Sounds awesome. I have honestly never heard of this film, but i'll take your recommendation and pre-order.

Thanks for the head's up. This is one of those films that I saw as a kid and have never managed to shake. You're absolutely right in your synopsis, Alex. The foreboding atmosphere is the film's greatest strength - to this day I can picture the eerily still scarecrow silhouetted against the dusk country skies. Great stuff. I hope it holds up after all these years.

I bet this gets a release because the title is too similar to the Dark Knight. And the Scarecrow is a Batman villain. I foresee a lot of people buying this by mistake.

Sweet news. This one fucked me up real good in my youth.

I kept typing "Dark Knight of the Scarecrow" while writing this, so I could see that.

It's not very well known, so don't feel bad. Definitely a little gem that never got its just dues, though.

Wait... Larry Drake plays a retard? Shocker!

Seriously, that VHS box brings back the memories. I remember seeing that case for soooo many years at my video store, but never rented it. I will be sure to check it out when it comes available.

I have to admit, I'm scared to re-watch this. My memory of watching it when I was a kid is pretty strong...I'm afraid that a new, fresh viewing of this film would diminish the memory.

I like to think his LA LAW audition consisted of him walking into the casting agent's office and tossing a battered VHS copy of DNOTS onto the desk, about-facing with an arrogant smirk, and leaving without saying a word.

I never watched this as a kid but I'm intrigued. But if I hadn't seen it as a kid, would it still be effective? I'm pretty grizzled as horror goes. (Which certainly doesn't mean I don't appreciate atmosphere, etc, and just a well done movie)

I guess the question is, would you recommend it to someone going in fresh?
I haven't seen this in years, but have a soft spot for it, as my brother and I both watched it & liked it as kids. I din't know that I'd necessarily enjoy it now if I was seeing it for the 1st time, but for me, anyway, it's got the nostalgia thing going.

And that can go a long way. I may get a copy for my brother for his birthday. He always liked it more than me.

I haven't seen it in so long and wish I knew. Can't imagine it will have anywhere near the impact on me today that it did back then but I'm hoping the characters are enough to keep things entertaining.

It's always funny to me when nostalgia backfires. I remember LADY IN WHITE freaking me out when I was a kid, so I bought it, watched it, and hated it. Active loathing. It's just so awful.

That's my fear as well. My memories on this film are quite strong...I fear that there's no way that this film could live up to those memories today.

This news, coupled with Trilogy of Terror already being out, means we're just waiting for Don't be Afraid of the Dark getting a DVD treatment to hit the trifecta in made for TV horror films.

I need to see this again just for the ending shot. Haven't seen it since I was 12 or so, but I remember being thoroughly creeped out by it.

Well with DBAOTD remake news recently, it shouldn't be far off.

I'm also waiting for the not-as-good TRILOGY OF TERROR 2.

Larry Drake! Read this just as I was settling in to watch Dr. Giggles. Fucking DVD froze on me. Thanks, Netflix. Is Dr. Giggles any good?

Oh, please, Oh please. . . . !

As far as made-for-tv horror goes, everyone always forgets about the Stone Tape.
Granted, it's not exactly common, but nontheless...

Yep! Hellua lot campier than I remembered as a kid, but you can't go wrong with the Drake. And you won't be able to get that damn giggle out of your head.

First saw this on a friday night in April of 2002. I remember because it was the same day that I saw Jason X at the theater. I had heard of Dark Night Of The Scarecrow online, and saw that it was having an airing around midnight on TBS, so I knew I had to see it.

Damn great movie, and I saw it at 18, and it was pretty creepy. Atmosphere is definitely the word. Really great news that it's coming out on dvd finally. And of course, seeing it was much better than Jason X.

Just wanted to throw out some love for DARK ASYLUM, a better than I expected Drake as maniac picture from 2001.

This Scarecrow movie, I would never watch it as a kid because it was built up to mythological status in the neighborhood, it was supposed to be the scariest thing in history. I was always afraid I'd piss myself or something.

I think I saw this as a kid...... I know I saw a Scarecrow movie as a kid and I remember the ending.

I dont know if it would be considered its a spoiler but.....

I remember a little girl helping the scarecrow and at the end telling him something along the lines of "Next time we can play the Jason game"

I may have made this up but. oh well.

Yep, I remember watching this as a kid, it was creepy at the time.

Dr. Giggles is a classic, but in one of the best/worst ways.

DNOTS is excellent, but Scarecrows is better as scarecrow-themed horror flicks go. The unrated DVD released last year is awesome.
