Action Draft: Discussion - Page 3

Even though I probably prefer HARD BOILED, glad The Killer went first. Respect.
Indy was one of my top early picks, I think this draft is going to be interesting because I think I have a wider view of action then some. If there is running and shooting and dying..chances are it's action to me.

Bad Boys II being that high up the list surprises me.

Again that's like asking me to pick a favorite testicle, I'm very fond of both of them.

The Killer was my introduction to Woo, so I guess that counts for something. Then again, I'm not sure if anything beats the glorious finale of Hard Boiled.

Mea culpa. I figured it was a safe one to lampoon, but the point is well taken.

It's not a big thing, it is a rule I forgot to post.

That was my dilemma. Both these movies, or Die Hard. The finale of HB is THE best action finale I can remember, but overall The Killer is the better movie, and it led to Hard Boiled.

Still, the hospital scene and Tony Leung are strong arguments for the movie.

I've always like Hard Boiled more than The Killer. It's just pure balls out action with no apologies. Although, a different Woo film has always been my personal favorite.

I suppose if their is a gun to my head, or two guns to my head, I will say I prefer The Killer, if only because that's the one I revisit more often.
I like the story better in 'Hard Boiled'. While the story is certainly secondary to the action, it does tip the balance in favor of 'Hard Boiled' over 'The Killer' for me.
Slight edge to Hard Boiled. It's a little lighter in tone, and I love me some Tequila.

Tequila is perhaps the coolest cop to ever grace the screen.

Btw, fuck Erix.
I think that Tati is chomping at the bit, so to speak.

I think this is my fault. I should have put him in the next group, 1 to 3.
Tati isn't the only one eagerly waiting to go.

The Killer was my first exposure to Woo. That's a movie that really blew me away as being something completely fresh. It's why I still have some goodwill towards him.

I'm completely behind the Indy selection as well. Who says an action movie can't have a plot? Or characterization? Heck, I'm expecting Action-Comedies to be drafted as well.
Yup, I can see why Tati was foaming at the mouth to pick. Surprised Robocop took so long.
Missed it in the 80's draft. No way i was missing it here too.
Dammit Erix!

LAST BOY SCOUT was my reserve choice for Round 2, I didn't think it would go in Round 1 at all.
Good picks all around. For some reason, I thought that 'Robocop' might slip through the cracks, enabling me to nab it in a later round...

...hopes = dashed.

Out for Justice, wow, that's not the Seagal flick I pictured going first round.

I know it's full of campy goodness, what with the William Forsythe greatness and all, but this is a movie I just plain don't really like anymore.

Last Boy Scout, on the other hand, didn't care that much for it on its initial release, but have come to really like that picture these days.
Hi guys. (Fuck You II)

Sorry I was a bit late. By the way, as I write this, it is 12:55pm my time. So I guess I just made it.

Maybe Keith is right. I get off work at Noon. But if there's traffic, I may be late. Maybe I'd be better suited for the 1 to 3 group. I did mention early on that early afternoon was best for me. If anyone wants to switch, let me know. Otherwise, I'll just try really hard to make it here on time starting tomorrow.

By the way, nice picks from all. I can't really find fault with any of them.

Aren't we supposed to hold back with unbeatable juggernauts like Die Hard or The Killer until the later rounds?
I bet that isn't the ONLY Vernon Wells movie to go in the first round...
Last Boy Scout is a great pick.
FUCK! MISSED ROBOCOP AGAIN! I HATE MY LIFE!

Also, The Killer is the best CHUD first pick since Rosario Dawson in the last Babe Draft.
For me OUT FOR JUSTICE is everything that is great about Golden Era Seagal. Love it so, so much.

But like I said earlier, it's a risk because there's higher profile picks for later that I might miss out on because I didn't get them now.
Nice to see some love for Last Boy Scout. I think this movie is Willis most quotable and funny action movie. I am lovin´ it to pieces.
LAST BOY SCOUT is a truly legit first rounder, and I say that as someone who really despises Tony Scott these days. But he was a perfect fit for that one.

