True Blood (HBO) - Page 3

Why do people that don't come off as real people come out of the ether to support bad movies and shows?
Are you saying TrueBlood is a bad show? If so your nuts. Here's what I think about people that go around calling shows like TrueBlood bad shows. Pompous critical assholes. All these people that go around giving good shows bad reviews are like these moronic jealous critics that never made it big so they went to writing reviews. Plus if your going to give a show like TrueBlood a bad review when it is getting good reviews. Why don't you make a show and show us how it is done? I am sure that will never happen. A lot of people have annoyed me recently about fringe and true blood. I think they are great.

Welcome to CHUD. May I introduce you to Devin? A huge pompous critical asshole, and damn good at it too. Face it, True Blood just isn't that good. It's not offensive, but not good.
Thanks for the welcome. Kinda a doushe filled opinion when you haven't even seen two episodes of it yet? Pilots are always a little hazy. I think people should watch a few more episodes before they jump on the puss toot wagon of hating something.
If a telepathetic* waitress with a crush on a neutered vampire that has bestest of friends that are your stereotypical characters isn't someones thing.. it just isn't. A second helping will just increase the homicide statistics associated with television.

*Meant it.

lol. My mom walked out of it the first 20 mins. To much gore Jeffery. To much gore! Why do you like the gore? ha ha. Cause I'm a sick fuck mommy. That's why. =)

Just want to thank CHUD again for the "add user to my ignore list" feature. So, so helpful.

I've now just noticed something odd. When a person who hates a show after one episode thinks it's shit, they're called assholes or something else by a person who loves it. By that thought process, aren't the lovers/defenders of the show calling themselves assholes by proxy?

I see someone doesn't believe in love at first sight...

edit: There's actually no gore in the first 20 minutes, vampire sex, no gore.

So, how's middle school treatin' ya?
I'm 33. I live across the street from my mom. I visit often. Might wanna fine tune those psychic abilities a bit more.

Want me to visit your mommy to? =)

Nothing psychic about it, I was using methods of observation and (wrongly) assumed that anyone above middle school would know the difference between to and too, you're and your. Of course, I exaggerated a little bit...I really pegged you for some High School goth kid, but apparently you just never outgrew that phase.
Thanks Mr. Grammar.

You know there are a lot of cool people at this site. Also a whole lot of assholes.

Is that your photograph in your avatar? You resemble Peewee Herman a bit there.

You know what the word of the day is?

I'd rather be a over grown goth kid then peewee any day.

Everyone who has bad mouthed true blood has not said exactly why.

I'm summing it up to not having HBO. But you would think they'd be torrent smart at least. I'm willing to bet most of them never even seen it.

Like Jebus says you have to be like a child to enter into heaven.

I got it covered Peewee.

Wow. Keep digging that hole, buddy. That avatar is Person from Generation Kill (played by James Ransone). You know, the show that aired on HBO this summer that you probably didn't understand.

Moron.
I thought that showed sucked.

Not into watching glorified war garbage.

Keep with the name calling chumpy.

It's pretty obvious you lack the intelligence to openly debate what is we are disagreeing upon.

I bet your voting for McCain to aren't you?

Just so we're clear: Generation Kill sucked, but True Blood is awesome? Do you even know what glorified war garbage is? Did you even watch the show? Do you even HAVE HBO?

This is too entertaining. And what do you think of The Wire?
I would say we should launch an attack on this guy's board, but I feel like this is bait, like someone wants us to go to his board.

He has a chat room. Even better!
Launch an attack on my board? lol My board has been attacked more times then you got brain cells buddy. I run a website about UFOs and the paranormal and the occult. It's a rare crowd. Finding someone to talk about it intelligently is usually a one in a million chance. It's a rough crowd over there. Knock your skivvies off.

I am here discussing a show I enjoy case closed. I love TrueBlood I simply wanna know why gooch brain doesn't like it and likes some dumb war show even better?

I actually didn't like generation kill or the wire. As far as HBO is concerned
I loved Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome, TrueBlood, Six Feet Under, Bill Maher, Curb your Enthusiasm.

I also feel HBO bit a big shit bullet when they canceled Deadwood and Carnivale. Still pissed about that but TrueBlood softened it a little bit.

As for Generation Kill. Not my bag. But I respect you like it. I'm just not into modern war movies that much. I feel the war is a sham. I see enough of the crap on CNN.
Did you like Cathouse?
I'm not sure what cathouse is. lol

Sounds like one of the late night shows I thumped my pud to a few times.

Is that one of those porn shows late at night?

Are you seriously accusing people of bad mouthing the show for no reason without reading the entire thread? Because people gave plenty of reasons for not liking the show on the first page. There was also a Cathouse discussion.

