1. The Killer - John Woo (1989)
The ultimate Woo movie, and his finest so far. While lacking the insanity and pure carnage of Hard Boiled, The Killer trade parts of Hard Boiled's body count for a better story and performances.
2. The Rock - Michael Bay (1996)
It's still Michael Bay's best movie, and with such an ensemble of stars that it's tough to find flaws in this, it a movie that aged well and offers at every level a sensory overload that manage to impress. And it has Tony Todd. Come on!
3. The Blade aka Dao - Tsui Hark (1995)
A remake of the classic xxxxxxxx, The Blade is amazing by the fact that it shatters the traditional wuxia conventions and remakes it into a brutal, realistic and unheroic tale of vengeance.
4. Speed - Jan De Bont (1994)
This pure adrenaline thrill-ride is great, and relentless. If such a movie is good even with Keanu Reeve AND Sandra Bullock, you know you have the good stuff on your plate.
5. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin aka Master Killer aka Shao Lin san shi liu fang - Chia-Liang Liu (1978)
The ULTIMATE KUNG FU MOVIE EVER MADE. How's that for an argument?
Bonus:
Ninja III: The Domination (1984)
Golf course ninja action. Featuring the Ninja Master; Sho Kusugi.
The Hunted (1991) Not the one with Benicio. The one where Christophe Lambert is HUNTED by a ninja and has a modern-day samurai have to defend him. The train massacre alone warrant a place on the list, and the samurai is 116 feet of awesome. Has John Lone as the ninja leader and it's set in Japan.
