Hmm, Atlantic City vampires. I love it!

The only thing that will bring me back to HBO is the Spielberg Pacific series.

Their new shows may not have been up to snuff this year, but HBO aired some truly great documentaries and mini-series in the spring and summer, and a pretty good feature length film too (Recount). Generation Kill, particularly, and John Adams were pretty damn great. If you missed those you really missed some great TV.

With that said, the only thing that looks interesting airing on HBO this fall is the Chris Rock comedy special and Taxi to the Dark Side.

That's what I love about our Movie Network up here. We get both HBO and Showtime series, so one can compensate for the others. Still, it really seems like HBO is losing it's drama appeal. The only glimmer of light is indeed The Pacific and East Bound and Down, which was funnier than anything on HBO in a long while.

Is Cathouse coming back? I miss those hoes.

Somebody answer the man's question. This will determine whether or not I upgrade my cable.

Next week on Minnesota Vampires:

"Oh, yeah, we should really go to one of those Vampire conventions."

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea."

Cathouse: The Musical destroyed my love.
Never caught the musical. It worried me from day 1.
The Musical was the Spider-Man 3 of the show. Had its moments, but didn't gel. I'll watch the next in both series, no matter what.

Also, Isabella Soprano should take over the Mary Jane role.

It's already better than True Blood...

And with that fucking title I always keep wondering if Eliza Dushku will eventually pop out to slay some of the boring vampires.
No, no, no. Surfer vampires chasing the wave all over the world. Call it ENDLESS... fuck.
At least the accents would be a different kind of annoying on Minnesota Vampires.
So would the show be called FANGO?

...I'll leave now.

I resent that comment. Sometimes we switch it up to watch our stories on the tv box.

Fuck Minnesota. I want to watch Wisconsin Vampires, where it's a subtle look at obsessive vampire cults by way of Packers fans.
Now I'm almost sad that I didn't watch this. I've read that it gets better, but judging from the posts here, that's like saying well I've still got herpes, but at least it no longer burns when I piss.
Yeah, it's certainly possible it'll get at least a little better, but I definitely don't see it dragging itself all the way into "actually good" territory.

Really? I thought that io9 write up was ridiculous. The show sucked. There are no pros to the program that I could note. And PRAISING the sassy black friend? Ugh.
I didn't really see any praising of Tara, aside from saying this sucky Tara is better than the previous suckier Tara. Saying she's meaner isn't really high praise. And I thought the write up hit the cons really well, and did point out something interesting, the side stories mentioned in passing through the show. Shame that those things are going to be swept under the rug for rugged debonair square jawed Vampire Bill.
I can't believe so many of you watched it. It looked beyond dreadful in the advertising.
I didn't see an ad, but I was looking forward to it on premise alone. In spite of how bad it was I kind of liked it.

Eh, there was titty.

I did like the opening credits. The best I've seen for a TV show in a while. That was it. All else was lazily written and over acted to the point of offensive caricature.

HBO certainly knows how to make good credits.
Yeah that is true, I got a chuckle out of seeing the 'God Hates Fangs' sign in front of the church.

I've seen the second episode and for everyone who hated the first hour, save that hour for something you actually would rather do. It really doesn't offer anything new and has a predicatable ending.

The only thing I'm interested in is who the dog is.

Pretty much where I am, Dev. I just don't see how this episode was approved as a pilot. Isn't the point of a pilot not only to introduce characters, but then to introduce twists and/or compelling conflict that can last a season?

When the episode ended, what did we know that we didn't know that we didn't know in the first 10 minutes? Sookie can read minds, her friend is a ridiculous stereotype that only exists in TV, and her love interest is a solo brooding vampire.

Oh, did I forget the overarching murder mystery with a whopping two suspects thus far?
I have this sitting around but I still haven't watched it yet due to this thread. But quick question, do the vampires do anything? I mean ya know superhuman strength, read minds, turn into a fucking bat...........anything? Or is it one of those things where they are exactly like humans except they don't age and they drink blood?

They seem to be weak vs silver, they can look like the faggy Anne Rice vampires, their blood is like Viagra and have superspeed, which enable them to superfuck, as shown in the series.
From the second episode, they grow stronger the older they get, their blood is more than an aphrodisiac, the main brooding vampire isn't solo and the vamps probably have an overreaching plot to influence the Vampre Rights Amendment.
So, isn't it obvious that the bartender is the dog? That's why in his thoughts he's so focused. Which will bring up the idea that other mystical creatures are still in the closet, which is lame...
I enjoyed it. On one hand, I'm happy to see Alan Ball step outside his comfort zone and do something drastically different than SFU and American Beauty. On the other hand, maybe he doesn't have the...um...skillset to tackle a show like this. I never thought he'd use the DP of Prom Night and Nathan Barr, but sometimes Thomas Newman is too classy. It would have been cool to see him rework his Lost Boys stuff.

I liked Anna Paquin's character being in the center of all this crazy. I also liked the opening scene and opening credits a lot. As for the bad...the pacing was terrible, Tara was really hard to watch from her first frame, and I'm not sure, but I think Alan Ball wants her brother to be somewhat likable. He's fucking terrible. I'll give it another episode or two, but there's a strong chance this could evolve into an epic misfire.

And you saw the 2nd episode?

I'll try to endure this to see Alexander SkarsgÄrd's (Generation Kill's Brad Iceman Colbert) character, but even then it might not be enough.

Where does it say that the dog is mystical? And if so, they better show motherfucking werewolves. Literally.

The dog follows Sukey around, more than a normal dog, and Bill locks eyes on it everytime he sees it. The conversation about vamp shapeshifting occured around the time the dog was in a scane, so it's implied, though not stated, it's something other than it seems.

As far as the bartender being the dog, yeah, that's my guess but the dog painting in his office is a little obvious, though. I wasn't ready to believe they'd open the door for other mystical as they have yet handle the vampire population.

All of you should welcome the ratings, as it might put the show out of your misery.

The series premiere on Sunday attracted only 1.4 million viewers. To put that in perspective, the debut episode of another HBO series, John From Cincinnati, grabbed 3.4 million viewers.
John From Cincinnati's premiere followed the Sopranos finale, but yeah, pretty grim.
Love this show saw it last Sunday and I am highly excited about catching it every Sunday. Compared to the pompous crap that is on tv this is a much welcome addition. So tired of all these dumb comedy family shows with their little fake laugh boxes cackling at things that are not funny. Alan Ball had me cracking up with the dark humor super imposed within the confines of True Blood. Worth checking out. A good move on HBO but I'm still pissed at them for canning Deadwood and Carnivale.

This show is like you. Shit.

Wow. My first official fan. Why don't you go chew on a midget gooch buddy boy? This world is so filled with critics lately. Are you just upset because you can't afford HBO right now?
Apparently, blood ain't just the only thing that you suck.
WTF is midget gooch?
An Oompa-Loompa delicacy.
Ha Ha. It's the piece of skin between the testes and the porticulis. Everyones got one with a phallus. Girls have taints. As for Martin I am sure he is enjoying sucking and a chewing on those tasty man bits all the while percolating.

Now back to the subject at hand. Anna is hot in True Blood. I hope she does a few hundred nude scenes. She could rogue me anytime.
