Staind - The Ilussion of Progress

So, anyone still likes Staind?

Their third album was pretty great at the time it came out, now i can only listen to "it's been a while" (still a great song) and the "Outside" live version with fred durst of all people.

After a couple of barely decent and very forgettable albums, the new one hit last week. And it's pretty good.

"This is it" "tangled up in you" "Believe" and a few more are getting a lot of play on my mp3 player.

Opinions?

No.

ETA: I'm being short because I hate on all Tati's hot lady friends, and I have plenty of bands in my collection that many if not most of you would find shitty at best, but IMHO, Staind is not a band but a war crime.

HAhahaha I respect that opinion. I like some of their songs. But i know what the band is.

Does Aaron Lewis still do that thing with his arms? I remember when Staind came out with Mudshovel, I was expecting a nice melodic but heavy band. Somewhere along the way, their singles lost the heavy. I blame Fred Durst for 'feelin' them lighters'. Are any of the album tracks heavier, or are they pretty much a Nu-Metal Ballad band now?

Seriously. I cringe every time I hear it when that part of the song comes up. Thanks Durst, for ruining the only good song Staind has written since their first album (which would be Mudshovel).

Home, it's been a while, outside, everything changes, devil and a few more are pretty decent!

Dysfunction is a genuinely good album. Break The Cycle and 14 Shades are weaker, but there are pretty great tracks therein (Waste, Reality, and Blow Away), and I certainly appreciate the fact that progress was being made towards not wallowing in the same misery pool as Dysfunction for album after album on end, but Chapter V was a pretty massive step backward, and there's always 3 songs per album that make me want smack Aaron Lewis with a brick. A brick with a smiley face and the number of a good therapist on it.

As childish as it is, I hate this band due to an ex significant other. I was never really a fan to begin with (but was known to rock out during a song on the radio), but I placated her. Went to the shows, bought her the albums. I didn't hate them to begin with, but after going to their "metal shows" and seeing so many "emo" kids crying, it got to me. While their first album and breakthrough album aren't horrible, what they have become is.

I never understood why you'd go to a show to cry the whole time. Seems counter-productive to me. But whatever, it's not like I have the best taste in music to begin with. And I'm drunk at the moment. So whatever.

You posted this in the music forum by accident.

To be fair, CHUD doesn't really have a forum labelled "Terrible Shit".

Oh no, Tati... I'm afraid this will haunt you for the rest of your chud career.

So, any P.O.D. fans in the house?

I got dragged to Project (The K is gay) Revolution a few years ago by an ex-girlfriend who loved Linkin Park. The sad thing is, with Less than Jake and Snoop Dogg playing before them, they sounded even worse then usual.

I wasn't aware that Staind was so hated. I didn't think they were liked, I just thought that no one really cared enough to hate them.

I'll back you up Tati. I like some of their songs. Pressure is good, so is Devil.

For what it's worth, I continue to hold up Reanimation as the best thing Linkin Park has, and probably ever will, produce.

What the fuck are you guys talking about? "Staind?" "Linkin Park?" What kind of bands can't even spell their names correctly...

The Beatles totally agree with you!

However, so do The Monkees. I think The Beatles are the exception, because otherwise, misspelling a word for a band name is usually a good barometer for how much they suck. Case in point:
Enuff Z Nuff

Man, you don't want to bring the Beatles into any discussion of Linkin Park...

I would agree with that. I really like that album a lot. Their stuff after that I just didn't care for as much. I'll see how this new stuff sounds.

I know - i'm not defending screwy spelling. I'm just up to my usual contrarianism.

Enuff Z'Nuff is perhaps the nadir of all badly-spelt band names. The fact that the lead singer was named (if I'm remembering right, and god help me if I am) Chip Z'Nuff nudges it firmly over the line from terrible band name to hate crime.

When the discussion is based entirely around the fact that both misspelled their names on purpose? Why not? It's got nothing to do with the music that either group made. No one with any sense would ever argue that the two are comparable musically. Still, the fact remains that one of the seminal rock acts of the 20th century purposefully misspelt their name.

Two more acts that spell badly but have made good/great music:

Outkast
Led Zeppelin

Here's (another) reason why I'm dumb, I'm sitting here thinking "What's he talking about, that's how you spell Zeppelin......oh.....led....."
Def Leppard!

Also, Duran Duran is technically misspelt.
The Decemberists also, I guess.

Tati, I just listened your mixtape for the first time last night. As a big "thank you", I'll be shipping these out to you tomorrow morning:
