The 'Colossal Debt Thread' aka Chewers at College

So I'm staring down the barrel of at least $18,000 dollars worth of debt. I'm due to start University in just under a month and I've just secured my loan for the course fees which are about £3000 ($6000) a year. Scary fucking stuff, but it'll be worth it when I have a degree and I'm actually properly employable in three years time. Just going to have to try and keep with my job as long as possible between studying.

So any other Chewers here halfway through just about to start University/College?

I'm fortunate enough not to have debt after graduating school (Shows what happens when you got to a Cal State) But now I'm engage the never ending hell of getting on to the second full time job.

Starting my last year (of undergraduate, at least) this Monday. I'll leave not with debt but with something much worse: a Creative Writing degree.

Hey I've got a finance degree, minor in econ. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing.

I'm in soul crushing debt thanks to school. It gives me nightmares.

Debt is one of the main reasons I didn't want to go to law school. That and my LSAT scores sucked the sweat off a dead man's balls.

Got out with only $5,000 in debt when it was all said and done.

Hmm... I guess all that standing on the street corner actually DID work out.

Just starting law school after getting two degrees, Bachelors from state school, Masters from private university. In debt about 130,000. Gonna add about 70 in the next three years, not including interest.

Yikes.

*faints*

I'm also in 6 figure territory. I try not to think about it.

EDIT: Rephrased to sound less stupid.
I managed to just avoid debt, but only through a combination of taking gap year to save up, and living at home. Still trying to graduate, too.

Christ, just reading the amount of debt you guys are in is making my stomach flutter. Ugh.

I'm about $60,000 in the hole because of school. Like Eric Cordo, I sometimes have nightmares about how big of a number that is. It's like buying three mid-size sedans and then driving them off a cliff.

Or slowly driving in circles that lead to nowhere.

I owe about 30.000 in student loans. In 1½ years I have to start pay it back at a rate of 300 dollars a month.

I thought college was free in Denmark?

Hookers are not, though.

Ah, that would be making payments on the interest only! Honestly, if it wasn't for meeting the woman that would become my wife at that school, I would jump in a Delorean and take it all back.

You know you could take her back with you in the Delorean, right?

*mind hurting!*

Don't disrupt the fabric of time, Thompson! We all know what happened to Ron Silver! Well, at least the gents in the B-Action Movie thread know what happened...

I'm in debt, but I'm not worried. That Brazilian super model I met online who I gave all my credit card and pin numbers to is going to get me top dollar once she gets back from Nigeria, just you wait!

Can you cut me into the action if I give her my card as well?

Wow. I sometimes worried about the 7ish thousand dollars in student loans I have to pay off (and am doing a damn good job of doing, thank you very much). But Jesus Christ, that's a lot of fucking debt. Hope all ya'll get degrees in something awesome, and more importantly, that pays well!
I'm down to 185000...but then again I start school again in a week...lucky it's only for two years and will only cost another 10 grand.

It is free and on top of it being free you get paid around 800 dollars a month to study, but on top of that they offer you a loan (if the 800 wont cut it), and since I spend a shitload of money I took the loan. I don't really give a shit, it meant I didn't have to take a shitty job while studying and I earn plenty now so paying it back won't be a problem.

Bitches,

that's the way to do it, mang.

Americans,

just hope the dollar keeps getting less and less valuable. You'll have gotten the stuff when it's good and be paying it back when it's crap.

Unfortunately I chose History, so I'm going to be indebt and useless.

The four years it took to get my bachelor's degree cost me 0€.
Yes, but how many of you indebted students blew all your "Course Related Costs" on widescreen TVs snd shit like all my friends did? You've dug your own graves, idiots!
Only me, so I'm laughing my ass off at your dumb example and am going to shoot myself in the head in about five minutes.
Forget stomach fluttering, you people make me want to just drop out now before I get this useless English degree (Hey Kimbell! Creative Writing's my concentration)

Minot State's fairly low in terms of costs, but I move into the dorms on Sunday. That will make it slightly less joke worthy.

Still, $100,000? Holy fuck Renn.

I'm living in that suite all by myself too. Guy across the hall cancelled and the guy who was going to be my roommate died a month ago. Hadn't even met him yet. It's going to be a very weird space until somebody moves in.

I made it out of Purdue with $15,000 in loan debt and an aerospace engineering degree, but that was 10 years ago. Now I have mortgage debt and car loan debt. Why someone would spend the money to get a degree that they know is unlikely to pay for itself for many years, if ever, is beyond me.

Being surrounded by hot 18 year old catholic schoolgirls more than makes up for the devastation bestowed upon my bank account. I'm pretty sure even Fleed could get himself laid here.
