2008 Presidential Debates - Page 16

Okay, who's betting that there'll be a "medical emergency" regarding Palin's baby that requires her to miss the debate? It's a foolproof out -- you don't dare criticize her for it, and anyone trying to claim it's fake gets branded as a heartless bastard.

'Foolproof' as in nobody will believe it?

Do you want to be the guy that has to go out say, "Bullshit, her baby's not sick"?

Wouldn't a move like that kind of defeat the "her family won't hinder her" thing? The kid's got a dad, nobody would believe a move like this.

Exactly!

"Madame President, the 3 brigades are ready to move in at your command to dispose of those Iranian nuke plants before they manage to smuggle any warheads out to hezbollah!"

"Very well General, let's get this thing..." *riiing, riiiing* (cellphone) "... excuse me General. WHAT IS IT TODD?"

"I'm sorry General, that was my husband, it seems that Trig has caught a cold so we'll have to resume this when I'm back from Alaska!"

Considering we are a nation of heartless bastards, i'm sure she'd called out a lot. and rightly so.

Eh, I probably shouldn't post so early in the morning. And I should stop watching so much West Wing.

I think that Biden is really going to expose Palin on diplomatic experience, he will demonstrate her ineligibility for the job just by stating his resume.

I can't wait for this debate to start.

Palin's going "claws out" against Biden:

I think this is great news. She'll come off as bitchy and prove that she has no substance. They're going for yet another flashy play because the campaign realizes when it comes down to it, there is nothing underneath. At this point in the game that won't work with voters. Attacking Biden? Desperate move to distract from her lack of knowledge.

I'm still cautious but, fucking bring it!

If she pushes him on his North Korea "paper tiger" comment, he needs to just look at her and say, "And where do you stand on North Korea?" Then smile and sit back.

Oh Saracuda. And then he can ask you to point out Iraq on a map.

Yes, and then us folks with brains will laugh as she stumbles through an incoherent "answer", but "Joe Six-Pack" will think she said something of substance because he heard stuff like "Health Care" and "Nuke-u-lar weapons".

I will dedicate my life to building a monument to Gwen Ifill if she responds to Palin just once with, "Ms. Palin, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Well, the McCain campaign clearly saw how well coming off as cranky and aggressive worked last Friday and decided it was time to go for it again. Bravo!

I'm concerned about the way the McCain camp is actively trying to malign and discredit Gwen Ifill due to their own incompetence.

What McCain wants of the debate:

"Senator Biden, next question. What's the most feasible way to reconcile the fractured populations of Iraq into a cohesive, pro-Western democracy?"

"Governor Palin, rebuttal?"

"Governor Palin, next question. How many justices sit on the Supreme Court?"

"Senator Biden, rebuttal?"

"Senator Biden, next question. As the lone superpower in a global economy, [something about NATO and, I don't know, the WTO or something]?"

"Governor Palin, rebuttal?"

"Governor Palin, next question. What is the role of the Minority Whip in the U.S. Congress?"

"Senator Biden, rebuttal?"

SPIN: "Look how many times Biden said Palin was right! Every damn question! He didn't have ONE comeback. TOTAL PALIN VICTORY." This is assuming, of course, Gov. Palin knows the answers. Then the spin is, "Heck, I don't know what the Whip does [this person really does]. That like Key Grip? Ha ha!"

The format for tonight's Town Hall:

Quote:
Tuesday's match-up at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., will be moderated by NBC's Tom Brokaw, with the questions to be culled from a group of 100 to 150 uncommitted likely voters in the audience and another one-third to come via the Internet. The Gallup Organization -- as in past debates like this -- has the job of making sure the questioners reflect the demographic makeup of the nation.

Brokaw selects the questions to ask from written queries submitted prior to the debate, according to the "contract."

An audience member will not be allowed to switch questions. Under the deal, the moderator may not ask followups or make comments. The person who asks the question will not be allowed a follow-up either, and his or her microphone will be turned off after the question is read. A camera shot will only be shown of the person asking -- not reacting.

While there will be director's chairs (with backs and foot rests), McCain and Obama will be allowed to stand -- but they can't roam past their "designated area" to be marked on the stage. McCain and Obama are not supposed to ask each other direct questions.

As in all the debates, the contenders cannot bring in notes, though they can take them once at the lectern.

Sarah Palin seemed to be looking at notes several times during her debate with Joe Biden. Each candidate is allowed to "take notes during the debate on the size, color and type of blank paper that each prefers."

Palin was clearly looking at (and occasionally reading from) notes during her debate. I thought that must have been allowed. I didn't see her write any notes. Curious.

I'd love to see them though. Probably a big 'Maverick' underlined with lots of arrows pointing to it.

She probably did what I used to do for some exams. I used to write down the most complex formulas and facts down as soon as I started one of the harder exams.

I'd say it's more likely that she just ignored the rules and brought in notes.

Cheat or not, this is a great compilation of every time she clearly read from her notes, and a good indication of what was written there.

Well, if she was able to memorize and then immediately write down all of the stuff that she was clearly reading in the debate then wow, that's pretty crazy.
My guess is she just had "high level" talking points.

Like I said, I used to be able to "dump out" the most complex formulas to exams the second I started it so I could reference it later. Some of the points she was making would be much simpler to just jot down little by little at the beginning.
