I just got an extra key in my email for the Japanese beta, so if anyone is savvy with the Japanese psn, send me a PM and it's yours.

I'm guessing there's no way to use this on the US PSN, right?

Really great game. Some cool levels out there. The biggest problem so far, and please let this just be the beta, I keep getting that damn, "you've got too much shit to save the profile!" error which INTERRUPTS GAME PLAY. That is bad.

I haven't started work on my level yet, mostly because I've been playing the others and doing tutorials but I've decided on what I'm going to do. A Rocketeer level, complete with Nazi blimp fight at the end. Shit yeah.

We shall be having a CHUD competition, methinks.

Anyone who is in the beta having issues with the Z-axis? I was just reading a post on how it can be a little bit tricky.

I had some problems when I first started, but I got accustomed to it after playing for a little while. It can be tricky though, no doubt. It's definitely something you have to consider when you build your own levels.
Whoops, if I'd checked my email since last night I'd have known I got into the LittleBigPlanet beta.
So this game is pretty fun. Hard to control some times but fun none the less. Some of the user made levels are fucking awesome though. Bruce and I played through a God of War level that was actually pretty awesome. Then I played a level where all you did was jump on a scooter and as it went it hit switches that played Sweet Child O Mine. Kinda cool actually.
Yeah, my girlfriend and I were playing some last night (and got an invite from Bruce as well). There was some glitchiness in the online sometimes and some of the user created levels would get really bogged down. One of the God of War levels we did was stuttering the whole time and at the end of the RRoD level it got really choppy.

The downside is that my girlfriend kind of sucks at the game. Maybe a double jump or the ability to climb up ledges would help. And the multiple planes can just be kind of confusing. I was never sure which one I was on. Still it's pretty fun and I'll keep playing it this week and decide if it's something I want to try to pick up Day 1 or if I'll wait a little bit longer.
After playing some more last night, I'd say the lack of custom soundtracks definitely hurts the game some. Too often on the user created levels I was just playing to silence and sound-effects.

I'd just found the Castle Crashers soundtrack on MP3 and was interested in playing some LBP with that rocking in the background and couldn't. The PS3's optional custom soundtrack support is quite frustrating.

It's something that can be patched I guess. It'd odd they're having a beta now.

Oh wait, no its dumb. It's called a demo if the game's gone gold, surely?
Well, they call it the Online Beta. I'm sure that most of the single-player stuff was gold on release, they were focusing more on the networking and server code. Especially since the game is probably already being pressed for release in 2 weeks.
Making a "good" level is fucking hard as shit. I cannot wait to get the full game and have some time to spend working on it. Also, anyone else play the Heist level? That was a fun one.
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to getting some really good levels. I mean, that Super Mario Bros. Level 1-1 level ... that was crap. This one where you go through the dinosaur guts was a lot of fun (especially since they had the zeppelin that is talked about on Penny Arcade today).

I'm not probably ever going to create anything for the game though, I just don't have the will to go through that whole process using only the controller.

Isn't there the possibility of mouse/keyboard compat a la UT3?
I don't think just tacking on mouse/keyboard controls here would help that much. The whole level creator UI is designed for controller input. I just mean a more functional GUI (like as a standalone piece of desktop OS software like the Unreal Editor) and not entirely 'in-engine.'
Hearing about this game, I now want to go out and buy a PS3. Great.

It may just be something that requires practice then. Or they'll release a standalone at a later date - I mean, technically there's no reason why not - there's something similar for UT3 (oddly that crops up again) even if that was only because there's a PC version in the first place.

Would the levels that come with the game and the user generated content be enough to satisfy you, or is there inherently something more wrong with the game than that?
No, I was just saying that if I were going to sit down and make a level, that doing it on my couch with a controller isn't going to work with me. It wasn't meant to really be complaining, I doubt even if there were a desktop app that I'd use it.

The music thing really does bug me though, because I was playing it for a while last night and just kept thinking, "I wish I could hear more music here." So then I went into the XMB and tried to play a playlist and it said it wasn't supported. It was frustrating.

I really like the game. I wish they'd added some more platformer staples (like double jump and climbing up ledges) but they've got to save something for LBP2 I suppose.

