Radiohead's the exception, not Katy Perry. Although Pitchfork printed a
fairly unbelievable rumor about Lee "Scratch" Perry and a band including Andrew WK and guys from TV on the Radio playing the show, the prospect of which makes Radiohead seem like a pretty conservative choice.
On topic - I saw the new Katy Perry video this morning. The level to which the director holds the audience's hand is hilarious. After it becomes painfully obvious that she's hooked up with a guy she doesn't particularly love when her fella goes off to war, we see said fella get fatally shot in the war. Then we see her receive a letter, which is pretty obvious shorthand for "HE'S DEAD." But things aren't clear enough, apparently. We flash back to soldier guy and his fatal wound. Then we see Katy read the lines "killed in action" on the letter. Then we see her dressed in black.
I'm kind of amazed we didn't get a shot of his halo'ed spirit rising from his body to make sure the point hasn't been missed.
