Tales of Vesperia

So this drops in NA this week, after enormous hype and success in Japan. Anyone had a chance to get hands on with it yet? I was looking around trying to find out what the battle system is like, but couldn't find much except that the engine is beautiful. I loved Tales of Symphonia on GC, and am hoping this lives up to it. Been too long since a good JRPG came out.

Wasn't there a demo of this up on live?

I just read that on 1UP. Seems so. I guess I need to download it and give it a try.

I believe I played it and wasn't a fan at all. It looked damn nice though.

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. I've always been more a fan of active fighting in rpg's instead of turn based action. What's also refreshing is all of the characters stories are rather well done, some more than others obviously. The voice acting for the most part is top notch and the main character isn't a pansy and actually does some rather shocking things during the story that I won't state since they'd spoil some things.

This is probably my favourite RPG since Grandia. Beautiful design work, fantastic voice acting and it's just really fun to play and the script is actually kind of great. I'm only a few hours in but I don't think I've been this struck by an JRPG in a long, long time.

So I understand there is a PS3 version of this game, but so far only the 360 version is getting a western release...

I did rent the GC title and it was impressive, but didn't really blow my mind.

I played the demo and was disappointed by how dated the combat system feels. Tales of Destiny was one of my favorite PSX games, but there have been so many good action games since that make the Tales system feel archaic. Hitting attack + direction over and over isn't much different than mashing the accept button in a standard turn-based rpg.