OFJ isn't my favorite Seagal flick, but I gotta say it has aged quite well. Just a real good down and dirty cop Vs. crazy crackhead flick.

Erix, don't sweat it, I'll move you up to the 1 to 3 slot.

New drafters, as you may have noticed these things can move along pretty quickly, so the timeslots aren't the word of god.

Not really. Drafting is all about picking stuff you love and/or deem necessary for the theme of the draft. I could not have forgiven me to not pick Die Hard and go for an obscure action movie in the first round.
What's your fave Molt? I can't remember if you ever said. Although if its something you're saving for a later round, feel free not to answer.

LAST BOY SCOUT never gets old.

I agree on both count. There's better Seagal out there, but it's a good one. Robocop is also a sure value.

Still, I would be disappointed to see a lack of A-lister movies being missing from the 1st round.

I still take issue with the way Danielle Harris saves the day in the woods in LBS. I've come to realize that it's all part of the joke, but I just plain don't like it. If the bad guys are that fucking dumb, then the heroes must be really fucking stupid to get caught by them in the first place.
Last Boy Scout was my next pick for sure. Thought I had a chance of seeing it tomorrow.
seagal going so early is surprising. Robo and road warrior are fine selections though
post #135 of 2703
Thanx Keith. So, that's my new timeslot. Great.

Boy Scout is an extremely underrated movie. It's Willis actually pulling off being funny. And I love Taylor Negron. Something so perfect about a menacing yet ambiguously gay villain in such a testosterone-charged action movie.

Cop: Is there a problem?
Negron: Yes officer, apparently there are too many bullets in this gun.

(BLAM!)

Never gets old.

Oh, and I agree wholeheartedly with Out for Justice. It's a quintessential Seagal film. The one where he tries to "act." It's awesome.
LBS is also the only movie Taylor Negron hasn't been face cancer in.

Can't say just yet, but OFJ is the one that I've learned to love more the older I get. When I first saw it as a teen I was put-off by the Brooklyn accent. Now I love it.

"I've noticed a lot of boxing memorabilia."

The way he says that with the accent is gold.

RE: LBS

For the longest time, couldn't get past the Monday Night Footbal cold opening. Just seemed dumb & rubbed me the wrong way. Shane Black's sense of humor was ahead of its time (at leat for me) Also, Damon Wayans was no Eddie.

Now, love the shit out of it.

Oh c'mon, he delivered the pizza just fine in that one film.

Boy Scout is pure Genius. Even Halle Berrry was hot.

God that whole OFJ bar scene is glorious.

Can't mention the boxing memoribilia without mentioning "...some boxing gloves ova heeyuh". The accent is the stuff of legend.

Ha!

Let me add some praise for The Road Warrior. Just fantastic pure action. The finale chase arguably tops Raiders for best set piece of the decade. And Mel was just badass.

Not true. I like his work with Savage Steve Holland and he was a liquor store clerk in one of my favorite people in another decade get high and drink a lot movies.
Elvis.

Friday night's a great time for footbaaaalllll....

I think it was a genius way of announcing, quite clearly: This is an obnoxious movie. It's for the guys to drink entire cases of Pabst, and laugh right along with it. Deal with it.

It's pretty genius if you ask me.

Yes Tati, Berry is at her best in this film. Good call on Robocop, by the way. Not only a great action movie - just a great film, period.

Seagal, er rather Gino Falleno, is such an asshole in OFJ. I love that he keeps going back to that bar and beating the shit out of people.

Also love his little speeches, "how much is the price of our blood?"
"He's gonna wanna talk to you hisself, SCUMBAG!"

I've watched that bar scene on youtube dozens of times, honestly.

If Gino's an asshole what does that make Richie? A bigger asshole?

I just love how he goes all Brando, when reminiscing about his childhood. Complete with the looking off to the side bit (which Brando would do to read his cue cards).

Jesus Steve! Actor's Studio much?