Admittedly, from the little i've played - a lack of double-jump does frustrate me a bit.
Digging the fuck out of this game so far. Made two levels already, and it was quite the learning experience. Had my dream realized by making a level featuring JEFF FAHEY throughout. Kind of basic, but it was fun playing it last night with 3 other people. Really can't wait for the entire game.
I liked your pendulum swinging level. It was fun until I accidentally ran backwards somewhere and got stuck. That kind of sucked.
Yeah, I need to fix some issues haha. These are more of a learning the ropes kind of levels.
I'm so jealous of all you guys for being in the beta. I'm moving into a new house next month, which came out of nowhere, so my budget for games just got really limited really fast.

I found 4 chewers the night before last all playing beta.

You're cunts, all of you.

So this is what it feels like to be completely and utterly jealous of PS3 owners and an exclusive game of theirs?

BAH!!

.. I want to make levels and play people's Jeff Fahey stages..

9.5 from IGN UK.

I've been dubious about IGN and Gamespot's scores on games for quite a while now, especially since the K&L issue - but that's still an impressive score for them to give out.
I've written academic papers that were half the length of that IGN review. Jesus.

It happened with Halo 3 too.

Reviewer does get bogged down in their own personal experience with "triggers" however that'll mean shit all to most people, who just want to know if the game's worth buying.

Talk of a potential 3 week delay due to an "insensitive" song on the soundtrack - something quoting the Quran?

"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," admitted the company in a statement.

And what the two expressions mean translated:

Quote:

1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').

Sweet. Feel free to make me an offer for my retail copy.

It's delayed.

We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.

Well, given how the whole stupid church thing in Resistanc: Fall of Man played out, you could see why Sony would want to err on the side of caution here.

You'd have thought it more sensible to patch the game to disable access to the track.

I guess it's like Hot Coffee - doesn't matter how inaccessible it is, someone'll probably find a way to play it back on a PC and find it offensive.

Also - those lyrics? Wtf?
Circuit City is offering a $15 giftcard with purchase in the current ad, but since its getting delayed I hope they will still honor this next week.

Good news guys...seems we won't have to wait that long for the game. Media Molecule said its only going to be pushed back one week.

So, Christmas came early. Sittin' enough cash to go buy myself a blu-ray player, I mean ps3. Looks like I'll be enjoying Jeff Fahey levels with the rest of you after all!

Thanks for dying, Jesus!
I'm going to make a tit level.

Thinking about that and thinking about what happened in Spore, I really think this game is going to be awesome.
I'll be re-tooling my Fahey level. It was basically to learn the ropes. It was pretty simple. .
I just got a call from the place I pre-ordered it: it's ready for me to pick up.

That WAS fast!

ETA: Love the narrator, the tutorials, the music. Love my orange, grumpy-faced pirate sackboy. This thing is going to be such a blast once some neat user-levels start getting cranked out. I love how tweakable everything is- changing a sunny garden environment to a black and white, foggy nightscape with ominous music triggering when I approach a big Sackboy sculpture who warns: "You're doomed, you're all DOOMED!" with an insane laugh sound effect.

I hope this thing is a big success and the community is around making great content for a long time to come
post #97 of 150
Gamestop is now selling this, by the way.

I can't connect to the LBP servers, but I don't know whether it's a problem with my system or if the full servers won't go online until Tuesday. Anybody else having this problem?
Servers are down across the board, not just you Slater. I too cannot connect.

I would imagine we'll see them online with the actual release date which I thought was the 27th. That being said I'm amazed at the complexity of the main Media Molecule levels; suddenly the user created stuff I saw during the beta doesn't seem nearly as intricate and complex. I can't wait to see what people do now that they have all the tools at their disposal.
As brilliant as the main game is, the level creator just annoys the piss out of me. I'm actually honest-to-god STUCK on the second tutorial, the one where you have to place a statue on each of the three platforms. For whatever reason, when I try to switch layers, the statue itself elongates, so I wind up with statues that either stick together or span the width of all three platforms. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but damned if I know what it is.

But whatever. As long as a decent community springs up, I can't see this game ever leaving my collection.
You're not alone, there a few tutorials in the creator I completed through sheer button mashing and 'what the fucks?' followed by a completion pop up. I'm actually avoiding the creator until absolutely necessary because the hour+ required to view all the tutorials is simply not something I am willing to sit through again. Sorry Stephen Fry, you just aren't that charming.

Also maybe someone can explain to me the rewind function in the creator, every time I would accidentally hit the d-pad I would wind up frozen in a pause/rewind mode with no hope of escape.
