Good Old Games?

Ran across this on another board. They're basically offering versions of old-school computer games updated to work on Vista and XP, with prices from $5.99 to $9.99. Considering the hassle of fiddling with compatibility modes or futzing around with emulators, this could be worthwhile. Having Fallout 2 plastered prominently on the main page doesn't hurt either. I signed up for the beta, we'll see what happens.

One of those pics is Freespace 2. That's a must-buy. One of the best space shooter there's been.

I signed up awhile ago as well. Im wondering if the beta testers will have to pay for the games or at the least get a nice discount.

He's pretty grizzled with eld, but Jacob Singer seems like a decent enough chap. Oh wait, good old games. My bad, I misunderstood your title.

**we need a complete lineup of working titles, stat. DosBox made me cry on more than one occasion.

Count me in for Freespace and Fallout 2. I remember Sacrifice being crazy fun, so I might get that one too when they become available.

Was never a big fan of the original MDK though....maybe MDK 2?

Yes, they do have MDK2

Only has about 32 games in total so far though. All the Fallouts, all the Descents, Freespace 1 & 2, Messiah, Kingpin, Shogo, Jagged Allience 2, Redneck Rampage. Those are the only ones i could remember being any good.

Still haven't gotten any further info after submitting my email a week ago. They say they're rolling out invites in stages, so we'll see.

I got the beta access key yesterday and bought Freespace. There's no download manager or anything, which is nice, you just download a setup file that runs GOG's installer. Also comes with the electronic manual and reference card. Freespace launched without a hitch, although the view was stuck in constant rotation when I started the first mission, like a joystick was permanently pulled in one direction. But I only had a minute to see if the game worked and did not even begin to troubleshoot it.

Almost all of these games are on GameTap too, but there is something to be said for permanent DRM-free ownership.
