“This is an agreement that, of course, will establish a missile defense site here in Poland, a missile defense site that will help us to deal with the new threat to the 21st century of long-range missile threats from countries like Iran or from North Korea,” Rice said yesterday at the Polish presidential palace in Warsaw.

So we're trying to protect Poland from North Korea and freakin' Iran??? Can N. Korean missiles even reach Poland? Since when has North Korea or Iran ever had any sort of beef whatsoever with POLAND??

To top it all off, some vile she-demon from the Heritage Foundation was interviewed by BBC yesterday and she added fucking Al-Qaeda to the list. The shameless lies and unbelievable bullshit that comes out of these people's mouths makes me want to climb through my TV Sadako style and snap their evil necks. Al-Qaeda attacking Poland with ICBMs. I'm gonna have a stroke just thinking about it.

Seriously, think of what she's trying to sell here:

USA: We need to install these missile systems to protect Poland from North Korea and Iran.

RUSSIA: We don't like this idea, and it may provoke us into an attack.

USA: Well, these puny missiles we're installing won't stop a tough guy like you -- we're just worried about these other two countries that have never at any time posed any threat to Poland. Oh, and terrorists, of course.

RUSSIA: Oooooooo-kay.

Korea is sporting the fashionable Taepo Dong 2 missile with a range of 4000 kilometers - 10000 kilometers. Poland and North korea are 7596.74 kilometers apart.

Iran utilizes the significantly less advanced Shahab-3 with a range of only 2100 kilometers. Poland is 3465 kilometers from Iran so if Iran has a beef with the Poles, they're going to have to figure out another way to attack.


But Korea poses a clear and imminent threat. And here's a reason to attack (as if they needed a reason):

A missile defense system in Poland is not really about protecting Poland. Not all missiles are the same. It will be equipped with defensive EKV missiles that are supposed to intercept long-range missiles. Poland and the Czech republic are within distance of a fully functioning ICBM coming from Iran or North Korea.
So, at face value and assuming Rice is speaking the truth, her statements do make sense.

But haven't most of their tests been utter failures? Can they really get a missile up to 10000km distance?

But why anger a nation that has already said it may very well attack because of this installation, in order to protect Poland from two nations whose threats are remote and distant at best?

And Iran doesn't even HAVE any ICMBs, or even nukes of any freakin' kind. And even if they did, why attack POLAND?

I'm not trying to defend having a missile defense system or the administration's constantly poking a stick in Russia's eye but I wanted to clarify that it is not to protect Poland exactly. It's to protect allies and key interests in the region from possible attacks from long-range missiles from hostile nations that may or may not work in the future.
I do agree that these actions by the U.S. are terribly stupid and wrong-headed.

They can get it to go 10K but I don't think they can get it to hit what they're aiming at.
