NHL 2008-2009 season and the 3rd jerseys! - Page 4

Ovechkin is the best I've seen since Gretzky, and even then he would have smashed him on the side. He reminds me a lot of Maurice Richard.

And beside, yesterday was a Ovechkin/Malkin thing.

That was not a fucking goal in the Anaheim game. We was robbed!

Not that we didn't make mistakes....but still...

Canes actually tried to comeback and play last night. Thanks for the ref for disallowing a goal for "thinking" about blowing a whistle. what??

I am here to claim the Stars season is over. Marty must go. Disgust is the only word I have.

The same thing happenned to Joe Sakic against the Rangers. In the playoffs. In the Nordiques last season in Québec.

Reffing in the NHL is a joke. Fans would riot every week over such decisions in the NFL.

He's too expensive, nobody will take him. He'll go the way of the Gerber.
On Turco: I'd say a fresh start with another team could do him wonders.

On The 'Canes: ouch. I wanted Maurice to torch those douchebags. He deserved much better. Fucking Jason Blake Motherfucker.

Habs played quite possibly one of the most boring games I've seen in some time. Predator hockey must be awful to sit though on a nightly basis.
Nashville itself is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The team fits perfectly.
Brendan Shanahan back on the Devils. There's a certain poetry to that, especially if this is his final season. He's what? 39? Christ, has Crosby's balls even dropped yet? (Just for comparison on the age and everything).

I'd take a game against The Predators before The Panthers anytime.

Crosby's out for his 2nd straight All-Star game. I'm not sure why, the penguins won't even make the playoffs so why the need to rest up.

It's mid-season and the Penguins are 1 point away from 8th place. Crosby's doing the right thing.
So I've decided to call my team the Anaheim Fucks the rest of the season. Pathetic.
People shouldnt be allowed to vote on that best trick competition. Watching Ovechkin's asinine "trick" win was a new low for an All-Star weekend that is already pretty bad. Also, whoever was directing the young stars game needs to find a new line of work. Three different times we were stuck watching replays of things that werent goals or watching someone talk while a goal was scored. I know its not an important game but still if we cant see the best parts whats the point? At the very least do like every other hockey broadcast and put interview stuff into a box into the corner.

Take it easy. While Getzlaf had the best trick, Ovechkin did what is expected from such an event. ENTERTAIN. And he's the perfect ambassador for that. It was all theatrics, but it was fun.

And it wasn't asinine by the way.

From Merriam Webster.com
Main Entry: as·i·nine
Pronunciation: \ˈa-sə-ˌnīn\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin asininus, from asinus ass
Date: 15th century
1 : extremely or utterly foolish <an asinine excuse>

Obviously its a matter of opinion but I think its a fitting description of what he did. Certainly your right that the point of the competition is to entertain but as a break away skills competition you should expect to see...skills on display and not props. Someone as good as Ovechkin could probably have won it again anyway so I guess Im just annoyed that he chose to ham it up instead of do something as impressive as he did last year.
I don't need the definition of fucking asinine.I just don't think you're getting the point of the entire weekend. It's a publicity event. It's meant as a show, and it's as far as serious as you can get. Everyone I know had a laugh seeing him doing that, and that was enough I guess. I really doubt he'll do something similar next year.

Ovechkin won last year by doing something no one ever saw before. This year, everyone learned from that, and he won by going further. That's it. He knows he has to entertain, and he did it really well.

Nice to see the Homeboy win the MVP. Now the Canadiens need to trade him.

the game was entertaining if you like high scoring games.

Poor goalies.. how do you block against constant 3 on 1's?

Lecavalier! COME ON!
The Lecavalier trade is a pipe dream. If he was coming here, he'd have been shipped already.

Agreed. It was no different than Dwight Howards superman dunk.

Wanna know why it bugged? They asked for Komi or Markov. There's like 3 untouchables in the team. Both of these guys and Price. Can they work something out? Maybe. One thing is sure: the entire weekend was about charming Lecavalier.
You think it all depends on Vinny?
Not at all, but he has a lot to say. I think the whole thing was about showing there's other things going on beside the pressure of playing in Montreal.
No doubt Lecavalier is a very good player, but I believe he is overrated. He's certainly not at Malkin's, Crosby's, Ovechkin or even Datsyuk's level.

I'd like to have him but I don't want them to dismantle the team or give yp promising young guys. Especially considering that the cap will go down in a year or two.

What I really want is a cheap and decent fith or sixth defensman so Brisebois can go back to his friends in the press box.
I would push for a Bouwmeister trade before Lecavalier, but here's the thing: the Habs will be somewhat dismantled this summer. With number of re-signing they have to do, I doubt we'll keep them the same team. Like I said, Price, Markov and Komisarek are there to stay.

