People say that you'll die faster than without water. But we know it's just a lie.

Come on hide your lovers underneath the covers, come on hide your lovers underneath the covers.*

*The song always gives me chills. Such a masterpiece.

hiding from your brother, underneath the covers.*

*Nowhere near as smart Eaton's contribution, but godammit I'm not missing out on this.

Also James linked to the performance that made me seek out Funeral all those years ago.

I don't like being a taste Nazi, but seriously, if this song doesn't do something for you, your life sucks.

The thing that I find incredible about the Arcade Fire is they somehow manage to capture a little of the energy and spark of their live performances on their recordings. When you hear Rebellion on Funeral it's just a song seething with energy and yet it still pales in comparison to seeing them perform the song the live.

Currently zero mojitos. I'ma going to go out dancing soon enough, and then when I get home around 2 it'll be Mojito O'clock or some shit. There is a tequila review coming, though.

I hope some Step Up 2: The Streets was involved.

When the legendary Paul Haggis finished the rough cut of the pilot for The Black Donnelys he realized something was missing. In his final slow motion montage of the lead character slaughtering a rival mob he needed a powerful song to accompany it, the kind of song that would put this pilot in the pantheon that only included Crash and Crash. He flew to Canada to ask Arcade Fire permission to use this song...

...and they said, "Go fuck yourself, Haggis."

I love this song.

You ever rearrange the tracks so Neighborhood #3 (Lights Out) follows Haiti instead of Rebellion? The kick drum at the end, leading into the next song, fits both. Kinda neat. But I'm so glad they ended with Rebellion.

I say they ended with Rebellion because I tend to skip In the Backseat. Not a fan of that one.

While all their songs are better live, "In the Backseat" benefits in particular. It's much more dynamic in concert.

That was pretty fantastic. Thanks, Dave.

Regine seems to be tone it down a lot for all of their recordings, she's an incredible performer live but it took me a while to get used to her voice on Funeral. In The Backseat is such a fantastic song to an end an album with though, I'm not a fan in isolation but whenever I here it on the tailend of funeral it gives me shivers. I just love the way that more elements are introduced in the first half of the song and then they all get stripped back in the second half so you're just left with Regine's voice.
