New Netflix Problems - Page 3

In my 18 months with Netflix, only 7 out of the 150 plus DVD's sent my way were released in the same year that I rented it. The last thing I care about is the availability of just-released movies.

I mainly use Netflix to watch movies that otherwise has no access on television or in theaters. Yeah, saw Hurt Locker already. Sucks about the feeding-frenzy.

Well I always get new releases when I want them. I just make sure that when I want a new release I send the movie back on saturday morning. It gets there by monday and then they have always sent whatever new release is coming out on tuesday that I want. I guess they can do it legally because the movie won't technically reach my home until tuesday. Just gotta get that timing right. But I do have something like 150 old movies waiting too so if I fuck up and end up waiting it's not a big deal.

I do the same thing. Ship Saturday, they send me the new release Monday.

I found out that Watch Instantly isn't available to secondary profiles that you may set up for children. I find this odd. I cannot find a reasoning for it on the site.

Tried this. It worked. Thanks!

Is anyone else having an improbable level of difficulty getting Kurt Russell's MIRACLE on DVD from netflix?

I've been trying for like a week and it's still VERY LONG WAIT

I've never seen that happen before outside of like, when IRON MAN came out on DVD or something

Beats me. It can't be because of timing, that's for sure. I mean, who's even thinking about Olympic hockey this time of year?

I just would have thought they'd have had enough copies to handle demand. I'd have assumed that not many people knew about that movie. Anyway, I'm disappointed that it's out

I found my case for that movie (I have alot of Russell films because he is from Springfield MA) but only disk two was in it. I'm annoyed at myself

I've waited for the North By Northwest BluRay since the DAY it was released. It's status has not changed from VERY LONG WAIT since then.

Yeah, and it's not like it was just the 30 year anniversary of it or anything.

Yeah, that sort of thing would be reserved for something like the 30th anniversary of the film's subject matter, as well. Oh, wait...

And, thus, I was beaten to the punch. Well done, nachos, well done.

That happened to me with SONS OF ANARCHY. I waited for like 3-4 months before I got it, and only got it a week after I finally called up to complain and ask what was going on

Here's a new one on me: Netflix has "replaced" the two disks of Red Cliff International Edition in my Saved section with the single disk Theatrical Edition.

I have the idea that this is not an improvement.

Netflix has Where the Wild Things Are listed as being released on March 23, 2010 despite the fact that it's on sale, y'know, today.
It's the deal they made with WB to give the titles 3-4 weeks to sell in return for discounted prices and greater access to catalog selections for streaming. Redbox did the same thing even though they're more reliant on new releases than Netflix is. Same thing happened with The Informant!

NETFLIX is really doing it's best to agrivate me with this decision. I pay for the 5 at a time plan (something I can barely afford), and now they do this to me.
With all the stuff available to stream, why anyone would do the five-at-a-time is a fucking mystery to me. I don't just mean Kate, I know normal people who do it, too.
I suppose if you live in the middle of Bumfuck, Oklahoma, where the turnaround on non-instant view movies is kind of a pain, that 5 at a time thing might be a matter of convenience.

Because I've been stranded at my Dad's house alone since last May, and all he has is 56k. I can't stream or play on XBL and it sucks

I don't understand this complaint. You waited months and months to see the film, what's another three weeks?
It also helps to order films that have been out for some time. I think out of the hundred of movies in my queue, not even a quarter are from the last decade. That way there's very little availabilty issues (except, when you go too obscure).

I waited for months and months, and now it's out. I was counting the days, and now it's on DVD. But the DVD rental service I pay for decided to stab me in the back and do a back room deal with a studio, and now I can't watch it unless I buy the DVD

And I'm poor, so I can't do that.

So I'm sitting waiting for three weeks while everyone else can see the movie and enjoy it and talk about it.

You don't see why that would bother me? It feels like not getting invited to a party or something, and knowing that all your friends will be there.

So, the USPS is probably going to nix Saturday delivery. The only people who really care about this (from a quick Twitter sample) appear to be heavy Netflix users. Would this rock anyone's world in here?

Not at all. I've barely been averaging one disk every 8-9 days as it is.

That would ruin my day.... God damn it. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up before noon on Thursday just to make it to a mail box so I can get new stuff for Saturday

USPS, you're failing us here. Actually, no, the government is. I'd be more than happy to have some FBI agents and swat teams break into rich peoples homes and steal (or, rather, use eminent domain and take legally! ) their stuff in order to finance Saturday mail. That's my answer for just about any under financed but needed program, actually. And we should televise it!
I've had Moon at the top of my queue for over a month now. I just want to see it on Blu Ray!
Will they have their public mailboxes open for pickup on Saturdays? I usually wait to mail my discs back until Saturdays so I always get new releases sent out the following Monday.