Now, for Koivu, Kovalev, Lang, Tanguay, I have no clue who stays and who goes. And let's keep in mind D'Agostini and Pacioretty, or McDonagh. A lot of emerging young guns, or ready to emerge.
I think the dismantling theory has been over-blown. Many players will want to resign stay with a competitive team. Especially Koivu why would he leave when the team is finally good?
The Habs are dead this year. If they amount to anything, I'll consider it a pleasant surprise. Losing Lang that way on Sunday was the fork. Fucking shame.
Why is everyone in Montreal going crazy when they hit a losing streak?
It's because as much as they've been winning this year, the large percentage of those wins are games we were outplayed, etc. Look at the game vs. L.A. for instance. If that game was in LA, and not MTL, Higgins gets called for that hold, and the Habs would have lost. The Kings were VERY right to be pissed the way they were.

Kovalev, as great a Harlem Globetrotter as they can get, can't seem to find his touch. And this lack of touch started last April. He looks disinterested, and it's showing in his play. I'm sick of waiting for him to turn it on.

As far as I'm concerned, the only two guys untouchable on this team are Markov and Price. Komisarek is gone, Kovalev is gone, I'd be blown away if they let Koivu go, but I've seen weirder shit in this league. Plekanec, the fucking barf bag he has become, is not the same guy from last year. If he was good strictly due to Kovalev's trickery last year, then he's worthless now. We shoulda mailed the farm to Tampa when we had the chance.

FFFFFFFFFFUCK
I still say the Stars are done. Yes, they are 4-0. Yes, they beat Detroit, but the refs certainly helped them do that.

The canes are still struggling for that 8th spot in the East. The have a 2 game win streak but need to win these upcoming 3 games on the road against Vancouver, the sharks and phoenix.

You pretty much validated what Savage said.

Tanguay will come back soon. Hopefully Kovalev gets the message that whining and dragging his feet will not get him the captaincy permanently. Hopefully Carbonneau will start playing Koivu with wingers who have more than 40 NHL games combined.

I'd be very surprised if the Habs didn't make the playoffs. I only hope they don't blow the future for a quick fix.

I like Bouiemister-- Do you think Florida will throw in the towel and get rid of him? They're playing solid hockey... I think they may hold on to him.

Fuckin' Recchi, eh? Still goin'. Unreal!

Florida is looking real good right now, I don't think they're gonna move him. I would guess he's in line for an extension any day now.

Just like Obama, we need CHANGE. It is getting horrible. They lost the game in 32 seconds.

I think Kovalev has become toxic. Like he has throughout is career.

Florida plays the Hurricanes on Thursday and both guys are battling for the 8th spot. The Hurricanes DESTROYED the Coyotes on Saturday, but we didn't have Brindamour slowing us down.

He might be back on Thursday and ruin our chances. Brindy was a great player, but he is DONE and needs to retire.
Anyone catch that Bruins Sharks game on versus last night? I was able to catch the 3rd period... right before the Sharks put the clamp down and scored 2 goals within like 2 min. Tim Thomas wasn't looking all that sharp in my opinion.
I turned it off when the Bruins were up 2-0 (I know it was the first period, but come on, the Bruins are pretty good this year, even against a force like Thornton). Turn on Sportscenter later and lo and behold, that was a whupping.
That's only one game. Tim Thomas was always good, but he was excessively inconsistent. He seems to have rectified that this season and he's a huge reason why the Bruins are so good this year.
True. And it's not like we can't expect that from the Sharks, being all good themselves, too.

Yeah, it's not as if they had their asses kicked by Toronto on a saturday night.
God DAMN they sucked hard last night. I have absolutely no idea where they go from here. I haven't seen a team implode like in this fashion. It's mind-boggling.

One thing is certain. Kovalev has got to go.
Wasn't I saying that for years? One thing that I also don't like is Carbo changing the lines daily. WTF?

And people who say Koivu should go are blind. Yesterday he played with 2 rookies, and still played not-too-baldy considering the circumstances.

I can rarely find CH fans like you, who agree with me about these things. People who complain Koivu isn't a first line center: guess what? How many first line centers play with two wingers who have less than half an NHL season's experience combined?

I wouldn't mind the line juggling so much if they weren't so ridiculous. Not one but two defensemen playing forward. Koivu with two rookies. Higgins (who's struggled since his return) playing centre, a position he hasn't played since college. Fuck Carbonneau.
Thing is: Carbo ain't a bad coach, but he's clearly panicking. We fired Julien, Daigneault and Therrien, who all had or have great runs, so I'm not for firing coaches, especially since it obvious the team needs a frontline star. There's enough young guys to build on or trade to get a guy like Lecavalier.

I heard bitching about Koivu's return; thing is, Kovalev seems to have a problem with him as a top dog, or it's something, but there's a huge problem in the locker.

And Koivu, while not a 1st line center, is a clear and solid choice for the 2nd.
agreed. I think we're all on the same page here. I'm going to start calling The Franchise 'Jim' Carey Price from now on. I've never seen a goalie meltdown as quick as this before.
