All the sketches were like that. In the cold opening, they might as well have been doing voice-over work for all the interaction they had.

I always thought Franco was a pretty good actor but last night, his performance was right on par with Michael Phelps.

Probably the first episode in a long time where NOTHING was funny, not even the digital short.
I thought Bill Hader's sarcastic political voice guy in the opening was funny, as was the Looker, and the Simpson jury sketch.

The Of Mice and Men sketch reminded me of the John Malkovich-Chris Farley one, where Farley accidentally breaks Victoria Jackson's neck, or maybe it was Jan Hooks', and Lorne Micheals comes in and tells him to think of getting his own spin-off movie, and shoots him in the back of the head.

It's probably the same writers getting nostalgic about their past work.
The Willem Dafoe thing was only 50% shit, because Hader can sell almost anything, and I liked the way it ended. The rest of the show was one of the worst they've done in years. Just terrible.
Martin Scorcese/Rosie Perez was moderately amusing and nothing else.
And the show hits a new low. The McCain skit was moderately funny and everything else was beyond shitty.
Franco was funny. Show started off well. (Compared to what it's been of late), then tanked fast. Really tired of the smarmy self-congratulation on Weekend Update. (You have to earn that) The inability to take a sketch in the right direction or finish strong continues. Case in point, the digital short/ small penis skit. (Let's not even mention the echo of a famous classic) The Willem DaFoe sketch was ruined by unfunny attempt at absurdest humor. For that to work, we have to know you're actually smart.

Had a thought while watching: Wonder how this plays to the generation of SCARY MOVIE/ DATE MOVIE etc. Is this show for them?

I don't know what's more depressing; the fact that SNL may be completely dead or the fact that there might be a generation of Scary Movie/Date Movie fans.
How do you make James Franco unfunny as a stoner when he just killed in a movie playing a stoner? Good work, SNL.

SNL has got some great people in its cast. Bill Hader, Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler are immensely talented and it's a shame to see the show waste that talent week after week.

And in a world with "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", "Weekend Update" is just sad.

But I'm basically just repeating what we all know: SNL is a show that, on a good week, will have five minutes of good material in a 90-minute show.

Enjoyed KOL. Ignored the rest.

I <3 DVR.

No kidding. The DVR is the only reason I'm still watching any portions of this show anymore.
The best you can get from this show now is a good idea, they never take anything the right direction. It seem like laziness overall, the writers half-ass it, then expect the cast so make it funny.
Two iffy weeks, two lame hosts...

what this fucker needs is...

The open was funny enough. The rest was utter crap. Who on earth thinks "The Cougar Show" is a good idea.
That NY Times sketch was so obviously Jim Downey. It's depressing to realize he's not funny anymore and he's also a crazy clueless conservative douche.

I laughed out loud at one joke, head injury Franco freaking out when he thinks he's OJ Simpson, "that crazy murderer!"
I'd take him being a crazy clueless conservative douche if he was still funny. Sad to see him write such an aimless, empty sketch. This guy used to be a god!

How sad is it that the Cougar sketch is a highlight.

It was funny when Cameron Diaz showed up for that Cougars cameo appearance and no one clapped or nothing when she appeared. It was just kind of "What's Cameron Diaz doing here?"

Cameron Diaz must. She keeps coming back. I watched the first couple of skits, then just kind of got busy doing other things. I liked the O.J. thing. Not becuase it was funny, but because it was so true. Why was Amy Poehler so damn tan? Like, fake tan. Looked odd as hell.

I've really grown to hate Cameron Diaz.
Awful, awful, awful. We're looking at a repeat of the Charles Rocket years. The new girl (well, last year's new girl) is less funny than Good Burger. And that's saying something.
New girl could be good, the writing just won't let us see that. Goodburger is awful, this is a fact.

If half the show was made up of this and the Falconer...we'd be talking about late 80's levels of goodness.
Tina Fey is some sort of remarkable being. The line about getting back UN jobs from the 'foreigners' absolutely destroyed me.
This sketch wasn't as tight as two weeks ago but it still delivered the goods.

Honestly, never cared for The Falconer. Found the humor a bit too Adult Swim-esque really.
A funnier opening would have been to have Fey just say exactly what Palin said and have the crawl note that fact.

"We're not making this up... Governor Palin wrote this portion of the sketch."

It came pretty close at times. I'm pretty sure the first part of her response about her foreign policy experience was almost word-for-word from the Couric interview.
The closest they got to a verbatim repetition was in her answer to the bailout question. Her Russia next to Alaska answer was actually funnier than anything SNL could have written.
What was with the debate sketch? A good parody should have some resemblance to what actually happened. But having Obama talk about Chicago politics but not taxing bribes and such seemed so out of place. Did they have to make stuff up with Obama to balance out what a dick Mccain was?

GoodBurger was actually in a sketch I liked in the boat. Anna Farris did all the heavy lifting but he didn't ruin it. Shoulda killed her at the end though.
"I'd like to use my lifeline." Awesome.

Rest of the show: ugh. "Deep House Dish" has got to be the least-loved recurring sketch in the history of SNL.

However, I want to do some filthy, filthy things with Duffy.
Any laughs procured from Kenan Thompson last night were purely accidental.

And please, agreed: Kill Deep House Dish.

Jim Downey strikes again.
They made up stuff about Obama because it's hard to make fun of someone WHO'S SO OBVIOUSLY RIGHT FOR THE PRESIDENCY.*

*Paid for by Scarlett Johansson.
God help me, I chuckled a little bit at the Kenan Thompson sketch with the used wedding dresses.

And what's with Hader, Samberg and Sudekis? Are they on vacation? With those three barely showing up on air and Poehler's impending exit (she looks like she's about to pop), I guess we can all just prepare ourselves for a LOT of Deep House Dish.

Anne Hathaway next week. Get ready for some cutting-edge Devil Wears Prada jokes!
I watched this in about twenty minutes, I don't think I missed anything. Thanks DVR!

she did spend McCain's last birthday(or 2 years ago) with him and her convict boyfriend. I wonder if they will have the balls to go there. I'm sure most people watching SNL didn't see the pic of him boarding the boat but it could be worth a sketch. I'm sure the'll go with Deep House Dish instead.

Fixed.

Queen Latifa is suppose to play the debate moderator so we should get Fey winking up a storm.
I've already had a crush on Tina Fey, but with her playing Sarah Palin makes her even better.
Maverick!
That was great.
Tina nailed it so good. "Pronouncin' the G at the end of the word you're sayin'"
Episode is alright so far. Better than the last couple of shows.
Nothing special, but it feels like SNL tonight.

Was actually laughing during the debate & C-SPAN sketches.
Anne Hathaway is hot enough to keep me interested after update

Who played Biden in the debate sketch? Sudiekis?

This Mary Poppins skit is pretty cute.
