The rewind feature was pretty great too.

I don't understand why they couldn't get the game to render at a higher resolution though, I swear I used to play it on my PC at higher rez. I may pick it up if it ever drops to $5.

Doom was not as good as I remembered. I'd prefer to keep my memories of Duke Nukem pristine, unless a cacophany of overwhelming praise cascades through the Intertron.
I felt the same way, Doom was a big disappointment but I think my lowered expectations helped DN3D do better in the first 2 levels I played.

It's funny that I found myself going for headshots even when there is no hit detection.

Great review Alex. Thinking about Duke has left me with a headscratcher though, can anyone remember the game that came out shortly after that was basically the asian Duke Nukem? You played a wisecracking Samurai or ninja, also a first person shooter, looked almost exactly like Duke?

Pretty sure you're talking about Dai Katana. Suck it down!
Rise of the Triad, maybe? It was also an Apogee title.
Nevermind, found it. I was thinking of Shadow Warrior. Used the same engine as Duke 3D.
Duke 3D used the build engine, right? I'm pretty sure almost all FPS games until Quake (and even afterward) used that fucking engine, so it's tough to identify a game by that.
Again, I figured it out. I remember the thing I was most impressed with at the time was actual transparent water. The game (Shadow Warrior) was actually pretty cheesey, but the advances on the engine were pretty cool.

Was it Rise of the Triad? Maybe Heretic?
It was Shadow Warrior.
Could someone please help Chris Miller figure out what Orient-themed Duke Nukem clone he played?
Sha..shad...ohmygodimlosingmymind!!!!!

It was Shadow Warrior.
Fine. I'll do it myself.

Chris, I'm pretty sure it was this game.
That's the one. Thanks Overlord.