I believe it's just Saturday delivery they'll cut. They'd probably collect from drop boxes (for security reasons, if nothing else.)
I hope they do I need my new releases, it's a big reason why I dropped Blockbuster. Funny they just sent me an email saying that they didn't have my slected title in stock at the local warehouse and they they would send it from one farther away. And the name if that DVD was........Demonic Toys 2. Im oh so classy.
Ok, I just ran into a NETFLIX problem that's hella bizarre, IMHO

Dr Zhavago. A classic David Lean film, and one that's been on DVD for a number of years. I decided I was going to add it to my queue and hopefully have it in time for the weekend. Imagine my surprise/shock/horror to discover that not only does NETFLIX not carry it on DVD, it lists the Dr Zhivago release date as "unknown"

This issue is terribly vexing to me, and I'm not sure what to do

I first thought "Maybe they're in the process of replacing all their Zhivago DvDs with a newer edition?" But then I realized that frequently the films I get from NETFLIX are crappy old non anamorphic releases despite the fact that better more recent releases of those same titles are indeed available in stores

This is almost the worst NETFLIX problem I've had since I discovered they were not going to carry the director's cut of THE NEW WORLD

PS I still don't have MIRACLE on DvD and it still says "VERY LONG WAIT"..... arg

PPS And like two weeks ago I put 3 disks in one sleeve and NETFLIX still lists one of the disks as not having been returned despite the fact that the other two disks that shared that sleeve are marked as returned. All the disks have barcodes on them now, how could that possibly happen?
So anyway.

Some may have issues with New Releases and unavailability, but my issue is the apparent 'phasing out' of the Friends feature.

While I believe a smaller portion of the Netflix subscribers use the thing(yet every time I click on a random member, they will always have at least one friend or review), the claim of 2% is baffling. Even so, as one responder pointed out, 2% of all their members would still account for a lot, and I'd wager they'd be the more fanatical than your average Netflix user.

But Netflix has pissed them off, as you can see by the comments. I'm upset about it as well - I really liked seeing what my fellow Chewers were watching, and the majority of the time I'm browsing films, I'll almost always check and see 'How My Friends Rated'. Now every time I browse, I keep clicking on the movies and forgetting those ratings are now gone.

Anybody else think this is yet another bad move on the corporation's part?

Yeah, I just saw something about that as well, on Forbes. Oh well. It's kind of annoying but when one does it the others were sure to follow I suppose. It's the nature of the changing beast.

The silent removal of the Friends list was stupid of Netflix. Now, I gotta hunt for the Friends link and go at it all retarded to recommend films.

Are you keeping it in one spot on your list? I recently figured out why several movies at the top of my list would be a 'very long wait' for weeks or months.

I keep a very long list. 300 or so titles. I would browse through my list for movies I wanted to watch sooner rather than later, find a movie at position #183 that I wanted to watch this weekend, and then I would press 'move to the top' and then move that movie to number 3 or so.

The problem was that every single time I did that, the waitlisted movie at the top of my queue was moved to THE BACK OF WAITLIST. I ended up waiting two months to see Public Enemies before figuring this out. It was not worth it.

Also, I don't know how they could have missed it, but it does say on the website instructions to stuff no more than 2 discs into 1 paper slip when returning.
Fuck first WB and now these 2. Oh well surely they will reduce fees to make it worth it right? LOL yeah I know.
Alright, I'm a pretty damn patient and all... but fucking HELL, how long is The Prisoner (original series) Disc 1 going to be on "long wait?!!!?!!!"

Good christ, it's been forever and it hasn't made any progress. What pisses me off the worst is, apparently, any of the other discs could be sent to me now. It's just Disc 1 that has been held up for months and months now.

Eh, I've had Paranormal Activity at the top of my queue since the week before it was released on DVD. Still waitin'.

Well, maybe there's hope for us both, because after a few weeks of it on "short wait," I got Paranormal Activity. I promptly shipped it back too.

Huge stupidity experiment there.

This doesn't upset me that much anymore as I notice the articles focus quite a bit on Netflix wringing a much wider Watch Instantly selection in exchange for the delay. Mayhaps Netflix understands the paradigm is already moving towards on demand vs. physical media?

I'm all for being able to stream more. I have left my Queue in the dust the past month since I got my Wii disc. Now if they would introduce pricing to allow Watch Instantly for New Releases or a pay as you go feature....
Yeah, with the 1 DVD out at a time feature I'm averaging 1 DVD a week, and if it wasn't for their fabulous Instant selection, I'd already be cancelling my membership.

Last night I was watching Altered States on Instant, and midway through it just disconncted from the Internet. I needed to restart my PS3 and all was fine. My Internet was fine, so I was just wondering if anyone else with a PS3 had this problem happen to them?

Clearly, you should have shipped it directly to me.

We should develop some twisted Netflix/Craigslist/Ebay hybrid where people can bid to have someone send them a "long wait" item directly rather than going back through the normal process.

I was totally thinking that a new Chewer Exchange thread was about to pop-up.
