"I Kissed A Girl" by Kate Perry - Page 2

She was just on Stern this morning, and said she made out with some girl at a bar when she was about 20, and she said she had a "girl-crush" on the ballerina. Said she's never gone any further than that, and has no plans to. She's dating some rapper guy at the moment, and also addressed the "news" that her parents have disowned her--she said her parents were at her last 3 shows, and although they do their own thing, they're very proud of her.

Publicity whore.

The main issue with this song is that the chorus sticks in your brain for hours. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely WILL NOT STOP. EVER. Until you are DEAD.

See, to me, that's the funny thing...I first heard this song before the summer started. And now that it's kind of on a decline on the charts, she's suddenly showing up doing publicity. She was also on "So You Think You Can Dance" like a month ago (I know that purely because my wife watches it), which I thought was especially funny considering it's sort of a "family" show.

You know, most people don't speak well extemporaneously, but that was just awful.

Yeah - Travis McCoy from The Gym Class Heroes. Technically a rapper, but actually...not so much.

I know this only because there's the same lame write-up on these numbnuts in both Blender and Spin this month, highlighted only by the bass player bragging about doing...something...with some semi-famous porn chick, and the fact that McCoy is dating this Perry. The Spin one is a wee bit funnier because the Fall Out Boy lead singer hails him as "a visionary," and it starts out with him bragging to the audience about his recent stint of "sobriety", while drinking copiously and searching for weed on the bus backstage.

I've never heard her song, and every time I hear the Gym Class Heroes, I initially mistake them for the original song they're ripping off (These guys are Diddy-esque in their sampling ingenuity).

Oh, I'm so happy that all of you hate this wretched song too!

I have one friend that is trying to convince me that it's a good song because it pisses Fundamentalists and uptight people off. Oh please, if that is the only criteria you have for 'good' then your musical taste is in some serious trouble.
I absolutely revile this horrible feces passing for a "song". A girl at my job always has the radio on and this gets a lot of play.

One could probably write a compelling little paper/blog post/manifesto about the cultural ramifications of the differences between Sobule's song and Perry's song. Sobule's song was sweet and simple and frank; Perry's is creepy and weird and heavily exhibitionist. Girls who feel the need to proclaim and simultaneously rationalize kissing other girls probably didn't do it right.

Tell your friend to stop listening to heavily marketed capitalistic bullshit.

So...most music and movies and books and everything?

This song sucks so much I'm wondering why we're still talking about it.
Pretty much. Just because it's got a fancy marketing campaign or everyone has/uses/whatever it, doesn't make it good.
I'm trying to think of the last time an insane marketing campaign was used for a relatively new band that actually deserved it. I'm thinking the Beatles. Anyone got any other answers?
It's not even that bad, musically speaking. It doesn't really sound all that different from a lot of songs that somehow manage that mysterious top 40/music snob crossover ("Umbrella," for instance). It's just a mediocre pop song with dumber-than-average lyrical content.
It sounds like a song Sarah Silverman threw away and Miss Perry dug out of her garbage. It's like if Chad Kroeger of Nickelback was a woman and wrote a pop tune. It's like a song Madonna would perform 10 years from now to stay on the charts. It's like....

Nah, it just sucks. Nuff said.

That said, I would toally nail the chick singing the song in the video. She looks nothing like the real Perry. The real Katy looks kinda like Iggy Pop.

gotta confirm this: my thirty or so six year olds have been doing the exact same thing, daily. So weird!

The song kind of pisses me off because it's incredibly catchy which embarrasses me to even admit that, but just how it takes the easy route of what could've been something pretty cool. Either way, I've seen plenty of girls kiss as of late and if it's a result of this song then Katy Perry isn't that useless.

You silly Billy that's the gay conspiracy at work there. Maybe this song is apart of it too.

It may gain traction if more attractive brunettes are advocating females being tongue sluts.

I wonder if a male singer could come out with "I sucked a dick and I liked it!" and have as big a hit as this woman. I'm continually amazed at the double-standard society has in regards to gay men and gay women. I don't get off on watching dudes make out, and I don't get why guys get so hard for girls making out. Shouldn't you be pissed that they aren't making out with YOU?!

She's a one-hit wonder anyway. I listened to some of her other stuff and it's garbage. This time next year, she'll be forgotten.
I haven't been paying attention, but she's got at least two hits.
I like the song a lot but "You're So Gay" is better. Lighten up, nerds.

I'm surprised Bartender (Sittin' At a Bar) by Rehab hasn't been brought up.

Please note: Katy Perry is not gay. Oh, wow, is she not gay. She is a woman who is playing into the belief that women who engage in sexual/romantic acts with one another only do so for the titillation of men and as a temporary amusement before committing to a nice, normal heterosexual relationship. Katy Perry is the opposite of a lesbian.

Yeah, I'm kind of amazed that porn is so big, too. I mean, how can you be turned on watching other people have sex while maintaining a healthy rage that they get to have sex and you're stuck watching them at home??? I'm getting angry just thinking about it.

1) No
2) Apparently so, and we should choke her
3) Yes

Same. That's why I always say that porn needs more physical abuse, otherwise it's no-boner time for me. So depressing.

Now I can't stop laughing at the idea of being out at a bar and looking over to see two dudes blowing each other.

"Man, those guys are going to get all the girls."

Try the decaf, Harley.
Yeah, she said she kissed a girl. It's not "I licked a clit and I liked it." I mean, first of all, it's so unrealistic that someone would like that.

Seriously though, it's pop music--meaningful lyrics are pretty much useless here. I do like this song a hell of a lot more than anything the Pussycat Dolls have ever done. That stupid "When I Grow Up" song is the epitome of annoying.

Another board I am on was just discussing the prevalence of straight women that enjoy gay porn. It is actually quite common.

The year was...I don't really remember what year it was. Whenever that one song of theirs about the sun was popular. They were doing a free performance at a record store here. We were there a little early, kind of milling about in the parking lot where the stage was set up. I decided to go in and browse.

I walk up to the door, open it, and I'm face to face with a guy in a robe. So, I step back and hold the door open for him. He's followed by 25 bajillion other people in robes. I hold the door open for all them, patiently waiting as they all pass by.

NOT ONE THANK YOU.

I'm actually a little bit of a stickler for politeness. It doesn't take much effort to say "please" or "thank you." I held the door for this entire group of stupid jack-offs singing about crayons and kittens and shit, and not one says "thanks." Hey, lead guy! How'd that follow-up album where you all wore the stupid para-military uniforms do, huh? Stupid idiot. Dumb bastard.

That's my Polyphonic Spree story.

Nah, that honestly never crossed my mind. If a girls are kissing, awesome. If it's me that they're making out with then great. Titillation and actually being apart of the action aren't that far away. It all leads to arousal and pleasure in some shape or form.
I won't speak for any of the other guys, but my personal gratification does not hinge on two girls being sexual with each other. Personally, I prefer my porn straight.
I do so enjoy how a 15-minute of fame pop song enrages so many of you.

Ida Maria's - I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked is far more offensive and sexist. Who gives a crap? - it's an equally shitty tune. She just didn't bother to make it about girls being better naked... Damn, that'd have been a winner.
