Action Draft: Forgotten Heroes

Talk about SNIPER here.
Nice title!

Finally no more pussy-footing around movies.

The ones I had on my list that I didn't pick and as far as I know didn't get picked by anyone:

ABOVE THE LAW, COBRA, THE FRENCH CONNECTION.

I was sorely tempted to pick ABOVE THE LAW at some point but I wanted some variety between the stars of my picks.

Bullitt, To Live and Die in L.A.

I really wanted room for Silent Rage, I Come in Peace (Dark Angel)...
COBRA!
Blind Fury
Escape from Absolom
Hellboy 2
The incredible Hulk
Backdraft
'Bullit'
'No Escape'
'To Live and Die in L.A.'
'The French Connection'
'Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry'
'The Stuntman'
'Shoot to Kill'
'Braveheart'
'The Octagon'
'Kid with the Golden Arm' (think of 'Five Deadly Venoms'...same actors, different plot)
'Akira'
Tati: Is 'Escape from Absolom' an alternate title to 'No Escape'?
No one picked AKIRA? Wasn't that the anime everyone was 'discussing' after GHOST IN THE SHELL?
Very hard to go through this whole draft without grabbing a Lundgren. Figured at the very least someone would claim ROCKY IV. Guess that'll wait until the sports musical draft.

Allow me to pour some out for some of his others that didn't get an invite to the dance:

I COME IN PEACE (so hard to pass it up today)
ARMY OF ONE
THE RUSSIAN SPECIALIST
MEN OF WAR

So many more from his resume, but I digress.

Shocked nobody went classy and took HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. In kinda wish I had.

So much Walter Hill selected, and deservedly so, but what about LAST MAN STANDING? Really the last film I enjoyed from him. Not that there has been much since (yeah, I saw that Duvall mini-series).

Oh, and SURVIVING THE GAME.

I thought of drafting the original Dawn of the Dead at some point.

Automatic with Olivier Gruner, sort of cyberpunk meets Die Hard.

Agreeing with Above the Law being overlooked, almost picked that one, too, gets better with age.

Speaking of Andy Davis, Code of Silence is a Chuck Norris movie I like as well.

Agree with Moltisanti about Last Man Standing, it's extremely overlooked with regards to Hill. Yeah, not much else from the man, except Undisputed.

Speaking of Rutger Hauer, Wanted: Dead or Alive could have been picked.
I knew there'd be one movie mentioned in here that'd make me slap my forehead because I totally forgot about it.

LAST MAN STANDING is that movie.

Chow Yun Fat's THE CORRUPTOR is a flick that doesn't get enough love.
So right about THE CORRUPTOR.

UNDISPUTED is one that I wish I liked. Has a good set-up but Hill dropped the ball with the final fight. One of the few times I can recall when the DTV sequel to a film is better than the original.

Glad none of the MISSION IMPOSSIBLES went. Thank you all for that.
I was thinking of putting in Nemesis, as well as Where Eagles Dare during my bonus picks in the draft.

Not a big fan of Undisputed, either.

Reservoir Dogs could have made a place here.
No love for BROKEN ARROW?

I thought that flick had its fans.

I still like it. Maybe not enough to draft it.

Wanna buy the original one sheet?
I would have been all for BROKEN ARROW getting a nod. Don't get all the hate.

The non-drafted Lambert flicks I dig are FORTRESS and GUNMEN.
What was the essential Kurt Russell flick people were talking about?
Stuff I almost Picked -

Collateral
The Untouchables
Black Belt Jones
Payback
Out of Sight
Dead Presidents
The Quick and the Dead
Wild Zero
Death Race 2000
Bullit
Versus
Dead or Alive (Miike)
High Plains Drifter
I ALMOST picked a double feature of 'Gone in 60 Seconds', original and remake, for my bonus round.
The remake? Why?

I nearly picked PAYBACK but figured I'd be beaten to death by a legion of POINT BLANK fans.
I was thinking about a Beat Takeshi double bill for the bonus round of Sonatine and Brother.

Also, North by Northwest is a classic action film.

Duel(!).

The Game could have sparked an interesting discussion.

All kinds of martial arts goodness - Police Story 2, Armour of God 1 & 2, Way of the Dragon, Fist of Fury, Flashpoint, Iron Monkey, Ong Bak, Unleashed, Kiss of the Dragon... These are all very valid picks for me.
I wanted to take Dead or Alive just as a protest for not getting any of the Woo films I wanted. If I can't get Woo, I'll take Miike making fun of Woo.

