The Goonies is a big name that I don't care about.

Schmaltz my ass. Once upon a time, that was my undisputed Round 1 pick. Just a big beautiful Italian love letter to film.

I kinda thought Flash Gordon was ineligible, but it opened about a month after Heaven's Gate, just overlooked it.

With all the talk about Kathleen Turner being hot, I'm kind of wishing I did take Romancing the Stone, she was pretty smokin' in that.

That version did play in limited release. I remember catching it at the UC Theatre.

The ultimate in Gary Busey:

Surprised about the lack of Hanks. I was a never a fan of his, but he was big *tee hee* in the 80's.

That and My Left Foot really hurt. Both were in my initial short list.

Body Heat got taken. The Kathleen Turner lust train begins with that.

IMDB shows a limited release in April of 89, though. Nevertheless, if it's not the uncut, don't want it (well, I did pick the not preferred version of Abyss, but it's not the same).

You know, I'm gonna say it -- The Money Pit.
Had this draft taken place in November or December, when people remember that flick exists, I can guarantee Scrooged would've been gone a long time ago.

Also, there's a perfectly good Hellraiser sequel that, if there were two bonus rounds, I probably would've taken just to complete the set.

All the Rob Reiner picks, and people overlook THE SURE THING.
Even though it's got big flaws:

Roger & Me

"Two weeks!"

and...

The Man With One Red Shoe.

They always have. It was on my list but I never found a spot for it.
The Twilight Zone deserves a mention. It's half a terrible movie, but the Dante and Miller segments are pretty great (Miller's especially)
Boycotted it out of respect for Vic!

Christ if we're going to do that. Why not include Bachelor Party and for that matter. Splash?
Spielberg's segment of Twilight Zone is the weakest, most manipulative and cloying thing he's ever done, and yet it breaks me every single fucking time.

Bastard.
Broadcast News
Kiss of the Spider Woman

The Ultimate Chick Flicks

Steel Magnolias
Beaches
Speaking of The Sure Thing, I'm surprised Better Off Dead wasn't picked. That was a huge movie when I was growing up.

Also, was Broadcast News picked? I thought that'd get some play.

"Hey everybody, it's Cole! Did anyone order an asshole from room service?"

Why not indeed.

And yes, kind of amazing that Splash didn't go up. Candy's finest hour.
Fuck, Scrooged was available???

I was damn sure it was ineligible! ;(
I went with the other Waters, but was toying with Hairspray.

Exactly, not to mention the infamous hot dog bun scene

"Look at my tits, they're perfect."

And yes Candy was indeed great in Splash. Despite the Ron Howard dislike. That and Night Shift were great.

You're such a sap.

Miller's segment is such a mini-masterpiece though. Shame that guy constantly gets overlooked when it comes to any of his movies that haven't got the word "Max" or "Road" in the title. I was really debating between Howling and Witches of Eastwick, which is an underrated gem, for my bonus round (incidentally, both have amazing Rob Bottin FX).

More personal faves:

Of Unknown Origin

The Coca-Cola Kid

Beyond Thunderdome

running on empty

Foxes

Ladies And Gentlemen....The Fabulous Stains

Debated taking Steel Magnolias for 2 seconds just because of my retarded, unshakable, two decade long Julia Roberts crush.

No Howard The Duck, huh?

The Gods Must Be Crazy and Crocodile Dundee seem to have aged poorly as well. Not to forget La Boum....

Another film deemed ineligible because of the August rule - Tango and Cash. Man did I watch the shit out of that VHS tape.

It was. I love it, but unless I had a theme, there's better out there. Completely forgot The Money Pit.

No.

Well, actually, let me amend that.

Hell no.
Tango & Cash is awesome.
The Loveless

Smooth Talk

Raggedy Man

Barbarosa

Tender Mercies
Tango & Cash was toyed with for a minute, but it's not Commando, nor it's backup, Roadhouse.

Rocky 3 was tempting... Mr. T was THE MAN.

Also screwed by the August cutoff: Back To The Future II.

The older I get, the more I start to see this as the high point of the series.
Thought Dickson would take DUNE. Or THE FINAL COUNTDOWN.

Sure we all considered TIMERIDER.

Absolutely. BTTF2 is by far my favorite of the whole franchise. I love the way they revisit the first part and toy with time travel in general.

Shit, why not go with The Philadelphia Experiment while we're at it?
I'll make a fake draft from the leftovers

Dangerous Liaisons
Highlander
The Money Pit
Hellraiser 2
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka

Awful draft. Like the bread aisle on Sunday night.

Body Double
Sucka
Heaven Help Us
Burden of Dreams
Sans Soleil
Road House
Karate Kid

The rest of my list

The Star Chamber (1983)
The Osterman Weekend (1983)
The Dresser (1983)
Romancing the Stone (1983)
Oh yeah Star Chamber. I just saw that. Could certainly use a remake.

Damn. The Osterman Weekend should have been drafted.
