Wipeout HD

Holy shit. Sept 25th?!

Cheaper than originally priced too - the UK store's officially saying £11.99/12.99 (depending where you read) and the US store - $20?!

Trophies, full online play and 5 game modes are apparently bundled into this PSN title - so i'd make sure you're topped up for this month on PSN credit (especially since that PAIN download is worth having too).

It's too bad that it's only 8 tracks right? I'll still be grabbing it if only for some online play. But I still think the best Wipeout games are on the PSP at the moment.

I think they're remakes of the original's tracks, yeah - I think we'll see further tracks in the wonderous form of DLC sometime.

That price is better than expected. Far better.

They're remakes of Pulse's and Pure's tracks, with more coming as DLC later in the year.

Then SOLD.

Glad it's coming out soon. I'm a sucker for Wipeout. Much as I like the PSP version, I don't like playing quick-reflex games with handhelds. And I'm getting old, so need my large-print TV to help me see where I'm going.

1080p. 60fps. Full 5.1 support, custom soundtracks.

Yum.

I only got a few minutes with it last night, but I can say with certainty that this is the slickest looking game I've ever seen. It's amazing. When you get epilepsy warnings as emphatic as the ones with this game, you know you're in for a treat.

Apparently there's a bug that breaks the online mode if you have over 50 friends or something, just in case anyone's encountered this.

Fix is either to wait for the patch - play offline, or delete some friends. Woo.

Smoothest online play I've had too. Races were easy to find, started up quick, and were glitch-free. I also like that the community is practically mute. This is probably the best exclusive game I've played on the PS3.

This game is a blast. I suck at it (been playing the psp versions for too long) but holy shit is this totally worth 20 bucks. Online is pretty fucking smooth as well.

Stupid question, is there splitscreen at all? It's not a dealbreaker, but it's worth knowing if I can destroy opponents when they come to visit.
No splitscreen. Visitors will have to be destroyed by conventional means.

Correction: There is splitscreen after all. Visitors can be destroyed in your manner of choosing.

This is a bonus.
Two player splitscreen or four? I hay have to convince my friend to pick this up.
2-player.
Holy shit, I love this game. Hands down the best thing I've played on the PS3.
Anybody tried to play this with the motion controls turned on? It's good for quick laugh.
Really, really digging this game.

Someone race me!
It's hard as fuck, too. I always seem to have problems with the mountain track.
I've discovered that this game is even more fun if you've just finished watching Speed Racer.

Oh, and I've just had the amazing idea for using the custom soundtrack feature to listen to the Speed Racer soundtrack...oh my.

I finally unlocked all the tracks. The track in the clouds makes for some very cool wallpaper photos.

Getting enough points to open up the fifth event grid was a bit of a pain. The last three time trials I passed were literally within a tenth of a second to failure. The window between getting gold and being told to fuck off is small.
Yeah, I'm struggling to open the fifth grid right now. I'm having to rewire my brain to even bronze some of the tracks, and this is still in Novice.
I feel your guys pain. I'll sit there and do the time trials over and over and over again, hitting all the speed pads and doing driving literally as good as I can and I just never get better.

And the races against the cpu, even on novice can be brutal.

Anyone interested in some CHUD racing this week or next?
I'd be game.
Anyone download Fury? I let this game languish, but the new stuff has me considering a return.
I downloaded it, but I have yet to truly play around with it. The new tracks are nice; the difficulty level, of course, insane. I suck massively at any skill level other than Novice. There's a deathmatch mode where you can reverse direction quickly to kill cars behind you with missiles.

There are a massive amount of cars to unlock for each team. When I went to the Piranha screen alone, I assumed the unlockable cars for just that team on the screen were all the cars you could unlock in the entire game. Each team has that many. (20, maybe?)

The Fury download has completely renewed my interest in this game (too bad Fat Princess had to come along today and distract me).

For those who like combat, the Eliminator mode is a great way to mix things up. For the first time, I found myself choosing ships with shield over speed. Whether you're at the front or back of the pack, no place is safe (like bendrix said, you can reverse direction). And it goes on for a while, not ending until someone achieves the target score.

Got the Fury download over the weekend, and I'm loving this game all over again. Of course, the game is still very accomodating right now. If it's anything like the original download, the first couple events will be a breeze, then they'll start throwing trials at me where taking one turn a wee bit wide will result in crushing failure.
