Bully: Scholarship Edition

Kind of loving this game, I missed the original on the PS2 so it was great to be able to catch up with it. It feels to me like the spiritual middle ground between San Andreas expansiveness and Grand Theft Auto's focus on story and interpersonal stuff. Having tons of fun with stuff like the paper route and finding rubber bands and transitor radios but jesus are some of the classes you have to attend murdering me. The Music and Art lessons in general have me completely stumped.

I've been waiting to see this for under $20, then I'll be jumping on it. All the local stores still have it for $30-$40. Always looked great, but I almost think Rockstar would have been better served holding it's original release for 360.

It's been hitting $15 on clearance for both Wii and 360 at some Targets lately. Check your local stores, and you might get lucky.

I'll have to trade in some stuff to pick this up. Put off picking it up for a long time, but I'm suddenly very interested in playing it.

Anyone know if its better on the Wii or the 360?

I would say go with the 360. Had some bugs awhile ago bu they are all worked out, plus I dont think the motion controls were that big of a deal breaker.

I actually couldnt stand this game. It annoyed me to no end on how if you missed going to class, you would be chased by the the Prefects. I was always too afraid to go off on any side-quests or explore because of the chance that the bell would ring and i would be too far from my class.

Has this come out for the pc yet I know it was in the works but haven't heard about it since

Wasn't that the fun part? I would ditch class just to see if I can sneak in and out of the hallways without getting caught.

I was hyped for Bully. Till I heard about the bugs. Now: not that interested.

I think they've ironed out the game breaking ones on the 360 (via updates etc)

That had been stopping me from picking this up (loved the ps2 version). Might have to for the right price.

Yeah I've had all of 1 problem in my 20 hours of playtime so far and it was with one of the additional missions they've added to the Scholarship Edition. But yeah the game is running fine thanks to the patch.

I'm currently on Chapter 3 and the missions are brilliance. I just finished working for a drunken santa who wanted me to destroy one of his rival's grottos. Which led to me trashing a Christmas Village and booting Christmas Elves across town.

The game is endlessly inventive (the errands have you beating up pirates, exploring ship wrecks, delivering take aways, disecting animals, naming states) and there's nothing like riding through town on a souped up BMX/Go Cart.

The only problem is that the Christmasy missions in Chapter 3 and the snow covered town are making me pine for december. It's also nice to see a modern game which is willing to be devilishly difficult at times. The arcade games and some of the classes (I'm looking at you Music Class 5) are just insanely challenging.

Zombie: If you take the time to get most of your classes done whilst you're confined to the academy you can walk around without issue. Once you've completed Level 5 of a class you don't have to ever attend it again and prefects won't stop you.

I breezed through the Music classes. Didn't really find them difficult. Biology, on the other hand...

I had no problems with Gym, Biology or Chemistry at all. Art was a pain in the ass but I managed to luck out twice. English, Geography and Maths are easy enough but it’s kind of embarrassing to have your limited vocabulary tested by a god damn videogame and I had to look up a map of America for the State lesson in Geography. Music wouldn’t be a problem if the shoulder buttons were a tad more responsive and it probably doesn’t help that I’ve never played Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Generally speaking the game is easy enough, it just has some ridiculous spikes in difficulty on its sub-games (Fuck You Con-Sumo) which mean that 100% will always be out of my reach.

Love this game but I played it for PS2. Exactly how many new missions are added?

ConSumo was so fucking hard. I finished with about 91% completion, the exact number is in the "wtf are you playing" thread somewhere.

Music Class 5 is fucking impossible. I don't know if it's my controller or what, but the game literally doesn't register some of the trigger pulls. Any tips?
Does anyone play this on the PC? I've heard such horrible things about the bugs that I haven't had the guts to pick it up yet. Any word?

I've thought of digging this game back up. I beat the PS2 version and sold it awhile ago. I got the 360 version on the cheap because I heard about the new levels.

Played a little and never gave much of a damn about playing again. Is there much difference between the PS2 and 360 versions? In terms of content and playing experience.

Good luck with the 360 version. Glitchy as hell.

Any word on a sequel?

They patched it about a year ago. Works fine now.

This is still in my pile of great unbeaten titles for the 360. Some day, when putting Fallout 3 to bed allows me to get to the rest of my collection....

It's not your controller; the new classes were definitely tailored for the Wii version. There's not a lot of advice I can give you, since it is kind of genuinely broken.

They released a major patch a few months ago, but I think the major bugs were limited to people running it on 64-bit operating systems.

So very glad to hear that this is (most likely) getting a sequel. I actually ended up enjoying this far more than Autos 4 when I played through them last year.

FINALLY GOT A 90 IN MUSIC 5.

Fuck you, Rockstar.
Music 5 almost made me destroy a controller.

I'd really like a sequel to this game. In some ways, I preferred it to the GTA series.

Funny you should mention "music" and "sequel" in one post-- there was a blurb on one of the news sites the other day (Joystiq, I think) with a comment from the composer for BULLY. He said he WOULD BE DOING the music for the sequel... so, it sounds like the beans have been unintentionally spilled.

Like, five posts up, guy. You don't even have to scroll very far to see it.