I will quote Dr. Strangefist because this post sums it up pretty well:

Quote:
Awful, convoluted, poorly executed mess. There are interesting concepts sprinkled throughout but they are not handled well, and it's like the creators had ideas for 3-5 different shows/movies and decided to haphazardly toss them all together in one big Frankenstein's monster of failure. Then there's the "oooh, look, we're on HBO, we can do what we want! We have to be edgy!" sex and nudity, some really bad performances and awful accents (the sassy black friend, again. her accent is unbelievable), and, despite how convoluted it is, an extremely predictable plot. Just a mess. I'll probably watch at least another episode or two though - it's fascinating to watch this kind of utter train-wreck.
I have read the entire thread. I do respect that strangefist has agreed to watch more episodes. I think more people should adopt that attitude. People have the right to not like something. As I also have the right to question why they do not like something. That is all that I'm doing. If you recall this whole little bar brawl started when some rude gooch called me a shit outta the blue for no reason then the thread escalated and a buncha other assholes jumped in. The band wagon technique very primitive. I am not here to make enemies but I do enjoy ruffling feathers. I find it pretty boyish highschool like of you to threaten my website which is my passion. Which believe it or not was made after I had many personal UFO experiences myself. Anyone is welcome there and to each their own. You enjoy your Bush war cunny show and I'll enjoy my nosferatu in the deep south. Case closed. Take it easy.
Go read Twilight. Stay off the internet. Okay, thanks.
This show was better than I thought it would be. Of course, I thought it was going to be complete shit. It's really only about 83% shit. It would be kind of interesting if they took a political and social angle about vampire integration but it looks like it's just going to be fuckin' and killin'.
Have to admit I enjoyed this show, its not the HBO slam dunk classic we sometimes get, but I definitely found it entertaining. It feels especially fresh, since Vampires exist openly in society, cool angle.
Saw it yesterday with the GF. Both of us thought it was alright, but nothing to write home about. I figure we'll probably catch 1 or 2 more episodes to see if it gets any better but for some reason I have a feeling it may not.
Alright so I finally saw this and I gotta say I don't hate it. Now thats not to say I love it either, it does have it's problems........lots.

I was really interested in Anna Paquin but after seeing her shes probably the least interesting of them all. Also her weird virgin angle bothers me. I mean I guess if you can read peoples thoughts it makes it less sexy to be with someone because you can hear everything they think about you good and bad. However to have zero sexual attraction to anyone(unless of course they are a vampire) seems off to me. So they better have an explaination for that.

Using the vampires to represent how we are such a racist society seems like a good idea at first but ultimately I feel it doesn't quite work. This is mostly due to the fact that unlike vampires blacks, jews, gays ect don't drink blood and kill you. I mean vampires actually pose a legitimate threat. Really a better comparison would be pedophiles. They can't help the way they are and we are told that they can suppress it and be reformed but then theres another story in the news about a paroled pedophile raping another kid. Now imagine that but with superhuman abilities.

The black friend........man I hope she gets killed and quick. If your wondering why I called her that instead of using her character name it's because thats her only trait they bring up on the show. I can't figure out if im more offended that she walks around treating white people like shit or that they actually are still using the "im a sassy black chick that don't take no jive" stereotype.

Despite all of the things I brought up here im still into it to some degree, I like that they don't shy away from the violence and sex. I like the vampires trying to get by in society(even though it's not perfect as stated above). It does show some promise. And heres the thing, not all of HBO's programming has to be brilliant and award winning. Some things can just be fun like Entourage. Not saying this is as good as entourage but I think you take my meaning. It's an uncensored tv show and it's ok to have some fun with that. We will see if the second ep is any good tonight.
I just saw the second ep, I am definitely into this show now. Somehow a friend of mine had it downloaded, I guess its been leaked online.

It really reminds me of Ann Rices universe, and theres this palpable danger for all the principal characters. I really hope this show doesn't get canceled too quickly, It certainly feels like the type of show to die an early death.

The surprising part is, that it isn't too slow, ponderous, or character based, the general tone I expect from Alan Ball, the show has a fair amount of plot momentum.

One thing you know about HBO, they'll air the whole season. I'm assuming ratings will have to improve for this to get a 2nd season, but it isn't unlikely that it will be back given HBO's current slate of shows (even Rome got two seasons).
I normally give a show three episodes before dropping it, this is on the line. I'm not liking Paquin's hair. That really hurts the show for me.
Second episode has the lamest cliffhanger in the history of ever. Oh no! Vampires are making faces at her!

And blonde Anna Paquin reminds me of Aurora Snow, and that's freaking me out a bit.
Alan Ball is a terrible, terrible writer.

next to "hey, this show is great," that's one of the last things I'd ever expect to say about True Blood. does it come through more clearly in the second episode, or are you just seeing something I'm not?

