A well-written argument against McCain for those on the fence

I couldn't find another thread where this seems to fit, and in any event with all the facts linked throughout this strikes me as a pretty good article to share with those who may be on the fence...

Given that the majority on these forums are for Obama, you are pretty much preaching to the choir on this one.

No doubt, I'm posting links to it here and elsewhere because I think the format (with links to news articles from a variety of sources backing up most if not all of the author's arguments) makes it ideal for Chewers to forward to their parents, aunts, uncles, shop teachers, and unfortunate right-leaning friends.

These people rarely read anything longer than three paragraphs. Also, NY Times, bastion of "liberal media!!!"

Palin: "What does he actually seek to accomplish after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet?"

Yeah! That Obama trying to, uh, save our planet! Damn him!

Yeah that was the ignorant statement that really made me hate her. Fucking bitch.

My precious bodily fluids!

What are the Democrats going to do about those, huh?
Your Democrat has no regard for human life, not even his own. Now please make me a drink of distilled water and grain alcohol.

The American media keeps inventing demographics that people will hopefully relate to, and then one of the nominees can pander to this imaginary group of people, because those people actually think they are a "hockey mom" or, worse as I just read on Time.com, a "Wal-Mart mom". What the fuck is a Wal-Mart mom? How does one even identify themselves with a business so closely...?

The article goes on to quote sources describing this motley band of white mother folk, but it's vague enough to still make you wonder...all elections seem to be determined by the assholes predicting it. There's more enthusiasm for predicting who'll win than trying to find out who you should vote for...it's elementary, I know, but people keep falling for this shit. So this particular category of "Wal-Mart moms" (older white women without college educations, perhaps your secretary) will vote against their interests for Palin, because she's being sold as a 'real' American mother, instead of voting for somebody like a Democrat which is clearly more sensible when you're short on cash and have to shop at Wal-Mart all the goddamn time...but no, Americans don't want any help from their governments, except to plot invasions of other countries.

The Onion and Daily Show have covered this topic before, but damn, the media is in a terrible state of disrepair...but no, vote for Palin and McCain, they exist more realistically than Obama and Biden!

This election is just fucking sickening and I cannot turn away from it.

This is a response to Bush Sr.'s "grocery store scanner moment" of course, which highlighted to the population how out of touch their president was from their day to day lives.

I saw the "Wal-Mart mom" piece on another site and had a similar response. Is it partly some compelling, tribal need to belong? Most of my family live in small town North Carolina and I guran-damn-tee you in those towns they are, and will be for some time, eating this new identity up. Expect to see the logo on sweatshirts the next time you roll through a highway rest-stop.

Oh, I'm sure. Plus, it's a way to keep yourself convinced that even the place that you shop at is validated by a large number of people.

Yeah, but it's a way to back up your arguments against people who inexplicably support McCain. In that vein, a shitload of links...

John McCain says that he’s never voted for a pork barrel bill in his 26 years in the senate; an obvious lie that can be proven here: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/18/po...=1&oref=slogin

John McCain’s campaign tells the American public that there’s no opposition to his actions on behalf of campaign contributor Bud Paxson, and sends out two letters to the FCC about their vote. Both illegal and deceptive.

John McCain lies about Mitt Romney’s voting record on Iraq (this is a very slanted, conservative news site, I know, but it’s still verifiable by primary sources, like YouTube).

McCain lies about Obama’s alleged “media visit” to wounded troops in Germany (a lie that was then repeated by many major conservative news outlets, with no retraction yet printed).

McCain opposed MLK day as a holiday in Arizona, then lies about it.

McCain says that every time we cut taxes it raises revenue; an outright lie.

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/21/...nterest-money/
McCain says “I’m the only one the special interests don’t give any money to,” after getting 1.2 million from the telecom industry and 91,000 from Big Oil (Exxon, Chevron, but no small oil companies).

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...r_n_88304.html
McCain lies about an email from Jack Abramoff during the height of the scandal.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...-backtrac.html
McCain says he won’t raise Social Security taxes and criticizes Obama for doing so; then he says he’ll raise Social Security taxes.

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/17/...ng-moratorium/
McCain says that he won’t bow to special interest groups by opening offshore drilling, then opens offshore drilling.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...-in-colom.html

McCain claims that he never said Iraq would be easy, but he’s on tape saying Iraq would be easy.

And last of all: http://brighthall.aol.com/2008/07/31...s-he-wont-lie/
McCain lies about lying.

On to the racism! So, in 2000, McCain said “I hate the gooks, I will hate them as long as I live.” I will grant you that if anyone has a reason to hate based on race, this man has it in spades. The question is, is this kind of racism what we want in a president? Just because it’s source is in his torture, it does not mean that it will be any less harmful while he’s the president. If this is the man who is going to shape our policy with regards to North Korea, I most certainly do not want him to be racist. If you’d like more information on how racial slurs by the president can hurt the American public, you can look here: http://eyeteeth.blogspot.com/2008/0...nt-matters.html

In addition to his lies and racism, his policy stances are incongruous, harmful, and often contradict themselves;

Could you post the source of your quote as most of those links don't work, probably because of the copy & paste.

Yeah, sorry about that. Here's the forum page I got this off http://forums.somethingawful.com/sho...&pagenumber=51. It's in the middle of the page. I'm also going to try to go through and fix those links.

Judging from the rare times I step foot into Walmart, you speak of a shapeless beast that dredges itself out of the mire of a trailer park each full moon to feast on cheap foreign products.

Palin's view of "average" people is disturbing. "Hockey moms" (hockey? might as well say "Cricket moms" in the US) and "Joe Six-packs"?!? So, a woman's role is to produce and take of the children, while the man... descends into alcoholism? I have no curse words strong enough for this "woman".
