Awesome. Great to see Shea Wigham in anything.

Haven't heard of this until now, but it sounds promising enough, and I love that picture. Thanks for putting this on my radar.

There's a review for this up at Dread Central that say it's stellar. Apparently the director's next film is The Grudge III for Ghost House, so let's hope his creative drive isn't killed on that project.

It's always great to hear a film has been made completely void of CGI.

Interesting. I'll have to see if this gets a theatrical over here.

Like Hocken said, Assault on Union 76. Definitely going in my "See this" pile in spite of that shit trailer.

Is it worth 9.99 to watch it on HD On Demand?

Hooray for HDNet Movies! I'll be watching this for Halloween at home!

Toby Wilkins seems to have a weird 'Tim Curry' thing going on...
Or is that just me?

A little disappointing. Scratch that...VERY disappointing.

It's not that it's a bad film but that it really isn't anything special. It's kind of a cool setup, but they never go balls out with the gore, and the creature isn't that interesting either. It has more in common with The Licker- that shitty creature from Resident Evil- than it does the creature from The Thing. And could the camera work be any worse? I'm not even a huge fan of The Ruins, but that is far and away a superior film, which I mention because they have quite a bit in common.

It's a good film if you're not expecting anything I guess. Just my opinion.

It's been a good week for horror at the Mattioli household as I had the opportunity to watch The Burrowers and Splinter. I thought Splinter was fantastic. It takes a relatively tired premise (parasite/alien takes over person and attempts to spread its disease) and runs like a mofo with it. The creature design was really something special, in my humble opinion. And the fact that it was practical effects (there's a great extra on the DVD where they show an Oklahoma University gymnast practicing the creature's movements) makes it even better. For whatever reason, I found the quivering spikes--well, splinters, I guess--to be pretty disturbing. And they did a hell of a job of ratcheting up the tension throughout. Moreover, they accomplished it without making the characters complete idiots as so many horror films do. I highly recommend this (as well as The Burrowers to a lesser extent).

Yea, it wasn't a bad way to spend 90 minutes, but it wasn't great. The tough-chick stuff and silly camping setup didn't work very well for me. Neither did the whole lower-my-body-temp scene.

I watched this pretty much back to back with The Children. That flick was AWFUL.

I'd give it a solid B. The creature work makes it worth watching. The performances were decent, with the criminal guy being the standout. I didn't buy most of the character moments, especially at the end when the criminal reveals himself to have a heart of gold and suddenly they're all willing to die for one another. There's stuff I could nitpick but overall it was entertaining, worth a rental.
