Political media

I almost posted this in the mega thread but thought there's enough media weirdness going on to merit its own thread.

Anyone else notice how paradigm-altering the Palin affair has been for Drudge? If it were anyone else, he would have been all over this story, but in fact he was one of the last to pick it up, and then only to link to heavily politicized response to the scandal. Now, the site is in full anti-"librul media" swing wrt Palin.

In however long he's been online, I don't think I've ever seen anything like this from Drudge.

Thanks. I clicked on Drudge and now my computer has gonorrhea. I hope you're satisfied.

Seriously though, Drudge spinning pro-Republican is unusual? I thought that was just the way he rolled, under a thin and unconvincing veil of "neutrality".

It's sometimes hard to figure out what he's going to focus on. During the primaries, he was all too happy to post the most obscure anti McCain stories, in this case, he has gone very quiet.

Then again, I don't doubt if he really had a good scoop on something Palin related he would post it.

Sorry about the hax warez...

No, he's always overtly Republican, but he loves a good scandal. When Larry Craig was cruising the bathrooms, Drudge practically broke it. Every time there's sex in the offing, you get the police light. But not this time. When the rumors first started surfacing, he was dark on the story for like two days. Not until a righty story demonizing the "lefty blogs" appeared did Drudge pick it up.

As a Drudge observer, I can tell you that's strange for him.

Apparently that's the Right's strategy now concerning Palin: work the refs. The sad thing is, the media will totally over-react and go totally dark on Palin to prove they're "objective". It would be funny were it not so totally disturbing.

Really broken up about the Balkanization of the mega thread but I guess it had to happen sooner or later. What I'm wondering is why the press isn't reporting on the fractures in the Republican party? I mean, the people doing the pool video for the convention have been mighty charitable in choosing what angles to exploit but there's no getting around the fact that the place is small and still fucking empty. Also, add in the fact that Ron Paul has a rally going on with pretty big speakers nearby that has attracted 10K people to it. Do we have solid numbers on the people attending the GOP convention? Looks like MAYBE 6K to me. Maybe 7K.

Now contrast this with last week at the DNC. All we heard about last week was how there was open revolt going on and how thousands of PUMAs were there in force. Turns out the PUMAs couldn't even fill a restaurant and their convention only had 60 people show up. Talk about media bias.

Excellent point. But the media has completely censored all things Ron Paul, in spite of his impressive fundraising and support network, and in spite of this alternate convention. I didn't even realize it happened until I saw part of it on youtube during a Jesse Ventura/Larry King hunt. I'm not a Paul-ite myself, but I'd be pretty annoyed at the total media blackout if I were.

There has also been a dearth of reportage on Sarah Palin's extreme Christian right wing views. I'm wondering if they kept her away from Phyllis Schlafly's event because they're going to try to soften this aspect of her so as not to alienate the moderate Repubs any more than they are already.

Just saw Jesse Ventura's speech at the Ron Paul rally. Definitely more people there than at the GOP convention. And it looks like all the young people who were missing at the official get together were there. Pretty amazing.

Has anyone posted this youtube vid? Showing Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy discussing the Palin nomination? The juicy stuff is AFTER the camera is off and they're caught on tape discussing their thoughts.

And this is the correct thread to post this, eh?

Anywhoos:

Regarding Drudge, it was weird. I was just thinking last week how oddly even-handed he'd been over the summer (well, by Drudge standards, anyway). Even Atrios noted the phenomenon. But the Palin pick has indeed sent him into full-on spin mode.

My sister figured it out. He's vehemently anti-abortion, so she's his girl.

Ah, so he distrusted McCain enough to actually be somewhat fair before Palin came on board.

Interesting theory.

It seems the National Enquirer is annoying the McCain camp:

Quote:
John McCain’s campaign threatened legal action against the National Enquirer today for running a story about McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, allegedly having an affair with her husband’s business partner.
This is the "paper" the had the John Edwards affair months before anyone touched it. Everyone, including the Edwards camp, ingnored the story and it went away, until it was proven true. Is McCain overreacting to this story in a paper known for being totally unrealiable?