I'll be watching the new episode tonight, so I guess I'll see for myself.
I think episode 2 was, generally, a step up... the cliffhanger is atrocious (and there wasn't any need for it), but other elements sort of began to semi-work...
So, this still sucked, but it seemed like they were actually trying to address some of the stupid shit in the first episode. Yeah, the cliffhanger was laughable.
After fastfowarding through 80% of the episode (John Billingsley!!!) the end looked a bit more interesting. I like the idea of vampires being evil and the whole 'we're OK, we drink synthetic blood' angle is a ploy...

The show warranted being set to "record all new episodes, first run only" on my DVR status. If it gets wrapped up next week by Bill the vampire kicking everyones ass and everything being honkey dorey by the end of the episode and "i'm not like them... really!" it goes back to "if I happen to be watching entourage live... and this is buffered in my DVR... sure". status
post #138 of 677
There was an American Psycho reference.

The episode was slightly better than the last one.

They've now established that Sookie can see images that people think. I just wish people weren't always thinking such generic thoughts. All her male customers describe sexual acts in the exact same way.

Not to be too mean, as I will probably watch the third episode, but this show comes across like fan fic of another show.
The -cliffhanger is 3 vampires barring their fangs in some sort of vampiric "waaaaaaaaaassssssssssssuuup?". Really. These endings are some of the cheapest way to create expectation out of a viewer who has a brain. It uses the same technique The DaVinci Code used, cutting the chapters just as the dumbass opened the door or some shit like that. Poor poor writing.

I'm trying to hold on to see how that Generation Kill guy will show up, but I don't know how to suffer through that again. That black bitchy retard and Paquin's brother are piss-poor characters. One is there to be the smart-ass and be unfunny while the other is there to fuck a girl every show.

"DID YOU OWN SLAVES?" Fuck you bitch.
The cliffhanger was a bit of a joke but I dig how the anti-vampire guy and his family were killed in a 'freak' accident. I also base my recording on the scenes from next week.

I have no doubt this show is crap... but it's a good filler to take over for Stargate: Atlantis or Eureka at this point... the repeat following Entourage is what is selling it to me as I like to pause TV and there are no commercials during Entourage.
Well, yes, this was better than the premiere. I got a feeling, however, this might the best it will ever manage.

Nonsense! She's a young black woman who can't hold down a job, has an alcoholic mother and no father in sight, and who's in love with the white himbo when she's not hanging out with her oversexed male cousin, who's black and gay and therefore capable of dispensing homespun wisdom to our heroine, but with a saucy twist.

It's great to see HBO blasting stereotypes out of the water with their powerful vampire metaphor.

I'm finally going to say aloud what I've been suspecting for years: Anna Paquin is simply not a good actress. That walk was excruciating on top of boring.

Yeah, this one isn't making it to ep 3 for me.
Saw it again last night and while the GF thought it was interesting enough to keep watching. I'll have my headphones on the next time that happens.

Fuck you to whoever said this show is in the same league as Eureka. That's a pretty good show. Especially for being on the Sci-Fi channel. I will agree that True Blood is on par with the Stargate shows (thought the same thing as the episode ended); meaningless fluff that can be used to kill time until something else, hopefully better, comes on. The comments made on how the vampire analogy works better with pedophiles in real life than with other groups are so on point. For something the producers kept bringing up as a main focal point of the show, they really haven't touched on it much outside a couple of scenes (over two episodes) and the debate on the television.

I know the show is based on some books and decided to wiki them to see where the show's overall storyline will progress. Unfortunately, sounds ridiculous: http://tinyurl.com/6evmeq.

so mostly this week they traded convoluted/too many random ideas for just boring, although I guess it was a little better. but only a little. still so many heavy handed "DO YOU GET THE ALLEGORY?!" moments, and cheesy acting and writing, etc. yet as bad as I think it is, I'll probably keep watching more episodes - because of the trainwreck factor but also because I want to see if all my friends and my ridiculous predictions about where it's headed end up being right. so in that sense I guess it's got me interested, even if it's in a so bad I can't resist kind of way.
i might have been high, but does it seem that they are setting up the friend as being able to mind control people? or have i just been watching too much heroes lately?

feel free to flame my retardation if that is not the case

(anyone read the books?)

edit: i'm probably just overthinking and hoping something interesting happens in this extremely mediocre at best show
post #146 of 677
Thought it was pretty lame, but not excruciatingly so. I'll probably try to remember it's on next week if the football game is sucking air.

FWIW, one of the guys over on AICN (Quint, maybe?) has seen the first five eps and says it's going to get better beginning next week.
This show is pretty close to Heroes levels of awfulness. At least it has tits and gore, I guess.
This show is based on series of book written by this woman:

My god, it was adapted from a series written by a middle aged woman with weight issues? How dare they.
She looks like my Grandma. And from what I've read from the link above, if the story follows what was written, it is Grandma material.