TOMBSTONE is the big one I assume everyone was thinking of. BREAKDOWN would have been a solid selection as well. EXECUTIVE DECISION, while not great, might have been worth taking for the historical value.

No Jack Ryan flicks taken. That's a stunner. On the same note would have figured AIR FORCE ONE to be chosen.

Oh yeah. Forgot. I was also looking at Brother and Armour of God. I love Brother. That's another vastly underrated film.

The remake isn't great by any means (as a movie, it borderline sucks), but the big car chase at the end is pretty well done.
I always had BREAKDOWN....down as a solid thriller.

I should have taken AIR FORCE ONE. Would have fitted my '90s' draft and compensated for missing out on CON AIR.

No Jack Ryan flicks going was a big shocker.

The Challenge, that would have been a good pick.

Wow, I didn't even think about Collateral, but I did consider Miami Vice.

I know people arent' too big on it anymore, but Beverly Hills Cop is essential, to me anyway.

After The Departed, was wondering if anybody would make a ploy for TAXI DRIVER.

Did La Femme Nikita get picked?

Yeah, I thought for sure Hunt for Red October would go.
'The Challenge' was one that I was considering, as well as 'The Yakuza'. Good, solid flicks.

Scarface wouldn't have been out of place, either.

Also, Walken:

Dogs of War
McBain
Crimson Tide should have gone too. Shit, the entire submarine genre went ignored.

It's borderline. Certainly starts out more of a mystery but it piles on enough vehicular mayhem and a classic bad guy death that it would have fit just fine in this draft.
Speaking of submarines, I'm surprised that someone didn't make the case for 'Das Boot'.
Speaking of boats in general, did any of the POTC movies go?
I was surprised Captain Blood didn't go. I was expecting it to get drafted when the old classics started getting picked.

Narc, while more of a drama, is always a solid pick.

Lone Wolf McQuade

Lady Reporter, aka Blonde Fury (Shi jie da shai) is essential Cynthia Rothrock, and a kick ass movie really.

Not sure if I'm happy or sad that nobody picked Thriller: A Cruel Picture.

EDIT: Nobody grabbed ACTION JACKSON? I know there's a lot of love for that one out there.

REVENGE, the Kevin Costner/Tony Scott movie, I almost took that.

SHAFT
SUPERFLY

DEATH WARRANT
'Blind Fury', with Rutger Hauer, would have been a fun choice. I saw that with very low expectations and loved it. It's a LOT better than it should be.
Captain Blood and Pirates of the Caribbean 1 were options that I left. Also considered Braveheart and The Untouchables, and even Branagh's Henry V, but that would be a bullshit cheat.
Kind of sad the only thing "blaxploitation" drafted was New Jack City.

Thought Rath would take North By Northwest

Russell Executive Decision

Eko Rollerball

And Molt Sniper or Harley Davidson
Holy Shit...'Rollerball' (original) would have been an AWESOME choice.

End of Days deserves a mention.
Any flick that has Arnold shooting Satan with a grenade launcher is fine by me.
I left my list at work, but one that immediately springs to mind is PASSENGER 57. Can't believe that wasn't picked.
Oh yeah, the Lambert I was talking about was GUNMEN.
Just saw Nabors mention DEATHRACE 2000. Woulda been a killer pick.

Classic Chuck I debated on LONEWOLF MCQUADE & BREAKER BREAKER

(The uber-cool RETURN OF THE DRAGON shoulda gone. Bruce Lee destroys Norris)

Surprised nobody took Blue Thunder. I don't care for it, but I know it has a following.

Also, TRAINING DAY. Has this fallen in estimation?

Of those two I prefer HARLEY. No joke, I really think SNIPER is the goods and has a ton of atmosphere going for it. The action in HARLEY isn't mind-blowing but it's such a funky buddy film that I'll always champion it among those who will listen (also includes Chelsea Field!).

My favorite Van Damme's that remain are DOUBLE IMPACT, WAKE OF DEATH, SUDDEN DEATH, and TIMECOP. While I do enjoy BLOODSPORT, LIONHEART is my top pick out of his fighting tournament films.

Did anyone else have DARKMAN in mind? I was thinking about going with it but just couldn't find a spot for it.

I was hoping DEEP COVER would go. If I wasn't so keen on taking a 70's gangster flick in DILLINGER then I would have grabbed it. Love that movie. Favorite Goldblum performance.

I thought of Darkman, but I didn't want to draft it.

Deep Cover also crossed my mind, but I haven't seen it in so long.

Speaking of Van Damme, thought somebody might take Double Team.

Fair Game, with Cindy Crawford and William Baldwin, that's a first rounder right there. We all dropped the ball.
