Nothing is wrong with HARD TARGET.

I might have to switch sackley to another time. I forgot he's across the pond.

Keith: That being the case, can I email you my picks for Tuesday and Wednesday beforehand? If not, that's fine...just be warned that my picks won't come on those two days until WAAAY into the final grouping.

Ain't no pussy shit, running a draft, eh Keith?

I'll probably switch a few names around, like yours, so you can make your picks late on those days. That's not going to ruffle any feathers, I doubt.

I'm in the trenches. Kirby made it look easy.

Nice to see you feel the same way, Molt. HARD TARGET is my favourite Van Damme film. It's also one of the best action flicks in my opinion. I'll rate this against the Classics anyday.

The only problem I have with Hard Target is knowing that there's probably a better cut I still haven't seen. With a few minor tweaks, it could become so much better than it is.
Still weird for me to think of the Fresh Prince as an Action star, let alone a great one, but when all's said and done, he is this generation's Hero. We'll have to see if he becomes an all-timer.
Hard Target is great stuff. Woo's best American film without question, to my mind. I'm not a VD fan, but I really like that one. Lots and lots of fun to be had there. Henrikson's expiration is top five all time.

When all is said and done, Vosloo is the one who wins this movie for me.
I have a similar problem with both Tuesday and Wednesday, well more with Wednesday. I might be able to make it work though.
Here's a list of all the changes in the HARD TARGET Director's Cut, if anybody's interested.

And Harrison Ford? Man, he was the the action Hero we all wanted to be growing up!

I see Indy as a pure adventure film. Not in the same vein as action. Maybe other Jones films are more action oriented.

I understand that it probably deserves to be there. It's just my sentiment.
I defy you to come up with a better action set piece than the truck scene in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.
Probably true.

I think debating between action and adventure is kind of splitting hairs. I see the terms as fairly interchangeable.

I definitely didn't want to see a draft of all cop and kung fu movies. There's a lot to choose from. If we are going to question Raiders, might as well question T2, because that's science fiction at the end of the day. But that's the fun, the discussion.

I'm going to tweak the schedule a bit tomorrow, perhaps. I don't like these lulls, and I think it might have been my own doing.
Maybe you could PM the next group that they can post their picks now. Keep the ball rolling.
See where you're coming from. It's tricky, because I see Action as a pretty big tent. (Perhaps the biggest) A lot of sub-genres & styles fit under the flaps.
Really just in the last fifteen-twenty years-post-Schwarzenegger-that the Action genre has become identified with non-stop wham-bam roller coaster rides & more over-the-top silliness.

As much as the Indy flicks could be accused of that, I love the way Ford's performances kind of grounds them. There's an everyman quality to him especially in the first.

(I'm rambling...)
It's a fair point, if you want to differentiate Action and Adventure. After busting a big theme in the last draft, my only hope for this one is the best Pure Action draft I can make, with as little genre cross-pollination as possible. We'll see how it goes.

Not yet, going to give sackley the benefit of the doubt, considering he's in England. Erix, it's his first draft, and he explicitly said when he signed up that it would be noon to three.

Sorry, folks. I'll get it fixed.
Damn. I was really hoping to get Bad Boys 2 with my first pick. Now I have to target something even more ridiculous to defend.
Bad Boys 2 needs no defending.
I wonder if there's a prejudice against B-Action flicks (Seagal, Van Damme, Lundgen) when compared to A-Action flicks (Stallone, Arnold).
Maybe its different standards but a lot of times I kinda enjoy the good B-Action stuff more than major Blockbusters like Bad Boys 2.

I can't believe nobody made a "shit just got real" joke.

I'm disappointed in you (misguided) Bad Boys II fans.
I think you just have to accept that action is a big genre. What makes it cool is that it opens things up for more debate. Does a movie like Jurassic Park belong here? Maybe, maybe not, but I think that makes it a cool draft idea.

Oh, they will get their day in this draft. You can take that to the bank.

Well, a helicopter just flew over my head in slow motion. Hope that makes up for it.

The blood bank?

Please don't mention any movie titles that have not been drafted, even if the purpose is debate, even if the title is clearly not an action movie.

You can count on it. Some of my picks will definitely be of that ilk in later drafts.
For me what made me love about the Classic B-Action and DTV stuff from the 80's and early 90's is that there was no pretense to these flicks.

We watched these flicks to see shit get blown up and the underdog triumping against the bad guys. There's no extra subplots or lofty messages, just pure martial arts action all the way. You knew exactly what you were getting yourself into and loved every minute of it.

Just letting your head go and relax. Ah...bliss indeed.

Great movie.

sackley, this time slot work out alright for you?
Can't argue with Sackley's pick. If it had made it until tomorrow (yeah, right), it would have been my next pick.
Look at the Woo fly! (sideways, in slow motion, amidst doves)
Woot? Damn, looks like Woo is about to win this round single handedly.
Hard Boiled is another classic Woo. I still think I got the best, but that one is the other one I would have picked.
a flock of white doves just flew over my building in slow motion...coincidence?
Woo's getting some real love already.

I know I'll get shit for my first pick but bring it on!
Woo certainly deserves his place here.
It's a pity his later works can't compare to his HK glory days.
Like Hard Target...
Besides that.
And there goes Hard Boiled. The curse of picking late gets me again.

I still haven't decided if I'm going to pick seriously or just take B Movies that I like.

There's always 'Paycheck'...
Time slot is actually cool, but i'm home sick today, so I was sleeping and set an alarm. I'll check back more often tomorrow hopefully.

I actually wanted Die Hard first, as it is my fave action film ever. But I got it in the 80's draft, so I can't complain. I've always preferred Hard-Boiled to The Killer - I think because it reins in the ating histionics a bit and makes up for it with some of the most gratuitous action set-pieces ever put to film. Chow Yun-Fat's finest HK hour, and my first exposure to Tony Leung. Love this film. Contemplating doing an all HK/China draft, but we'll see.
It's an issue. I'm taking a risk with my first pick because there's "bigger" movies I've got lined up for later and they could easily get nabbed.

I hate to be a draft nazi, but please don't mention eligible titles, even if they're really, really shitty.
