Le fableux destin d'amelie poulain

As much as I love this film, I've come to realize it's about a mentally disturbed woman who is unable to face reality, there seems to be a dark undertone running through this film.

I still find the film endlessly charming, one thing I find about this film is the prominence of sound, unlike most other films, the use of sound really stands out, mostly due to the use of sound FX and the score but it's really well done.

I love how Amelie is kinda crazy and occasionally mean. I think the film would be boring without that, and without the glimpses of death, the porno shop, etc.

Agree with your sound comment. Yann Tiersen's music for this is very memorable, too.

I always liked the fact that the few moments we see a 'realistic' version of Paris is after Amelie has been dejected or has had one of her fantasies thwarted. That shot of the crowded train after her initial search proved fruitless always stuck out to me for that very reason.

Amelie's stifled laughter while having sex seems irrepressibly cute to me. Audrey Tautou is just so gorgeous in this film, crazy or not, Mathieu Kassovitz needs to act more, they're both social misfits but they're both charming.

I will say again, that the score for this film is fantastic, it's a perfect compliment to Jeunet's visual's.

I also wonder how she can afford that great apartment on a waitress's salary but hey, it's a fantasy.
